Good let me pay him a visit and leave a comment that he is a blog post thief.
I bet he won't approve my comment
Does anybody here use COPYSCAPE?
copyscape.com and does anyone know if it's effective? -
-
At least he gave you credit for it... (There's a link under the post) but that doesn't mean it's okay. Just that the thief might be willing to negotiate.
-
maybe you need a disclaimer, saying that under no circumstances do you give permission for people to use your posts

Some time ago I happened on a site that was feeding directly from one of our blogs. It even had its categories set up to match ours. There was nothing on the blog at all except our posts. I wrote a long post on our blog about how the site was stealing all of it's content from us, with links back to our site, and they didn't catch it--it went live on their site.
In the end, though, that was more fun than productive. The real answer is just to contact their host. They'll take the site down. -

Well .. at least two things seem evident
1) You added the PLEASE NOTE. THIS ARTICLE IS COPYRIGHT OF TONY HOGAN AND IS NOT TO BE USED BY OTHER SITES WITHOUT PERMISSION after you originally posted your article.
2) he is using a wordpres plugin to put this link http: // guitarlessonsondvdinfo . com / go / learningtoplay / ... everytime there is the word "guitar" on his page .. which is a click bank / affiliate link to this site : http: // www . jamoramaacoustic . com / ?hop=gtrplr
>> maybe also pass along an email to jamorama acoustic site and let them know what their affiliate "gtrplr" is doing.-
yeah, i know what you mean by trying to contact jamorama...but I doubt that they can do anything really. It's a clickbank product and anyone can get links from clickbank without having to join an affiliate program from the merchant's website. Try contacting clickbank if you wish...but I'm not sure if they'd do anything about it.

It's a bit of a storm in a tea cup, he only has had 28 visitors maximum for his posts. He's borrowed from a few sites, I've emailed them. one called ifingers.co.uk i can't get an email address and can't comment, but the guy has stolen a great article from him.
maybe i could aggregate the bc discussion board -
I would think that this would add to your credibility and reputation as a blogger
Technically the money that others earn off of your posts is not money that you would see anyway. But those aggregate posters can ultimately drive more people to your site. Aggregation distributes the content that you post to far more people than you can reach. The key is to set up a signature along with your blog address to each post allowing the aggregator to direct traffic back to you!
I would say take advantage of any opportunity to gain readership directly or indirectly. Find a way to turn it in your favor... there will always be theif's and copycat's but the real trick is getting them to work for you!-
Thanks. It's no advantage really, when you click on the source it points to the WHOLE post on his site. The only favour I want is the guy not to aggregate content from 2 of my sites, have my friends that I built a real estate site removed (which has nothing to do with any of my sites). And never to hear from the guy again.
As a general rule I look for a positive outcome, but this is just garbage, the guy has built a site from my hard work, he has ebay, clickbank, jamorama, work from other bloggers that I know and like. This is just a bullshit marketers site. It has no value, and I am not interested in the traffic from him. He's actually getting google rank from my site, about.com and a few others. I need him like an a out of time stoned drummer that turns up late and swears at the singer.

@acouticguitarist
Okay so here's the scene. This guy gets paid by the click and you have posted the url in the OP. I wonder how many members have already clicked the link in the OP and how many will continue to do so as these threads are not locked and can be resurrected. I'm thinking that the death of this thread might be a good idea. What are you thinking? -
Actually, acousticguitarist, your bringing this situation up could be helpful for other bloggers in discussing what they should do to protect their content from being used by others. Although I agree in principle with jasonthebaldguy that this might gain you some more exposure, the problem is that the only way anyone would recognize that it's your work is if they bother to click the source and by then, they've already read the article.
Anyways, should bloggers add a copyright notice on their blogs? Perhaps a Creative Commons image tag? I had thought of doing that when I started blogging, but then I thought that might look a little presumptuous. What do other bloggers think? -

Also I just noticed that acousticguitarist posted two threads on the same topic .... I don't know why he posted two threads but I do know that the other thread is here www.blogcatalog.com/discuss/entry/crap-hes-stolen-my-whole-site -
Thanks, timethief, those are some helpful and interesting links. I now have some interesting reading to do over the weekend.
@acousticguitar - yeah, I can understand that only too well. I had some visual work of mine swiped from me and being used by someone else. When I tried to point out that this was an original work to the person who did it, I got a whole ton of attitude and that typical remark that anything post on the net is up for grabs. Fortunately, on the site in question, I was able to get the site admins to take it down, but I have seen him using it elsewhere. After a point, I just let it go since it wasn't worth wasting my time on and now, any graphical/visual work I do I always put a credit tag on to protect my work.
And now it seems I should seriously consider doing the same for my written work as well. In any case, think of it this way, acousticguitar, some good is coming out from this mess as you're helping your fellow bloggers learn how to protect their work. So, thanks.

Glad to hear it, acousticguitar. For what it's worth, I too have decided to add Copyscape protection to my blog - just in case - as well as adding myfreecopyright registration (thanks to timethief for drawing my attention to that service - much appreciated).
In any case, it sure must be nice to start the weekend with this hassle out of the way.

All this says now is "coming soon" so maybe his blog was deleted? Anyways, I have several people stealing mine. Sometimes they link back to my blog at the end, sometimes they credit someone I don't know and others just use the post and credit no one. It's amazing. I have no idea how to stop them. I think the ones that are nice enough to give a link back to me are ok. But the ones who credit someone else really bug me. One of the blogs I've only had less than a month and around 5 posts have been heisted. I guess it's sort of a compliment, but I hate it. Any suggestions as to how to stop it?

When you study music for almost 40 years, play with world class musicians, study with one of the worlds top jazz guitar players, study with one of the worlds top sarod players, spend hundreds of hours teaching, hundreds of hours developing tutorials, hundreds of hours researching music and writing content, spend ten years working on web jtechnology and some f***wit decides to use your work, if that's not stealing what is?
oh and i left out all the performance, recording and guitar building plus develop the worlds best acoustic guitar blogs
