I just found out from a friend that my blog looks different depending on the browser that is is being viewed with. It looks perfect in FireFox, and looks like crap in Explorer. Does anyone else experience something similar? I think these guys are doing some of us injustice here

I noticed some differences a while ago and think I have fixed all the major eyesores, but it is a pain in the arse.

I know! I thought I had dealt with all the glitches etc, now I feel like I have a month of work on my hands. I honestly feel I might as well just leave it be

What I can say is as always, firefox, chrome is likely to give you the best in design and performance of the web page. Also safari & opera seems to be the world most 'neat' browser. However, IE is the only browser in the world that follow the real standard html code when displaying your web/ also safer & slow.

Getting your site to look the same across all browsers is probably the most frustrating thing about building a website. Most people still use Internet Explorer so it's a pretty big deal if your site does not work for IE.

Getting my site to look the same on Firefox and Internet Explorer (7) was such a hassle that, for the next redesign, I'll place a "use Firefox" notice on the main page instead of pleasing those who refuse to make the switch.

That's why web designers charge so much, to make sure sites work on all browsers.

Yup, it does suck. My blog looks real crappy in older version of internet explorer. Its incredible that microsoft still has a dominating portion of the browser market. IMHO firefox is a much better product.

You can check Browser compatibility at Browershots - slow but good!

    Link: browsershots.org/

and/or download Firefox, Opera 10, Google Chrome & Safari for example to see what your site looks like.

Bloggerstop has just put a great article about this issue:

    Hope this helps!

Firefox has an extension that will allow you to view your site in a variety of browser by selecting them from a dropdown menu.

@softwaregal - IE is the LEAST compliant browser compared to the other majors. It is just that so many people use it.

I had no browser issues with my blog, but I did have some with my MySpace page. I designed it in FF and it looked fine, but with IE however, it's horrible, there are HTML codes all over the place that don't appear when viewed in FF.

I spent ages trying to fix it, to no avail, so I gave up.

Yeah, it's the bane of a web designer's existence. I know because my husband is a computer guy & built both of my websites. We had to check what they looked like in IE, Firefox, and Chrome before we could say they were "done."

LOL welcome to the world of web design. It's really not funny.. but I have to laugh about it or I just get frustrated.. Anyone still using IE6 or below should really not be using a computer IMO...

    Good Luck!

      Helpful tips..
      Completely block ie6: css-tricks.com/ie-6-blocker-script/

Using the above tip, make a custom ie6 splash page! www.thedonutproject.com/2009/05/22/overly-judgemental-ie6-splash-pages/
