Tom Cruise vs Robert Duvall???

Finally the first round comes to an end. We end with two very different type of actors. Duvall has played many supporting roles really. When he did star in a film, he got great acclaim from critics but poor box office results. On the other hand Tom Cruise has had many $100 million dollar films yet got very few positive feedback from critics. Maybe his celebrity hurts him in that people see “Tom Cruise” rather than the characters he is trying to play. This match up could be seen as teacher vs student (Days of Thunder). I go Robert Duvall all the way. He was brilliant as the non-Italian in the Godfather movies. I saw him in another film where he and James Earl Jones were half brothers. While I hated the film "Gods and Generals" - he was such a better Robert E. Lee than Martin Sheen was.

Robert Duvall. Great in things like "Secondhand Lions." And, hey, he was Boo Radley in "To Kill a Mockingbird."

Tom Cruise pretty much plays the same character in every movie.
