Many magazines have shut down or have gone online-only in the past few years. Do you think more will do so, because of tough economic times? Which types of publications do you think fare better as online-only publications?

(btw, I recently wrote a piece about this on my blog)

Yeah, the Los Angeles Times filed for bankruptcy too.

Good question. My reply is somewhat unrelated. As a kid we found boxes of old magazines pre-Depression era in the attic of one of the houses we lived in. I still have them... and many of the titles disappeared once the stock market crashed... others kept going. The more practical the magazine, the wider the audience, the more likely it was to survive. The more luxury the audience, the less likely to survive.

However, I sense that the opposite may be true today. Magazines are a luxury, and niche magazines have gained popularity that might not be affected by the economy. I might be wrong on this. Perhaps the more niche zines will end up online or disappear altogether.
