What do you do for traffic?
I participate in the discussions here and write kick-arse blog posts.
What is the main source for your blog traffic so far?
BC, Twitter, and Google.-
Hi Suzie,
I'm glad you asked that question, because I would truly love to learn how to generate as much traffic as i possibly can. I'm relatively brand new to blogging, but so far I've had some traffic via google, but most through word of mouth. The only downside to the latter, is that they are reluctant to sign on as followers. Some are fearful that its not free and they'll get locked into something. But I'll keep on posting and being patient.

Most of my traffic comes from networking in "real life" (I actually have little busines cards with my header art and blog URL which I give to interested people I meet at biz conferences, etc.)
I get traffic through Facebook but usually they just comment on my FB wall vs. on the blog (and most don't follow for some reason.)
Also a lot from communities like this one, Blogger, SITS, various mom blogger clubs, etc..
I get a comparitively small % of search engine traffic but the vast majority of that is through Google. -
Write the best blogs you possibly can. Quality, not quanity. My main sources of traffic are Blogger, Blog Catalog, Facebook, Twitter, Stumble Upon, Digg it, and She Writes. I add my link to wherever I can. This is only my second month at blogging, and I will say increasing traffic is a part-time job...I try to work on it a little every day....I would say be patient!

I whole heartedly agree that quality over quantity, is the right road to travel. I write based on topics I'm passionate about. Since I'm new to all of this, I need a liitle help. I downloaded the recent viewers/my neighborhood widget from blogcatalog onto my blog. The widget is there but, did I also need to copy and paste the provided link, in order for the widget to function?

Traffic in and of itself is good for the blogger ego, but the real question is what do you want from this traffic?
If you want readers, write good posts with good headlines and submit them to article sites like Ezines with links back to your blog.
If you want to sell something, pound the keywords for whatever your trying to sell and try to make the post relative to something hot in the news.
If you just want hits, make friends on Twitter, Digg, Stumble Upon, Blog Catalog, My Blog Log, Reddit, FARK, and so on and so forth-then Digg, Re-Tweet, Stumble, etc, etc, etc all of your friends items and ask them to do the same for yours. You won't have any time to actually blog, but it can be a fun way to get some traffic.
Just having a banner farm may seem like a good idea, but it's an idea that everyone who has ever signed with Commission Junction has had. You need real content to get return visitors. -
anyway the source of traffic to my blog is discussion boards like blogcatalog i will just tell this alone ....best thing to do just visit my blog and get the other ways clean without protocol..free

I am surprised that nobody mentioned www.linkreferral.com/adwel.pl?oldrefid=246510 So far it is the best way for my blogs traffic. I highly recommend it for your blogs/websites.

I signed up for Twitter, stumble, dailyme, digg and I have facebook of course. I read some of the advice on problogger.com as well. My traffic is slowly increasing..but my god it's slow. I guess it takes a while, a lot of search engines pick me up but I wish it was better. I have return visitors which is nice...my blog is about Autism...the positive side of it but not many know about me yet. I guess you ust keep trying.

I just started back up again after a LONG break. Right now, I use facebook to direct traffic. I need to find more time to dedicate again

Ask your friends and family to encourage their friends to tell friends, so that over time you may expand your reach. My blog supports an upcoming collection, in print, of humorous essays, so my publisher encourages its customers to visit my blog--often by retweeting my update announcements on Twitter. I think I've attracted an increased flow of traffic by being active in various ways...from Facebook, to Twitter, to this forum. If you're seen, and you have things to say, people tend to be more curious about you. It's frustratingly slow at times, but it pays off over time.
