Technical difficulties and slow service I understand, especially when it is offered free of charge. Rude handling of complaints on the other hand is not something I care to subject myself to, especially not the kind of response I've seen you and others receive here in this forum. I would expect anyone running a service to be able to refute a complaint with some sense of decorum. At least that's my take on the situation.

Please do not take my incident as being the Norm. I simply dropped the bomb from utter frustration. It was disappointing to say the least that a site would be hacked so easily, which in turn created the situation that provoked my ire.

It is possible, that BZ may still hold some form of positiveness for the 2300+ users they report it as having. And I'm sure they probably have room for a couple more. I'm just not one of them anymore.

So please don't refrain from trying them out due to my one incident.

Several users who have commented here have talked about this copy paste issue coming up before, which probably makes all the difference in the world. I don't use the site, and didn't have any idea what the issue might be--I had nothing to go on except the badly worded email.

The email itself came as a surprise to me because I don't think I've ever used BZ. I did go back and find some Shoutbox spam advertising it and so suspect that maybe I went over and signed up when I got that and then never went back and forgot all about it--although I'm not even sure about that, because I tried to delete my account after getting the email and it seemed that I already didn't have one.

I suspect that the email looked very different, both in terms of having any idea what it was talking about and in terms of understanding why the author felt the need to make the point if you were an actual user of BZ. As someone whose initial reaction was "why am I getting this email?" and then went to some trouble to try to work out what it meant, only to discover that I didn't even seem to have an account, it was a bit perplexing even before Vic started calling us names over here.

Yes, I am a Vic supporter. Yes, his language and grammar are pretty rough around the edges. Yes, he is opinionated. Yes, he gets himself in trouble! Still, I am sure you can see that I am able to read and write. The very existence of others that write with poor grammar and cuss words doesn't insult me to the core of my being, or 'put me off my game'.

You know, some simple looking around at BZ in the first couple weeks it started up and I saw the 350 characters and the 'no copy paste' thing. I was guilty of the copy/paste, so I quit doing it. The email later on was completely understandable to me when I got it. Yeah, I guess if I was a paying customer of BZ I would have read it a little different. Of course, its free so I figured they can run it however they want to. By this time I 'knew' Vic, so I just smiled as I deleted it. Maybe I've got pretty thick skin, but it wouldn't occur to me to take it as a personal attack.
As far as BZ goes, I really like it. It only crashed on me the one time, when it was hacked. All my articles got 7 + zooms, probably because I read a lot of articles and zoom them if I like them. I get some traffic from BZ, but the best is all the friends I've made over there. It's too bad your experiences weren't as positive as mine, but I always look for positive and almost always see it. There are some pretty good blogs submitting over there and I may have never found them without it.
My mom taught me "It takes two to tango." Vic might have been out of line and insulting or worse to you, but you guys like to tango, don't you?

Some of you might think of BZ as a business, but if you look closely, you'll see that it isn't monetized at all. I would classify it as merely a service until it is.

When we finally restarted the email server an hour ago I received tons of notifications from Blog Catalog form friends added to messages. So the entire ugly thing was because someone didn't take the time to read the rules when signing up or the multiple reminders that you need to write 350 original characters when submitting.

It isn't hard.

Vic of course didn't make it any easier but I don't blame him for being defensive when the original post was a rant, written by someone who was wrong, and seemed hell bent on spreading the WRONG information.

Life doesn't have to be so hard....yet some of you make it that way.

And it seemed to have finally worked, and even required over a day at that to receive a response.

In the end, my problem has been resolved. And that's all I wanted.

And like I said in my opening message, I hope BZ continues to work out for the 2300+ bloggers who use it. After all it took to get my desired result, I bear no ill will.

I've submitted quite a few posts to BZ and have never had any gripes about the system. To write 350 characters over four short sentences briefly describing the topic of my post is no great hardship as I can see the benefit of the additional promotion.

I can also see the negative side of simply copying and pasting a portion of the post to cover the description. I get very cross when I see scrapers (content thieves) copying the first paragraph or so (sometimes the whole) of my articles and posting them in their spam-blogs, so why would I deliberately do the same thing to myself in BZ or any other SN site?

All this arguing is a negative drain on everyone's valuable time.

To my way of thinking, if there is a TV program I don't like, I change channels and watch something else. I wouldn't sit there watching it just getting angrier and angrier!

Same applies to BZ. If you don't like to write the 350 character summary, then don't submit it to BZ and get angry about it, submit it to Digg and get on with enjoying your blogging!

Almost every post on my video site gets submitted. The reason for this is that not only does this post on BZ get me an extra entry in the search engines, but I can make the BZ a KEYWORD laden submission, specificly targeting my keyword or words. Where as my origianl article may be written for my readers, my BZ submission is packed (not to a spammy level) with keywords.

At first I was concerned when I was being outranked by BZ for my own keywords, but then I started to watch my numbers on my other submissions. I was getting more pageviews, more unique visitors.

So following Vic's suggestions, I started to highly target my keywords. By this time I was heavily into my funny video site and just started to submit my articles as well. Not only was my articles getting visits from BZ, but they were clicking my adsense. I still get visitors (unique ones) from older submissions.

Because I'm using BZ to get more search engine traffic, I could care less if my submissions get little to no votes, but they do get some votes. But, I do support those BZ users who have voted for me, or added me to their friends list. Every two or three days, I check out their recent submissions; if I like them, I vote, if not, I go to the next one.

My advice, if you want to use blogging zoom or try it out, follow the submission rules. Heck, check out the blog (it was down due to hacking a few days ago) for suggestions on how to get your keywords into the submission. If you don't like it, fine, don't use it. It is not only a free service, but that's the great thing about the Internet: if you don't like it, don't use it.

As for Vic, he's an aquired taste. If you don't like how he says something, then you'd REALLY better not check out his personal site at blogger unleased DOT com. I do have him beat in one reguard, I'm probably the worst native english speller in history ;)
