Discussions

I'm putting this on general discussions bc everybody should see this!

The Iranian gov't is shutting down sources of communication to the people and putting the opponent to ajhmedinajad on house arrest and banning anykind of election protest!

They are also banning journalist from filming! The gov't officials are too old to know what Twitter is. I wonder how fast the internet is gonna get shut down?

I wonder if obama is gonna help those people? Here's his chance to be a real hero!

Whatcha ya wanna bet he plays politics???!!!

I know I didn't spell homeboy's name right,so let us get that out of the way and focus on what this thread is meant for m'k.
  2. HollytheHousewife
Nobody has an opinion about this?
  3. SweetViolet
I think Obama has much more important fish to fry at home. What's he going to do? Invade??

Let's let the Iranians run their own country and let's hope Obama has enough resources...and that includes time...to run his.
  4. HollytheHousewife
Sv these people are shouting from there rooftops. I will admit iraq maybe shouldn't have ever happened. I think houssain had done his dirtiest stuff in the 80's and early 90's. USA should've dealt with them then.

This dude is outright saying I want to wipe a nation off the map,and he is nuts enough to do it. This is fixing to happen!

These people are trying with all their might to stand up to tyranny and we all know what is fixing to happen to these people.
We know this is gonna be swept under the rug and it's not fair
  5. HollytheHousewife
U say obama has bigger fish to fry but he's over in gay parie' wooing mrs. Obama right now!

    Can't u see what's. Going on.
  6. Rozie818
They are expecting to march in protest in about an hour the news just said. They are having a hard time using their communications out there, but people are finding a way.
Big boss will look into suspected cheating though and his word is final, unless of course there is a revolt.
  7. HollytheHousewife
They are trying so hard,my heart feels so sad for them
  8. HollytheHousewife
I know rosie people are tweeting over there. Wouldn't be awesome if people went over to twitter and helped them get their voice heard
  9. HollytheHousewife
I can't fig why more people don't have an poinion on this? It's still early tho

America is not the policeman of the world.

If Iranians are unhappy with the decisions of those who govern them, they have the option of replacing the government.

IT IS NONE OF OUR BUSINESS and right now, America needs very much to mind its own business to pull it out of the hole Bush & Co. dug it into.

As far as Obama and the Mrs in Paris...I don't expect the man to work 24/7 and my guess is he and his wife have had very little "together" time in the last couple of years. I don't begrudge them a romantic interlude...better than separate beds and bedrooms because his job destroyed their marriage. Give the man...and his wife...a break.

His primary business, however, is AMERICA...and I'd say with the mess he inherited, his plate is pretty full.

Let the Iranians sort out their own mess...they created it, let them sort it out.
  11. HollytheHousewife
    @sv
Well the problem is,iranians don't have the choice to put who they want in office.
I feel ya on he has a lot on his plate, but we all do. U are right he can go woo his wife, but like you said there is a mess over here, and if I'm loosing sleep over my hubby being laid off again, just like my aunt who hasn't been able to sell a house in a year, just like 7 of my cousins who were laid off @ fed ex,just like 4 of my cousins and one brother who got laid off pulling fiber optics @ pts,and the one uncle who was laid off @ nkc (engineer).

We all are loosing sleep and there is no light @ the end of the tunnel......we can't go to france, hell a lot of them can't go to see a movie right now, much less the eiffle tower
    1. SweetViolet
Actually, they DO have a choice. You are too young to remember Iran and its last government, but I'm not. The Iranian people overthrew their king and put the Ayatollah Khomeini in charge.

If they can overthrow the king (who was backed by the US!) and his army, they can change their government again. But maybe...just maybe...they don't want to.

It is NONE OF AMERICA'S BUSINESS and the last thing America needs right now is to stick its nose into the business of yet another sovereign nation and spread its military...and money...even thinner.
    2. HollytheHousewife
Yes,but I have read about it. If there is someone shutting down the press, cutting off communications, then something shady is going on
  12. HollytheHousewife
M'k got way off the subject there. I just about jacked my own thread, shhhh don't tell tt I don't want her to get on to me about me.........

Are y'all watchin' the news today, isn't it awesome to see the people out to protest! My heart goes out to them,bc I sure pray they don't get silenced in a horrible way!
    1. HollytheHousewife
Oh wow! 2 that link do
  13. F4wrdthnkndad
I hope they twitter day and night. And when the Iranian gov't shuts it down, hopefully another site will appear. Sadly, I fear many will be killed or seriously injured so they can continue business as usual.
  14. HollytheHousewife
Me 2!!!!! I'm scared for them to!
    1. shraqshaq77
I'm feelin' sad to you guys too. Why is it always like this? When someone "YOU" dislike "WON" something, there will be a lot of rumors saying this is wrong, that is wrong, everything is all wrong.

It's a normal thing in any election. They will be 2 side (WIN & LOST. The people of Iran already made their decision, plus most of the news I've read came from nowhere (outside Iran).(most of it are drawn to bias)
    2. HollytheHousewife
Ok it isn't a rumor that the president of iran says,"I want to blow Isreal off the map"! If your crazy enough to say it,you're crazy enough 2 do it!

It isn't a rumor that gunmen just opened fire on a crowd of over 100,000,the pix don't lie!
  15. timethief
IMO this Iranian election has nothing whatsoever to do with President Obama.

Considering the threat Iran is, it certainly is our business.

Holly, I think you're right to be concerned.
  17. HollytheHousewife
We are not silenced by gunfire if we protest! It just plain ain't right! Imagine being @ a gay march and all the sudden gov't opens fire on u! We have the right to speak out, they don't!

Just like the congo, darfur, and yes dare I say n. Korea! They are all silenced by violence! Imagine u holding your kid on your shoulers @ a 4th of july parade and the gov't decides we can't celebrate that holliday anymore, and decides to just silence u by pulling out an ak47!
You can't fathom it bc u haven't lived through it! Just imagine what kind of gut wrenching give u a heart attack kind of fear!!!!

um Holly this does happen in this country from time to time

I agree that it is not the United States place to "stick their nose in it." However, I think it is important for all Americans to show their support for Iranians in their struggles. Even if that just means voicing that support on the internet.

    That said. . .

If any Iranian should happen by this. . .

I wish you and your country the best possible outcome in this situation; That it quickly be resolved for the good of your people and without further loss of life. My thoughts and heart are with you.

The difference between Darfur and Congo and Iran are many.

There are many very educated people in Iran, and they are the ones being oppressed, and most of them do not like us very much, they will figure it out. In Darfur and Congo the people are poverty stricken, uneducated and oppressed and women are raped as an act of war, we use resources from Darfur (information resources from Sudan, and natural resources in Congo) so we do need to stop the use while allowing abuse, but we have no leverage to help them because we need what their governments give us.

    Iran - not so much.

Oppressed yes but educated and sometimes even well lcuk..my gggg grandmother was a a Persian orphan so I do wish them luck.

Successful revolution usually only comes from within, I hope Iran one day becomes open, my father was in Tehran prior to the revolution and he said it was awesome at that time. However Iran is full of some very smart people, many of them dislike us - even those protesting their own government. Journalists are banned in a lot of place where people are much worse of than in Iran, and I hope to heck we do not attempt to interfere.

I wish them well "viva Iran".
    1. HollytheHousewife
Cooper what do u think happens to women in iran? The women who get raped, are not only shuned, but sometimes murdered for defaming the family name.

The culture between iran and the congo are different, but both are opressed by gov't and I believe a civil war is about to happen in iran to and it has nothing to do with being impoverished.
    2. cooper
Of course, one of my first blogger friends is from Iran, though she lives in SF now via Spain. I work with Iranians, more so in my first job. Iran is complicated and I wish them well really I do, this may just be the beginning but Moussavi was approved, he what..backed the last bloody revolution? These people are not necessarily protesting the Islamic government they just want to change it up a bit.
I suggest reading some Shirin Ebadi, I posted some links to her on my site last week when I posted about this whole twitter Iran thing.

hi..this is a good innovation..the internet. and now..the boundaries are gone through this communication channel!

You might be interested in this from Wronging Rights and interview done with a NY lawyer who had spoken with relatives in Iran. The part about the rally signs being in English not Farsi makes a very good point.

    Cyberwar guide for Iran elections
The purpose of this guide is to help you participate constructively in the Iranian election protests through Twitter.
    ...
    2. Hashtags, the only two legitimate hashtags being used by bloggers in Iran are #iranelection and #gr88, other hashtag ideas run the risk of diluting the conversation.

I don't think The United States is responsible to solve every problem on earth, but it's a privilege to help other countries that only the US can afford right now.
  24. HollytheHousewife
The gov't of the U.S. isn't doing anything for the Iranians, but the whole world is showing their support of the PEOPLE of Iran by via twitter.

Everyone has changed their avatars to green, and using the #iranelection hashtag.
I have even stopped promoting my cause for a minute and just tweeting for iran.
I think it makes a huge difference knowing that the outside world is backing them up.
  25. HollytheHousewife
I have made some awesome friends from iran and they keep telling me thank u thank u thank u! I tell them they are the BRAVE ones. They are the ones staring down the barrels of ak47s ! That is what I call courage!!!!

I'm begging all of y'all to open a twitter account just while this is going on. Show our Iranian counterparts we support them, even if you just tweet a couple of times a day,it makes all the difference to them, and it really isn't asking too much
  26. HollytheHousewife
Oh yea,if u do go tweet, change ur avatar 2 green, and use the #iranelection hashtag
  27. flamingpoodle
You have to post your tweets backwards, otherwise the Iranians won't be able to read them.
  28. HollytheHousewife
??? What do u mean post backwards
  29. flamingpoodle
Everyone who is losing sleep over the situation in Iran should read a bit wider than say, CNN.

Wikipedia, although it is not always a reliable source, has this:

Iran has regular presidential and parliamentary elections. Only those candidates and parties that are approved by the clerical Guardian Council can be elected. The system as a whole is presented as a "republic" based on Islamist ideology.

    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_parties_in_Iran

Point being the election in Iran makes no difference. All candidates are already screened and approved. It's a fixed election from the start, no matter who wins. Kind of like voting for either Obama or McCain..

Here is yet another informative link:

    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Politics_of_Iran

Now kindly stop worrying about fixing countries that are oceans away from you and fix your own mess.
  30. HollytheHousewife
Ummm why would u say that? I'm not in a mess compared to what other people in the world is going through.

Sit back a minute bruh and thank the good lord 4 the probs that u do have!

I mean hellerrrr (madea). I bet you have never awakened to the sound of your kids being taken "boys" to be indoctrinated, and given guns to turn on their loved ones.
"Girls being taken and raped from their inocence and sold to brothals! That happens in africa

Back to iran: have you ever thought it is ok to stone a woman to death for defaming their family name! Or not allowed to drive a car.
No our mess over here is only a drop in the bucket compared to the rest of the world.
  31. HollytheHousewife
U think just like my hubby! I am soooooo sick of selfish people always taking about taking care of mine. Ya might try to think outside of yourself for just a minute.....there is a whole other world out there and it shouldn't revolve around paris hilton breaking a nail, lindsey lohan' crotch,or brittany spears meltdown!!!!!

IT IS SO FREAKIN STUPID, and TOTALLY SELFISH!!!!!
  32. HollytheHousewife
I'm too scared to even turn the news on now.
  33. CentricStudios
Twitter may give Iranians a voice, but don't try that stuff here in the states because you will be arrested.

Why so much sympathy for Iran.. they are rich and their problems are not all that urgent. Why don't you think of the poor countries if you HAVE to?
  35. HollytheHousewife
Why not worry about everyone who is getting their voice supressed?
