One of our main goals at BC is to "discover" bloggers and give bloggers a platform to distribute their work.

Almost a year ago we had the following idea:

"BlogCatalog is a second home to so many bloggers whose voices aren't heard outside of BlogCatalog and their loyal blog readers.

A blogger approached me today and suggested that we consider putting together a book that focuses on 300 of BlogCatalog's bloggers.

The book will highlight a post from each blogger, her story as well as links to her blog.

I think it could be an interesting read and highlight bloggers who haven't been discovered and whose writings should be shared with more people than they currently reach.

What do you think? "

If you or one of your blogger friends has an amazing post that you'd like to submit for consideration, please drop the link below and include a short description of the post and why it should be included in the book.

I'd like to submit this one, as I don't think anyone has done something similar:

Your Blog is really interesting, I support your choice
    2. greencurmudgeon
      Thank you very much.
    3. timethief
      @thegreencurmudgeon
You are an accomplished writer and your blog is IMHO outstanding. Your article choice is excellent but IMHO all of your posts are worthy of consideration.
    4. greencurmudgeon
      @timethief

      Again, thank you very much.
    5. onceafortnight
      You have my vote too!
    6. greencurmudgeon
      @onceafortnight

And thank you to you too.
  2. EntrepreneurNovice
Really Great Idea, Blogcatalog really helps Bloggers promote their Blogs.
  3. Agit8r
    I like it
  4. fruitcake
Great idea! Maybe even break the book up in sections for the different types of categories blogs are listed under here.
    1. crpitt
Oh you bugger you beat me to it
    2. fruitcake
Na na na na na nah!
    3. keropidark
      That is a good idea.
  5. Epicharis
    How are we defining 'undiscovered'?
    1. TonyB
      no clue...
    2. Epicharis
Ha! so basically anyone we feel is underappreciated?
    3. TonyB
      and talented
    4. EntrepreneurNovice
Easy Blog with no or low PR
    5. TonyB
      and plagiarized content
    6. EntrepreneurNovice
If it has PR it means the blog has already been discovered
  6. Anok
That's an excellent idea! I'll have to look through and see who's posts I'd like to submit for consideration. Not today though.

    Is there a time limit?
    1. TonyB
Would be good if we could have all the suggested posts by the end of May.
  7. timethief
Here are two related articles that IMHO are worthy of consideration too:
    dear past me insidecandy.co.za/2009/04/dear-past-me/
    dear future me insidecandy.co.za/2009/01/dear-future-me/
  8. dosox
Interesting.. I'll have to check out too
  9. Norski
Great idea. If I find a post that's good enough, I'll get on the get on the bandwagon. Er - submit it.
  10. cookingasshole
Codesucker did this post called "How to lose visitors and lower your pagerank" which I think is quite funny. I would like to nominate it.

    codesucker.blogspot.com/2009/04/how-to-lose-visitors-and-lower-your.html
  11. timethief
I'd also like to recommend this blogger and her blog. Although I particularly like story Shadowplay, she may want to choose another one.

  12. chicky401
I think it's an excellent idea Tony
  13. acousticguitarist
    Tony V 1.0:

    It's a great idea

I think I should be included because although it may not be obvious, I threw the standard model out of the window of what a lot people were considering how a blog could be used, decided to disregard what everyone else said or was doing and started from scratch and created a testing environment at various blogs. I looked at the way google responded to minute changes at both Wordpress and Blogger, and how the various Goggle tools interacted with Blogs and other Social Networks. I crosslinked my blogs both Hosted and Nonhosted to raise the rankings of both. During this development time I've managed to raise the standards of guitar blogs globally and had almost 300,000 visitors.

My two main blogs now with new URLS theguitars.net and acousticguitarists.net are perfect examples of using both quality content of my own content which I know inside out, and resourcing other content that is inspirational and useful.

Is that enough, or would you like me to write more to try and convince you?
  14. AngelsWeekly
I'd like to say that we have a variety of writers here at The Angels Weekly, and all the writers are amazing!

But the post that I would like to nominate is written by "Violet Burroughs", that is her pen name, most of you know her as "Sweet Violet" and she has written some wonderful posts for us, but the one that receives the most attention, still, is: www.angelsezine.com/2009/03/31/what-you-dont-know-could-kill/

The amount of research and dedication she put into writing this, to hopefully help others, is worthy of inclusion.
  15. kath
I'd like to say PLEASE include Pure Faith ! kathlaforteza.blogspot.com

but it's your discretion whether you want to.

I've been blogging for four years now for the sheer joy of it, really. I decided not to use adverts and I don't get much feedback through 'comments' but more so through my email, which I respect. I believe that it deserves its own little space in your book. Do take the time to browse I'd be honoured if you include me.

    Cheers from NZ !
    kaye
  16. TonyB
There are so many brilliant members here. Check out each other's blogs and recommend posts.
  17. crpitt
    Who would buy the book?
    1. TonyB
Depends on how it's marketed. I'll definitely buy a copy. You?
    2. crpitt
Maybe, if there was an emphasis on the blogger as well as their blog content. I would like to know their blogging journey, how they found BC, what they would do differently etc.
    3. TonyB
Id like to know about the journey too. The BC part isn't that important as we know that everyone came here because of you.
    4. crpitt
The hordes follow me everywhere, its quite disconcerting sometimes.

If your going to do the book, then I think they should include how they found BC, even if they can't really remember
    5. Epicharis
won't that mostly be 'google'? Or will they have to write a story about travelling through jungles and being kidnapped by cannibals and escaping with the aid of a plastic straw to find the holy grail of blog promotion...?
    6. TonyB
@crpitt, May be really great if there happened to be a talented artist from BC to do the art work
    7. crpitt
@siul That's exactly what happened to me!

@Tony I am sure there are lots....
    8. TonyB
      @crpitt, any from the UK?
    9. onceafortnight
Can I make a wee suggestion? - Could you make sure the book also explains blogging to the people out there that don't entirely understand what it is all about. The social aspect, the reasons why people blog, the types of people that read blogs, the importance of blogging in a free-speech environment, that sort of stuff. Maybe you could ask some of these questions of each blogger submitting?
    10. LGramlich
Would the bloggers featured be receiving some of the proceeds?
    11. Epicharis
That's a very good point...it's basically going to be a book of other people's work that BC will be making money from...very shneaky...
  18. polybore
Interesting idea. Polybore has thought of a different angle that builds on this concept.
    1. Epicharis
is it 34° ? I love an acute angle, me...
    2. polybore
Sorry no, polybore is not acute. It is an obtuse angle, 110° to be precise.
    3. Epicharis
      I don't discriminate...I like all angles...
  19. ScreamBucket
"ScreamBucket" is a collection of writers...a collection of blogs within a blog. It's eclectic on purpose, and has no central theme save writing.

As writers, we have 100% original content of course, and we run a page for other writers to post links to their good stuff. We just want to be a good read - a mix of heavy, light and current.

Thing is tho - we did not want look like a blog. We wanted to provide the content but in cutting edge packaging that would allow us to stay ahead of the curve.

We are also developing a wonky revenue model which is not in place yet, but essentially no front page ads or passive revenue crap. We want to earn it.

We are three weeks in and so far so good LOL. Still mucking with technical issues here and there, but it beats working.

    sounds great Tony!
  21. irtiza104
hey tony, you can check this post out. it's written on poverty...

    lifeasiknowit22.blogspot.com/2008/10/lets-open-our-eyes.html
    1. timethief
I have no hesitation at all in recommending irizta's blog nor the post he indicates. lifeasiknowit22.blogspot.com/2008/10/lets-open-our-eyes.html

The blog contents are 100% original. irizta is a writer, sketch artist, photographer and a student in Bangladesh and he blogs about
      * Self Improvement
      * Poverty
      * Peace Promotion
      * Personal Development
      * Environment
    2. irtiza104
Thanks TT. It means a lot...
  22. cookingasshole
I think the whole point of this exercise is for us to read other people's blogs and nominate them. This is not intended to be a thread for self-promotion or nomination. Come on people, suggest someone other than yourself. You are really not that great anyway.
    1. Friday13
      Hah, I agree!
  23. cookingasshole
I would also like to nominate DollinNYC just because this is really, really cool. The photography is incredible.
    dollnyc.blogspot.com/
    dollswordsofwisdom.blogspot.com/
    1. kat822
I agree doll is fantastic! Even though her right eye freaks me out a bit
  24. KFrangeskos
I think the idea of Undiscovered Bloggers would be a great book...There are so many talented individuals out there...I would love for one of my post to be considered...I blog about inspiring people to turn to Jesus...HE is all our friend...and in today's world, who could not use a friend like him...Feel free to visit my site at JESUSKNOWSYOUBEST.BLOGSPOT.COM...and let me know what you think. Thanks everyone.
    1. cookingasshole
are there any OTHER Jesus blogs you would like recognize?
    2. TonyB
      or Moses blogs?
    3. melindaville
How about a good old Satan blog for good measure?

After all, why discriminate against Satan worshippers?

      (just kidding!).
    1. cookingasshole
explanation? nothing? just a freaking link? Please. For the love of God.
    2. TonyB
@cookingasshole, perhaps the following could serve as the cover for your new book

    3. crpitt
      Hey! heh.
  25. kat822
I have one that I have from my old blog , maybe I'll post it in my new one and leave a link
    1. avecchioni
You have a lot of super articles. You know the one in particular I really like, but I don't want to speak for you---.
    2. kat822
thanks that was sweet of you, I don't think you read this one though unless you read the litter box
  26. avecchioni
This post offers parents an activity that champions imagination as a resource for learning. The activity requires nothing more than basic household items. Like all of my articles, the content is original--nothing is recycled or lifted from other sources.

Why should it be included in your book? --Because it's part of a collection of articles that helps parents build their child’s confidence and ability to learn. And besides, where else in the world are you going to find activities like, Kids' Science: What if an Elephant Sat on it?, 5 Games to Play with Cotton Balls, and The Fabulous One Minute Robot Your Child Will Love. I mean really?

love your posts makes me want to teach knd. again , sighhhhhh
    2. MidwestMom
As a parenting/Mom blogger, I agree that @avecchioni and Spaghetti Box Kids is a terrific blog and a fantastic resource. He puts a great deal of thought and creativity into his work.
  27. KFrangeskos
Hey cookingasshole and TonyB...how about JESUSSAVES.BLOGSPOT.COM
In one post, the blogger talked about how low people will go to make a buck. They are pathetic in my opinion. "You don't need to buy a green handkerchief" to have God's Blessing...Using God's name to make a profit is really, really low...your supposed to help others, not help yourself! What's your spin on God? Do you feel HE is your friend? or just a Myth ?
    1. TonyB
@KF, appreciate the recommendation though don't want this thread to turn into a discussion about our beliefs. There are a bunch of threads for discussion (though rarely will it be a discussion) of religious beliefs on here.
  28. KFrangeskos
@TonyB...thanks for responding...I am new to blogging as you can see...just wanted to get some feedback from bloggers at BC...thinking about submitting a post for your review? Should I select a post or do you want to check out my blog when you get a chance...and see if there's anything you like? KF
    1. TonyB
      Select a post please.

  33. HollytheHousewife
    GREAT IDEA!!!! HOLLYtheHOUSEWIFE.wordpress.com
and where would people get the book!
  34. fluke76
Interesting idea, but how would you go about selecting just 300 blogs?
    1. TonyB
We will get recommendations from the community and then the BC team along with Rich Becker from CopyWriteInk will decide.
  35. HollytheHousewife
    @tonyb,that'll count me out.lol
  36. ThriftShopRomantic
Well, this one-- "Showdown at Crazy Francois' Maison de Fier" was about a battle of wills, gastrointestinal machismo and hot sauce...

    www.cabbagesnkings.net/2008/10/showdown-at-crazy-francois-maison-de.html

It might be a little different than what folks would expect to see on a blog.

I have discovered a brave and beautifully written blog that I would like to see considered www.blogcatalog.com/user/svasti
Blog - Svasti: A Journey From Assault To Wholeness
    svasti.wordpress.com/
I’m a woman living in Australia attempting to unravel the mess created in my life by a single incident of violent physical assault. Hopefully with some humour, insight and poetry along the way... I'm also a yogini with a strong interest in spiritual pathways.

I like reading this team blog because the writers provide many useful posts on blogging tips and on blog design as well.

  39. lingoslinger
It's a great idea and even if everyone here at BC bought a copy, it would do quite well.

If every contributing blogger put a badge on their site promoting the book to their readers, that would help propel sales as well.

Similar to the Connect book in that it was a crowd sourced project.
    1. TonyB
that's a great idea if everyone who is featured in the book posts a badge. We could also promote the book on BlogCatalog.
    1. codesucker
Thank you - I'm honored, really. I had alot of fun writing that post and I'm glad people seem to like it.
    2. timethief
      @codesucker
IMHO the posts in your blog are all valuable. This one was also entertaining so that's why I selected it. Long may you blog.

There is this post I had written about "Words" a while ago. I would like to suggest that for inclusion

There's another post of mine that narrates a short story of dance and love

    achingpen.blogspot.com/2007/09/dance.html

    Another one on an Angel

    achingpen.blogspot.com/2007/08/angel.html

    JFK
  43. countsneaky
Thanks Harvey for your kind nomination.
The Count was born quirky and eccentric and if he knew what he was doing, at this late point in his life, he would be sitting on the porch of a condo in Florida sipping cider with his wife watching the wrinkle parade go by. The Count would like to nominate Harvey's blog in return...but, that would be gauche, wouldn't it. So, I will leave it to one of Harvey's many other readers to do so. I'm sure they will because this is quirky, eccentric,
    and interesting blog. Count Sneaky

    yogaforcynics.blogspot.com
    1. timethief
Sheesh ... you weren't at all patient. I was getting to yours but my list is long and I didn't want to post too many on any given day ... lol

You are expected to submit link to a post and not just a link to your blog.
    2. drjay1966
Oh...well, if you were planning on getting to it anyway, I'll let you pick a good post....
  46. jtsantos
I would like to submit this one. Even if don't get included I still hope it could be useful.

    dialysispostings.com/2009/04/a-warm-embrace-for-a-weary-soul/
    1. timethief
I second that submission and what resonated for me in particular was this:

" If somebody dear to you suffers from the illness, give them your love and support. There’s no appropriate time to give these so just give it anytime. Neither must you expect them to tell you that they’re in need of your attention, for this is not likely to happen. Simply reach out at any time and at any moment."
    2. MidwestMom
I'm so glad you included that post on this list. Having had family members on dialysis and also terminally ill, I found it insightful and true. Good work.
  47. jtsantos
    @timethief Thanks!
  48. drjay1966
    Okay, since timethief insists:
I like this recent one about confusion:

Though a lot of people liked this really serious one from a while ago about depression:

I have a satirical blog. This post is called Global Warming - Get it While It's Hot. It's good. It's funny. I'm biased.

  55. Theresa111
Yes! Now I have to choose an entry. You all are so wonderful!
  56. nothingprofound
I suppose it's way too late and indecent to nominate myself and my only post to date, but:

    wwwaphorismscom.blogspot.com

The aphorism as a literary form is rarely practiced in the US. I'm one of the few pure aphorists I know of, that is, someone exclusively devoted to this mode of expression.
