It's true. Senator Robert Byrd lost his mother to the H1N1 Pandemic. Look it up.

A young student here at Cornell University died last week of swine flu. The whole community is in an uproar.

i understand that it has been a problem at Universities, what with tight quarters and beer-pong and whatnot.

Sorry if I injected too much levity with my fake scare/random factoid thread

You're in Ithaca? What a lovely place.

The University of Illinois is near us, and the first week of school there are 28 documented cases. Now, it's over 500. They've asked the students to ensure they have a 'pantry' of food to last 2 weeks or a place to go for quarantine if they get sick. Projections are that later in the semester, there may be "mass absences" from classes. We'll see. I'm wondering whether the spread rate is similar in other college towns.

(In my day, 'mass absences'only happened after MidTerms and MardiGras.)
