Us flowers are very busy this time of year but we wondered,

Valentines day,

Love or Hate it?

Do tell.

Group hugs optional & baby oil a must.

I'm not a big fan. To me it's a fake holiday for many reasons. For starters, I think it cheapens things when I'm expected to buy flowers. Does it really show any meaning if everyone does it? Or is it just a chance to trash husbands that don't? See what I mean?

I also hate holidays that I don't get off of work for. It's dark when I leave and dark by the time I get home, so I never really get that "holiday" feeling.

I feel the same way about it- what's the point when we have no time to celebrate it? And it's a waste of money, too. Material things are not important but Valentine's Day says that it is.
  2. ThriftShopRomantic
I'm kind of ambivalent about the holiday itself, but I LOVE all the vintage Valetines that are out there-- I have a collection of Victorian Valentine postcards, and the artwork on them is amazing.
  3. ichaduma
Neutral. Not being too vain or philosophical about it, but I'm not exactly those "I don't celebrate Valentine's Day, because Valentine is everyday!" kind of people either.
I'm all open for free chocolates and flowers and cute e-cards though.
  4. eddyprasetyo
    i don't know valentine day's !
  5. FLOOG
I'm from the 'If you need a commercialised industry day to show the person you love them, then you're not doing it right' camp.....

And then I always go all gooey on the day and give in to those commercial Industry pointers...

    D'oh!
    1. morgantj
I actually write about that in my post above.
  6. genopianist54
hmmmmm..... Val's day for me just like a regular day because my regular day filled with love so...
    1. ichaduma
      Valentine's Day love? Really?

Lucky you. Chocolate and roses everyday.
    2. gosmelltheflowers
Cool - a true flower smeller!
  7. thenearbyfuture
Valentines Day is a waste of time and money- although I'm sure the flower industry is happy that it's around! I heard that they're charging up to 100 dollar per bouquet of roses. That's outrageous!
  8. dpivans1
I've been with my husband for over 20 years and people at work still don't believe that he is not to do anything for me on Valentines Day. I hate that day...lol I would rather my husband bring me flowers or candy or card on some random day...just because he loves me. Not because a corporate driven holiday tells him to. This 14th...go out to the stores from 5-6pm and you will be amazed at how many men are flying through the store grabbing something...anything for their loved one. The men at my husband's office even discuss it like they are having their teeth pulled. But they know they better show up with something...because it's VALENTINES Day!
But, then again I'm kinda sick of all of the holidays...they all seem to be corporate driven instead of family/love driven.
  9. bloggernoob
it's gay. not that theres anything wrong with that
    1. Unfettered
No. It's not nearly cool enough to be gay. Nice try, though.
  10. Unfettered
    Ugh. Hate it.
  11. musampa
    I hate it
    1. gosmelltheflowers
      Group hug, anyone?
    2. morgantj
You love to hate it. What a very Valentine thing to do.
  12. diamondssaphire
I could take it or leave it, just another day.
  13. friendsofmissi
It`s useless. Makes single ppl feel like crap.
Besides, why would I need ONE DAY/ YEAR to celebrate my love for my better half?????
    1. morgantj
Why would it make a single person feel like crap? Is there something wrong with being single? Can one not be single and still express love?
    2. friendsofmissi
Nothing wrong with being single. But this is how I used to feel when I was single and felt unloved... that`s all I forgit to mention that the statement was generated by my own experience Sorry of it offended you in any way!
  14. whojaybe
All I know is if you need an excuse to "love" someone even more for one day, that is just wrong. You should love whoever you're with 365 days a year... not one day out of the entire year.

Personally, I skip out on Valentine's day and treat my lady nice for the rest of the year ;-)
  15. Majik
Its just another day for me
  16. musampa
Valentines day Sucks but it's good for marketing
  17. Ponkotsu
Yeah, not a big fan, myself, being the cynic I am in regards to love. But then, by its very nature, Valentine's Day's become a contrived holiday effectively devaluing love through commercialization. Yeesh.
  18. kdawg68
Holy heck - I got a handwritten valentine from a fellow blogger!

    theaspiringhorseplayer.wordpress.com/2008/02/12/a-horse-themed-valentine/
  19. SilverSpikes
I love spoiling my valentine - but not on demand - which I feel Valentines and Birthdays, and Christmas tend to mean. Like this valentines - I haven't been up to getting out to the shops or even making anything that says what I want to say. So right now the pressure is on - I have to come up with something creative this afternoon that doesn't take too much energy.
    1. LynneaUrania
Aw, come on! Give poor little sweet Cupid a break! Lol.
  20. aussiecynic
    far to commercial.....
nice dinner and flowers will do
  21. Lovebabz
LOVE IT! I am blogging about love and passion all month...complete with poetry and of course my brand of self analysis.

  22. acousticguitarist
Any thing that touches our heart in some way is good

yes it's commercial, yes we pay triple, i don't care
  23. dotartdude
    Hate the day.

    Love the chocolate.
    1. friendsofmissi
      Amen to that!
  24. daisythecurlycat
I love Valentine's Day! For me, it is a day to get lots of extra treats and kisses and love.
  25. clairec23
I'm not a fan. Flowers die, cards get thrown in the bin...I'm just not into it - he is, unfortunately.
  26. harrachglassbeads
I guess it is a little late to answer this but I hate it. I'm waiting for people in my community to start decorating the outside of their houses and trees like they do for halloween and Easter soon
  27. gosmelltheflowers
12 months goes by and we're ready for another one!
  28. winston
I mean thats the day to express love to any one whom you love and vice-versa its not a day only for lovers hating it therefore mean you have no one on earth whom you love just as no one loves you.
As for me i LOOOOVE it
    1. gosmelltheflowers
      Thanx for sharing Winston...
  29. cko20
I'm lucky enough to have a wonderful husband to share the day with - but we show that we love each other every day, so do we need a special day for that? I do enjoy the chocolates and flowers, though!
  30. abhinaya
    love VALENTINE !!
  31. Svelmoe
Don't care - although it is starting to make an entry in this country, it is still mostly regarded as a commercial American thing.
  32. LynneaUrania
I love it! But it always seems to pass me by...even with my boyfriend.
    (hint? hint?)
    1. gosmelltheflowers
      cool - thats the idea....
  33. idealpinkrose
I love it because i feel and see people with full of love but I hate it at the same time because in Korea ladies give chocolates to men. It's opposite in most countries, I know!
  34. sisterofmercy
I usually hate it, think it's a corporate holiday designed to make those who aren't in relationships miserable. Saying that though, things might be different this year so I'm hoping it will be good.
  35. wandadog13
Someone loves it as we're getting quite a few orders for our photo jigsaws - especially the novelty wooden one with letters spelling 'I Love You' in the pieces.

    Nice post Jim.
    1. gosmelltheflowers
      Cool fab pohoto!!
  36. ophase
Why everyone keep provoking the Valentines Day so much?
I'm planning to meet a gf who was born in Valentines Day and marry her at the same day. So i hope it will be easy for me to remember both anniversarry and birthday
    Yes,this is me!!
  37. zoooni
i hate it probably coz iam single
but well may be some day ill love it too
  38. thetravellerreturns
Me and my bird completley ignore it. Its money making gimmick shite. and if you love your bird once a year you shouldnt really be together.
  39. Floormodel
I can take it or leave it. My other half is rather cheap (but I call him thrifty) so we don't do it up big. But I'd prefer to hold hands and be told I'm loved every day year round than get a bunch of roses and a card just one day of the year.
  40. wehireu
I rather like Valentines day. It is a sweet holiday. I like the flowers better than the candy, however.
    1. gosmelltheflowers
      GOOD CHOICE!!
      Buy them from us :-0
  41. MylissaAriana
I like Valentines Day, but I hate the commercial side of it. So my partner and I have a nice evening in, with a home cooked meal, some nice wine and some good conversation. And then we go out for dinner another night...
But I still like to get flowers.
  42. theliterate
I don't really get the point. I don't see what the big deal is. Spread the love throughout the year lol
  43. jjmezzio
Circa 2002-03, I rushed to a florist after my class to purchase a bouquet of red roses for mother's day. I had a little chat with the owner of the shop. She reminded me that everyday can be a mother's day. You don't need to wait for that one particular day to arrive to celebrate your mother.

So same thing goes with Valentine's Day.

But to answer the question, no hate. Just spread the love.
  44. ladylyf
Lemme put it like this: if val's day is the only day i get flowers and chocolates from him, he's definitely getting the boot!
    1. gosmelltheflowers
      LOL! Ouch...
  45. armywife65
I love Valentines Day most of all because it's also my Anniversary. This year will be our 8th year of marriage.
I hate roses, so spring flowers are for me, but we usually just go out to dinner...the night before, Can't stand crowds.
    1. HalfCrazy
Your 8th year, huh? That's really nice! Now there's no reason to forget about the date of your anniversary anymore lol!

It's cool to avoid the V-Day rush. I don't understand why people suddenly go out and hang out in hordes.
  46. sunnyberra
I'm indifferent to the holiday. I don't care if people celebrate it, but I don't.
  47. FameofShame
    It's my favorite holiday.
  48. EmpressWingMay
I completely forgot about it. Now that I know, I still don't care.
    1. gosmelltheflowers
      Thnx for sharing....
  49. HalfCrazy
I'm single and I don't hate it lol! It's actually great (and cheesy!) to see people in their romantic moods just because it's V-Day lol. Plus I get some chocolates from my Dad and maybe a little 'something' from other people.
  50. BLACKLASHEZ
Love it! But only if there is a special someone! Otherwise Its still nice looking at all the red decorations!
    1. gosmelltheflowers
REd is the colour to GO! for...
  51. enhancephotos
    I think it's a nice day!!
  52. Kasumi
    I like Valentines day
  53. ckent27
If I had a special someone, I'd probably enjoy it more than I do. HAHA.
  54. roger420
I love valentines day. At least i can remember our first date.
  55. jafabrit
I am neutral, although I am never opposed to getting flowers
  56. francescak
don't care at this point. Just another day to enjoy time together!
A big smoooch for all of you!

  57. Hangingonahyphen
It's just an ordinary day to me. But that doesn't mean I hate it. In Pinoy lingo we just say "Wala lang..."

My latest blog was actually about valentine's day...

    www.hangingonahyphen.blogspot.com
    1. HalfCrazy
Yeah, I find Filipinos saying that most of the time too. Like, "What are you doing for Valentine's Day?" then I get the reply, "Wala lang.."
  58. Timmim
    Dah I forgot!!!
  59. zataki
I love Valentine's Day, as it forces me to reassess all of the positive aspects of my relationship and be thankful that I am happy and not alone.
  60. preaxz
    Valentine's day? Naahhhh ...

The only day I'd love so much is my PAY DAY!
  61. Lunais
I don't have a strong opinion on it. It's good that it's a holiday to celebrate with our loved ones but I don't mind if I celebrate the v-day any other day than feb 14.

I'm just thankful to have my husband every day!
  62. saiffarooqi
i neither love it nor hate it ... its just another day. why does anyone need a particular day to celebrate love, express your love, or buy gifts n all for your loved one. that can be done any day and any number of times.
