Is it still ok for you to eat food with meat flavouring?
Like chicken soup, beef noodles, cheese and bacon corn snacks?

I remember a few years back when mum invited some new neighbours (whom were jewish)over for lunch and served them bacon and egg pie. They were devouring it and saying how much they liked it until they asked what meat was used in it. Of course they all gagged and had to leave very quickly after that.

No vegan will eat any food if it's prepared with animals or animal products - so soups and things made with beef or chicken bouillon or a bouillabaisse are a no-no.
But if it's a vegetable based broth or flavoring, it's fine.
For example, one particular brand of bacon bits is actually 100% animal free. (Can you believe that? It's a popular brand, too). It tastes bacony - but it's guilt free
Most vegetarians won't eat an animal based product or broth either - but they will eat dairy and eggs. -

I find the concept hard to grasp that some people are against meat, but don't mind the flavouring if it's animal free. I can understand why but I just don't see the point.

It isn't the flavor most object to (Although I hate the taste of pork chops, liver, etc).
It's the factory farming that goes into the nice and neatly packaged meats you buy at the grocery store. As well as the hormones and chemicals they inject into the animals, which you then consume.
Also, meat consumption in the US is seriously out of control, it's served for breakfast lunch and dinner, everyday. You only need to eat red meat once a week, if that much, poultry 2-3 times a week, and fish a little more often that that. So many Vegans and vegetarians are abstaining, and making up for a life time of too much meat. -
I can understand that, but surely if or when you eat meat flavoured items there must be a point where you wonder why you just dont eat the real thing, but are quickly reminded of the reasons you've stated.
I would find it hard sticking to that sort of diet, I take my hat off to those who stay faithful to it. -
Some meat flavored things are very addicting - mainly because of the salt and MSG, and not the meat itself (think slimjims, bacon bits, beef and chicken bouillon, etc and so forth).
Some cured meats are also addictive because of the salty/spicy flavoring - such as pepperoni, prosciutto, sausage, ham, etc and so forth.
It's natural to crave these items, in small doses, because craving salt is a natural human dietary reaction. (We need salt). But....when you know what went into producing that food, you're often turned off enough to not want to eat the real thing, but can stomach a fake.
