Are Vegetarians depriving their children of a wonderful childhood experience by not letting them eat McDonalds?
Does this isolate them from their peers and turn them into freaks?

No it makes them better people. I wish my kids didnt like Mc Donalds and we dont eat there that often. I had to get a happy meal today for my son but I took him clothes shopping so it was only fair. They are one of the only places that do not offer a veggie burger on their menu or a good option for vegeterians.

I see nothing wrong with letting a kid go to McDonald's and enjoy him or herself.
As long as you don't take them everyday and turn them into a little butterball, you're fine.
Once a week during the weekend, I treat my kids to pizza or McDonald's because during the rest of the week my wife or I (mostly my wife) will prepare a nice, healthy dinner. Heck, I have the only kids I know who enjoy salad.
I think kids should have normal childhood experiences, just so they know what the majority of their peers are doing and have an idea of what's going on. -
That's what McDonalds corporation wants to do, appeal to children to get them wanting the stuff early. Give them a wonderful childhood experience, one that they can remember for a lifetime... diabetes.

I didn't forget squat.
Furthermore, the thread title made me laugh 'deprived' and 'vegetarians.' The guy doesn't ask if it's good for their diet to not eat meat or question the ethics of projecting your skewed morality on your children (basically disallowing them from making their own life choices), instead he's concerned that they can't have the delightful experience of eating prepackaged crap food. First, don't get the impression that I'm defending vegetarians, I had to date one and it was HELL.
In regards to the topic, it just seems like a stupid question to ask about the issue in general. Of all the things you could ask about a vegetarian and their children, you go right to 'if it's mean to not let their kids enjoy the same disappointment the rest of us had in childhood' which was getting home and finding out you got the damn girl's happy meal with the Disney princesses instead of the Ninja Turtles.

being vegetarian is a choice and should not be forced on children. Let them wait until they are old enough to decide for themselves.

I think I saw a website called hidetheveggie.net....

I'm a vegetarian, and do not intend to allow my kids to eat at mcdonalds or any fast food place. My mother didn't let me and my sister eat there growing up. From the food preperation methods to the fat content...it's all around just BAD.

I think McDonalds is gross.. Not all of us meat eaters frequent fast food windows. My son eats meat, prepared at home, by me or his dad. All the little vegetarian/vegan children I know are thin and sickly looking with dark circles under their eyes all the time. Honestly..they look like crap. Maybe if they actually had a little milk and protein other than cardboard, known as tofu, they'd look a little better.

it's a good point that some vegos can look a little sick. I've been a veg wedge for 39 years and I'm ok though, but a little suntan makes the difference ( I know it's politically incorrect to get a tan these days but it makes such a difference). A balanced diet is important, that's for sure. I know lots of veg kids, but most look ok.
I know a lot of kids that won't eat maccas because they saw the supersize movie and they just won't touch it.

I'm a vegetarian but my kids are omnivores. We have eaten at fast food places when we've been out and about and needed something quick. Our BK actually does have a veggie burger BTW (it's MorningStar Farms.) And these days, most of the big chains do the fries in trans-fat free oils plus have "healthy" side options for kids like apple slices or side salad and milk vs. soda.

It is the parents choice to allow them to eat at McDonald's. In my opinion children should only be allowed to eat there a few times a month. Then you have to make sure they eat reasonable healthy food: salad, apple slices, grilled chicken wrap, grilled cheese,etc....No there not freaks for not eating McDonald's, there would be just considered atypical! Unfortunately, many children think a healthy meal is a greasy burger and fry combo. Maybe before its to late they will realize the best meals are home cooked and doesn't contain tons of additives, preservatives,..... whereas home cooked meals are fresh and usually have a least one vegetable per meal!
