Are Vegetarians depriving their children of a wonderful childhood experience by not letting them eat McDonalds?

Does this isolate them from their peers and turn them into freaks?

I hope you're joking. McDonald's is child abuse.

lmao , ya it is !

Cooper, I hope you're joking too!
    3. acousticguitarist
my kids have never tried it
    4. JoelKlebanoff
      Hell, McDonalds is adult abuse.
    5. cooper
Nope, it's closer to child abuse than vegetarianism. There weren't any near where I grew up but even when we moved back here we never ate there. I have eaten their french fries maybe three or four times in my life.
  2. amybyrd21
No it makes them better people. I wish my kids didnt like Mc Donalds and we dont eat there that often. I had to get a happy meal today for my son but I took him clothes shopping so it was only fair. They are one of the only places that do not offer a veggie burger on their menu or a good option for vegeterians.
  3. robinsgothealth
You have to be kidding, my son has never liked Mcdonalds...lol!
  4. MidwestMom
    Not vegetarian -- at all.

And yet, we don't eat at McDonalds.

    [whispers]...my kids aren't deprived a bit.
  5. Timesobserver
I see nothing wrong with letting a kid go to McDonald's and enjoy him or herself.

As long as you don't take them everyday and turn them into a little butterball, you're fine.

Once a week during the weekend, I treat my kids to pizza or McDonald's because during the rest of the week my wife or I (mostly my wife) will prepare a nice, healthy dinner. Heck, I have the only kids I know who enjoy salad.

I think kids should have normal childhood experiences, just so they know what the majority of their peers are doing and have an idea of what's going on.
  6. MisterRepose
That's what McDonalds corporation wants to do, appeal to children to get them wanting the stuff early. Give them a wonderful childhood experience, one that they can remember for a lifetime... diabetes.
    1. Timesobserver
But you forget that a parent has a say. It's up to the parents, not the kids. The parents need to be in charge and I don't think a lot are nowadays.
    2. MisterRepose
      I didn't forget squat.

Furthermore, the thread title made me laugh 'deprived' and 'vegetarians.' The guy doesn't ask if it's good for their diet to not eat meat or question the ethics of projecting your skewed morality on your children (basically disallowing them from making their own life choices), instead he's concerned that they can't have the delightful experience of eating prepackaged crap food. WTG
    3. Timesobserver
Well, to be fair, a lot of that vegetarian food is prepackaged crap, so it evens out.

But Acousticguitarist isn't say that kids should eat this stuff everyday.
    4. MisterRepose
First, don't get the impression that I'm defending vegetarians, I had to date one and it was HELL.

In regards to the topic, it just seems like a stupid question to ask about the issue in general. Of all the things you could ask about a vegetarian and their children, you go right to 'if it's mean to not let their kids enjoy the same disappointment the rest of us had in childhood' which was getting home and finding out you got the damn girl's happy meal with the Disney princesses instead of the Ninja Turtles.
    5. MadameX
MisterRepose, I'm very curious about the circumstances under which you were required to date someone against your will.
    6. acousticguitarist
      I wouldn't date a non-vegetarian

That's so funny, you dated one and it was hell. Tell me more.

She was probably a vegan, they can be a little extreme, for a really bad time, date a Macrobiotic
    7. timethief
      @misterrepose
If you think this is a stupid question then why choose to answer it?
  7. tcinvestor
No and No. Do they really need McDonald's? How in any way will that improve their life? That's right...nothing, zippo, nada, ziltch.
  8. cookingasshole
being vegetarian is a choice and should not be forced on children. Let them wait until they are old enough to decide for themselves.
    1. acousticguitarist
but what if they won't eat their vegetables?
    2. cookingasshole
      they should starve.
    3. DollinNYC
Force feed them like they do to ducks/geese when they make fois gras.
    4. cookingasshole
      God I love fois gras.
    5. amybyrd21
you have to learn the hide the veggi technique. I have to use it on my hubby all the time.
    6. DollinNYC
I have never actually tried it...
    7. cookingasshole
      neither have I
    8. DollinNYC
OK didn't you just say you loved it?
    9. cookingasshole
      I made that up
    10. Stillthinking
Fois Gras is delicious, fatty goodness. I always make sure to order it whenever I go to a French restaurant. That and duck fat fries.

      So insanely good.
    11. Agit8r
      I think I saw a website called hidetheveggie.net....
    12. Stillthinking
Also crazy artery clogging goodness: bacon wrapped fois gras.

you should never deprive your kids from mickey D's... It's almost a GOD GIVEN RIGHT!! once a month makes my girls day....don't forget about the playground. That is their fav. I mean where else on earth can you spend 10$ feed a family and let them have a ball.... NOWHERE,but mickey D's
    1. cookingasshole
      I LOVE the playground!
  10. HollytheHousewife
I know me to... I love the ball pit...sooooo much fun
    1. Agit8r
you DO know what goes on in there after closing time.......?
    2. HollytheHousewife

    3. crazyTsu

    4. Agit8r
I've heard from inside sources that that's how closing crew gets the "raises"... if you catch my drift
  11. crazyTsu
McDonald's does have a veggie burger.. but others dont - burger king et all
  12. davedol
I can live without McDonalds. However, if we are talking about White Castle, that is a different story. The world would be a sad place without Sliders. Everyone should be regularly fed those tiny square burgers to grease up their arteries and increase circulation. My healthy tip!
  13. environmentalbooty
Gimme a break! Long live the freaks because the rest of them will die of heart disease long before the vegans!
  14. HollytheHousewife
YESSSS long live the freaks!!! I get to eat meat that tastes wonderful to a kid! Then get to see them have even more FUN playing on the playground.Oh and wait a minute... if we do die from heart disease we're only going to a BETTER place.... Hell I can be first in line for that. It's living life and having fun,and enjoying LIFE!!!
  15. lovesome1
not giving your child mcdonalds isn't depriving them of anything!
    1. acousticguitarist
      not even chemical poisoning?
  16. hatingtherain
McDonalds soy burgers are delicious. What's wrong with you people? DELICIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    1. acousticguitarist
can you leave it on the window sill for three months without it decomposing?
    2. hatingtherain
I would never try that. That would be wasting good food.

I question the word 'good' in that sentence

What's the big deal? Many religions have their dietary restrictions. Why should vegetarians be any different?
  18. sjtavo
a friend of mine sums it up well - one meal at McD's takes a day off your life. I may eat it once a year on that morning i wake up so hungover i want to die. Otherwise, I don't do fastfood. Ok except Taco Bell because my little slice of heaven is a chili cheese burrito with sour cream LMAO
  19. lotusb
I'm a vegetarian, and do not intend to allow my kids to eat at mcdonalds or any fast food place. My mother didn't let me and my sister eat there growing up. From the food preperation methods to the fat content...it's all around just BAD.
    1. tcinvestor
      Welcome to McAmerica.
    2. Agit8r
      "McAmerica"

      It is anymore, isn't it?
    1. sjtavo
      that's just yucky LMAO

I think McDonalds is gross.. Not all of us meat eaters frequent fast food windows. My son eats meat, prepared at home, by me or his dad. All the little vegetarian/vegan children I know are thin and sickly looking with dark circles under their eyes all the time. Honestly..they look like crap. Maybe if they actually had a little milk and protein other than cardboard, known as tofu, they'd look a little better.

it's a good point that some vegos can look a little sick. I've been a veg wedge for 39 years and I'm ok though, but a little suntan makes the difference ( I know it's politically incorrect to get a tan these days but it makes such a difference). A balanced diet is important, that's for sure. I know lots of veg kids, but most look ok.

I know a lot of kids that won't eat maccas because they saw the supersize movie and they just won't touch it.

you must be a shareholder in mcdonalds - yes ?

    love+light to you+yours
    1. acousticguitarist

  22. seaglassorganic
I'm pretty sure they have salads at McD's. You can still go there w/you friends- don't have to eat what they eat.
  23. BeamingBalance
I'm a vegetarian but my kids are omnivores. We have eaten at fast food places when we've been out and about and needed something quick. Our BK actually does have a veggie burger BTW (it's MorningStar Farms.) And these days, most of the big chains do the fries in trans-fat free oils plus have "healthy" side options for kids like apple slices or side salad and milk vs. soda.
  24. JasonAckles
It is the parents choice to allow them to eat at McDonald's. In my opinion children should only be allowed to eat there a few times a month. Then you have to make sure they eat reasonable healthy food: salad, apple slices, grilled chicken wrap, grilled cheese,etc....No there not freaks for not eating McDonald's, there would be just considered atypical! Unfortunately, many children think a healthy meal is a greasy burger and fry combo. Maybe before its to late they will realize the best meals are home cooked and doesn't contain tons of additives, preservatives,..... whereas home cooked meals are fresh and usually have a least one vegetable per meal!
    1. jeremyjanson
Some kids don't get home cooked meals at home either though.
  25. acousticguitarist
    @Jason

"many children think a healthy meal is a greasy burger and fry combo. "

    Is that serious?
