We put a post on the BC blog about whether or not videos are going to be the next big thing for bloggers. I've heard a good number of people say this is the case, but find that a very small number of blogs I visit use videos.

If you have a second, check out our short post about this subject and let us know what you think about it. Do you or will you use video on your blogs? Do you think it is a valuable addition?

I have used video on my blog mythoughtsalways.blogspot.com/2009/04/my-thoughts-always-shirley-exposed.ht...

That is me. I don't do it a lot though. Kids screaming in the background wouldn't hold much interest. I did grab a lucky moment. I don't know if it will be the next big thing though.

I have used a few videos on my blog from some hiking that I did. I have not done any pieces to camera type thing as of yet, but wouldn't rule it out totally.

I would love to have my own cooking videos but I do not have a nice enough camera

If I use video it's generally Youtube embeds. Since I really only write about video games and consoles/hardware on my blog, I think it's best at times that while I'm writing the article or review people have a video to reference what I'm talking about.

I do use videos ocassionally because it helps when you are trying to describe a musical style or an artist.

I use video on my website.

    Never.

And I don't click on vids on other people's blogs (or anywhere else, for that matter).

Not everybody lives in the US and gets internet access in large quantities for cheap fees. Here in South Africa we buy our internet access by the gigabyte and Telkom, the national telephone company, shuts us down for the rest of the month if we exceed our cap!

We can subscribe to other ISPs which will let us buy more gigs if we run out, but they cost more per gig than Telkom. We buy 3 gigs per month for two users. Not enough to make regular video viewing a reality here.

People in other countries may be experiencing the same kinds of issues...it just costs too damn much to download them.

thanx for the insight. I really hadn't thought about speed and cost issues when pondering this subject. Good points.

"Telkom, the national telephone company, shuts us down for the rest of the month if we exceed our cap!"
      The horror!

Actually, since I use the internet to do research for a client and she has been known to send me something at 5 am and expect me to get back to her by 1pm with the results of my research, having the internet cut off can be a serious problem for me!

I wasn't kidding. I make a decent monthly income from my on-line hobbies and being cut off for part of the month would cut that down significantly.

    I read and I commented.

In my comment I addressed the issue that sweetviolet brings up above from the slow page loading time angle. I did not include the cost element as she did.
Someday, the vast majority of connections will be full-time, high-speed connections using one of the emerging broadband technologies. Currently, at least half of all internet users are currently using dial up connections. The explosion of broadband is limited to a handful of countries that include the US, Australia, Canada and Japan. In Great Britain, for example, broadband connections account for only about one percent of the residential Internet market. (Reference: Dave McClure, President, US Internet Industry Association)

MEH … Personally I really don’t care whether or not the interviews found in the official BC blog contain videos. I'm reading the interviews and I will continue to read them whether or not there are videos.

However, I do think it would be cool if BC members could post a single video of their own on their BC Profile page featuring a brief bio, and a statement about what they blog about.

Thanks for the suggestion about the profile video. I think that's an interesting idea.

You're welcome. While we are chatting I'd like to say that I don't find video interviews to be all that fascinating. I've seen so many and most predictably feature the interviewees answers to the same old, same old questions like:
      Why do you blog?
      What motivates you to blog?
Where do you draw your inspiration from?

YAWN ... It seems as though there is a script that every interviewer uses.

YAWN ... I'm also not into viewing and hearing about anyone's personal life, (spouses, kids, pets, etc., unless it's directly connected to what they blog about.

These are the questions I'm looking for answers to:
      (1) What's your blogging niche and your brand?
      (2) What makes your blog unique from other blogs in that niche? (Why should I visit it?)
      (3) Which reading audience is your content aimed at attracting?
      (4) What's the purpose for your blog? Or, in other words, what can readers expect to find in your blog?

videos are valuable for blogs. But as mentioned above internet speed and cost are factors decreasing their popularity in some countries.
I have a post on my blog about how to get traffic from youtube by uploading videos.

Well, I have been filming a lot of what I have been doing in my town and in memphis. I am going to start editing soon, and hopefully create a vlog that will be linked to my blog. I have been getting a lot of emails and tweets from people asking to see what exactly I've been up to.
So I think it is a great idea!
If it is too expensive for people to watch they can always read my blog,I just think it gives your readers a true look into who you are and what you're about. Kinda makes it more personal
