There's been some discussion here in the past about the nature of hate crimes and hate speech, and whether those concepts create a slippery slope.

FoxNews is reporting today that a waiter who played a tape recording of chanting in Arabic at a Jewish wedding has been charged with felony harassment. I don't know exactly what class of crime this is in NY, but a felony is by definition punishable by at least one year in prison. Too much? Or appropriate?
