Last Thursday we put up a post on the BC blog about dealing with negative comments on your blog (blog.blogcatalog.com/blogging-101/responding-to-negative-comments-on-your-b...).
The post was inspired by a fortune from a fortune cookie, and we thought it would be a cool idea to keep this theme going as fortune cookie Friday. We'll be writing some new posts that take a fortune and somehow make a connection to a blog-realted topic, but we'd also love to see what the community can come up with.
So, if you'd like to be featured in the BC blog, here's a chance. Go out, get a fortune cookie, get your fortune and then write a post that connects it with why you blog, your writing process...anything blog related!
We'll start publishing them every Friday--one or several depending on how many submissions we get. And, we'll probably pick one really great one to add to the monthly newsletter too. We think it's a cool idea and we hope you do too. Look forward to seeing what people come up with!
Title your submission Fortune Cookie Friday and mail it to jason @ blogcatalog dot com. (There will be a mail filter set up to receive these submissions so any without the proper title may not be received.)
Also, since this is a discussion, are there any other regular features or topics you would want to see explored on the BC blog?

Also i think once a month we should do a 'caption the picture' contest. Of course the more random the picture and captions the better and then maybe the winning caption can get a mention in the blog or newsletter!
Only an idea.. -

I wonder if I can write of Chinese for lunch as a business expense, if I create a post based on the fortune as a vehicle for promoting my blog.

We got chinese food last friday. My husband's fortune cookie said, "Stop searching for happiness. It is sitting right beside you."
Guess who was sitting beside him?
(I'm considering having it framed.)-
The one I always remember is one I got in Alaska. I had been really lazy while there and definitely was feeling kinda fat and lazy. i had just been telling my faminly during dinner that i had to lose a few pounds. The fortune cookie at the end of the meal said "You need to start a new workout routine."

This has nothing to do with my blog but I am on disability for undergoing a rather traumatic event at work so I started writing a book about it and not too long after I got this:
"Past experiences will be helpful in your job"
I took that as a harbinger of my future as a writer.
I keep it in the front of my freehand book.
...but I am just kidding myself -

Oh man - we dont get fortune cookies here, although we do have packets of sunmaid raisins that have fortunes on them, will that count?

I always hated those cookies, but one read "Your principles mean more to you than any money or success."
Its right because my writing means the world to me, because it comes from the very bottom of my heart. Even if people don't agree with me, I believe in my heart that my opinion is pure and uncorrupted, not because of me being cocky, but my sense to lean on one of my reliable features, being open minded to everyone else's opinions and facts then the power to collect my thoughts like pieces of a puzzle and then put them together to capture the whole picture. That in my opinion, is the real core of writing, itself, no matter what shape or form you turn it into wither it be a sword or a pen. (Pen mightier then the sword reference...). -
