DMOZ is a very high-quality directory. If your website is listed in DMOZ Directory, your site will easily outrank other websites that are not listed in DMOZ Directory. Your website will be able to get good and quality links and will acquire higher PR and more traffic. Here is another link supporting my view. It will tell you the DMOZ success story.www.dmoz.org/

Can we submit our blog on more than 1 category on DMOZ Directory?

      Do you know any wayout?

Providing that you're submitting different URLs/sites/blogs, there's no limit as to how many you can submit to DMOZ.

My guess is that you'll run out of unique websites/blogs before you wear out DMOZ's patience!

About DMOZ and how long it takes to get listed: I haven't kept detailed records, but from the sites I've submitted there, I wouldn't start wondering if your URL will get processed until two or three months have passed.

A few years ago, DMOZ stated how long you should wait before re-submitting. I think it was something like 6 months.

I'll have to look that up again, since I'm submitting more URLs now. (DMOZ's www.dmoz.org/add.html gives 'how to submit to DMOZ' information.)

Once you're into DMOZ directory, you're in good shape. Quite a few major search-and-directory sites use DMOZ data.

Quoting from the page linked above, "If your site has been accepted into the Open Directory, it may take anywhere from 2 weeks to several months for your site to be listed on partner sites which use the Open Directory data, such as AOL Search, Google, Netscape Search, Yahoo Search, and hundreds of other sites."

I could have sworn my initial "lot" of blogs were listed but, I can't find any of my blogs in DMOZ. Hmm. That sucks. I guess I've got work to do.

I've submitted often and never got any of my sites listed.

Submitting the same site "often" is a good way of getting your submissions flagged as spam at DMOZ

Here's another link at DMOZ, with more submission information. www.dmoz.org/help/submit.html

Here's a quote from the linked page:

"We do not, however, recommend submitting your site to many different categories in hopes that one or two will end up being listed. This will not get your site listed quicker, and may in fact significantly delay processing. This may be interpreted as spam, which could result in your site not getting listed at all."

Where did u guys submit..to dmoz or thumbshots.org?
    1. Norski
I submit to DMOZ directly. I've yet to use any submission service.

I assume that I know more about my sites and blogs than any submission service, and I spend less money when I to the couple-minutes of work involved.
  7. umesh
as DMOZ guidelines you have to submit once ,so you have to submit and wait and wait and wait.
It takes time to appear there. You can not sit ideal after that so keep submitting to top blog directories. Not paid one.
Sometimes it is not necessary to submit to search engines.(I am not talking of directories)

Whats thumbshots got to do with ranking higher
    1. Profitimo
Thumbshots are screenshots of web pages in thumbnail sizes. Integrating thumbshots in your site, enable your users to instantly visualize any web page, acts as a instant advertisements, and helps to drive more traffic to your site. For instance The tiny preview of a website help gives users insight of what your website actually deals with. It entices people to click further to satisfy their curiosity. Hope this helps Crkian

But that would just be the same as a backlink just with a picture, you still need to get the traffic and backlinks
  9. Profitimo
Yes, we need traffic and backlinks. I think u got confused..let me explain..suppose you own a site dealing with garment. So during choosing backlinks for your site, you will definitely want to link sites dealing with garments too. I hope u will not go with sites dealing with jewelleries..right? So,tiny preview of a website help gives users insight of what your website actually deals with. You don't need to spend uneccessary time on clicking each text link and find what the website deals with. Hope this clarifies more Crkian
    1. crkian
Im not confused, if I was dealing with garments I would have pictures of garments, then someone would know what I deal with. Not sure how many people would want pictures of other sites all over their page instead of just having a link.
  10. Profitimo
Yes that true but they will come to know u are dealing with garments after they enter to your site. But Thumbshots are screenshots of web pages in thumbnail sizes. It acts a web preview of the website you are dealing with. The online users will come to know u are dealing with garments well before navigating into the site! Just check this site for better understanding:

I can sum up what I am saying, most bloggers and new sites wont be listed on dmoz so wont be listed for free in thumbshots, so we would have to pay to be included or for thumbshots of sites not listed in dmoz.

That site you shows is a directory, not a blog, what use is thumbshots for a blog, we could use websnaps which is free or webshot which is free as well, or even create a thumbshot

I finally got into DMOZ about two weeks ago, after a year of trying. I about fell over when I saw the referrer. It was a happy day in Whoville.

It does take quite a while to get a DMOZ submission processed. They relied on (and apparently still do) volunteer editors to handle submissions.

It's not a bad system, and could be where Wikipedia got the idea for having other people do the work.

Seriously, it allows sites to be evaluated by people who have expertise and interest in the sites' subject.

I don't know how DMOZ handles the accountability issue.

More about becoming a DMOZ editor here www.dmoz.org/help/become.html
    2. crkian
Congratz at least one editor still works
    3. ThriftShopRomantic
I know the editors had been locked out of their system for a while due to some mysterious technical problem-- and that lasted several months.

And some editors on their forum said they were finding sites they liked on their own, and not obligated to even look at user submissions.
