Discussions

Attention BC Members, this is not a political discussion but I just want to know what went wrong.

Who's Fault Was It, Obama or Roberts?

Was It Anyone's Fault?
They are both well versed in the oath but what went wrong?
www.youtube.com/watch?v=tECPBYmXcqE

I can't help but think that somebody was laughing at this whole thing here as President Bush quietly sat
and watched having an internal laugh or a guilty pleasure but then again maybe I am just over-reacting.

Here's what some had to say about it

I'm sorry, I couldn't hear you over the conspiracy theory alarm.
  2. Financialnut
I think it was Roberts. No question.
  3. DangerMouse
Roberts said something in the wrong order and Obama realised so paused. Roberts repeated but then I think Obama still recited the wrong version...
    1. Jeunelle
Yes I agree with both you DangerMouse and Financialnut.
Roberts changed the order of the words and Roberts did later say he messed up
and it was his fault but why did he have to mess up on this big day.
That fumble will now be there for all to see in history. I could have kicked this Roberts.
    2. Theresa111
Mistakes are simply that. Mistakes even on big days, it happens. He is after all only human and is probably berating himself over this embarrassment. You know how we all tend to beat ourselves up after a guffaw?
    3. Jeunelle
That is true however, some things are done so smoothly that it is covered up in just the remains of the day and cannot possibly be proven.
  4. Epicharis
I think it was the Freemasons...
    1. Jeunelle
Definitely it was Bush and he is one of them.
    2. Epicharis
Did anyone follow Bush's helicopter to see if he went to the secret stash of Aztec gold?
  5. PetLvr
probably stage fright ... But, I hear on all the news that Obama plans to rewrite history so, he can just fix this too.
    1. cjbart
History is being re-written as we speak. Wait until you see next Year's Volumes of High School Text Books.....

That is why I don't throw books away.
    2. Jeunelle
      Yes I can hardly wait.
  6. mikeny07
It was probably both. I think they said he tried to memorize the lines so he probably forgot them when he read them to Obama.

What I found more interesting is that they used the Lincoln bible. Lincoln was a Republican and responsible for freeing the slaves. Anyone against Republicans should read up on history.
    1. drjay1966
Anybody who brings up the "Lincoln was a Republican" thing should try reading the history of everything that's happened SINCE the Civil War....
  7. cranelegs
well forget that, if you take a close look at the bible his hand is on, it says abe's koran. how about dem apples?
    1. Epicharis
I'm sorry, you're going to have to leave. Only one crazy conspiracy theory per thread.
    2. cranelegs
      okey dokey!
      (story of my conspiracatious life!)
  8. Jeunelle
Each president recites the following oath, in accordance with Article II, Section I of the U.S. Constitution:

“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

However Roberts put “faithfully” in the wrong place and Obama knew something in the words
was wrong but caught it too late.
  9. LynneaUrania
Justice Roberts, of course is a Bush appointee. This does sound a bit like an intentional draw on the part of Roberts as one of those transition tricks that outgoing administrations pull on the next one. If the new president followed the Oath as Roberts told him, it would have made Obama look a lot worse than if he had just paused and Bush could make hay to say that he really wasn't so dumb after all.

Everything in politics is planned. Even by dumb politicians like the last president.
    1. Jeunelle
LynneaUrania...I agree also Obama voted against Roberts for the job of Chef Justice.
    2. Epicharis
      wow, you guys are serious?
    3. LynneaUrania
O these things happen with each transition. It's just like when the Clinton people removed all the "W" keys from the computer keyboards when the Bush administration took over. These are the things like inside jokes. This is much the same.
    4. Jeunelle
LynneaUrania...Yup they planned to make an ass out of him alright
and in front of millions of people and the world. It was purely intentional.
    5. edgecrosser
      exactly!
  10. reasonablerobinson
deliberate to dupe Al Queda into thinking his lost the plot
  11. mikeny07
Urania, Obama will be in office only 4 years if he is going to make mistakes like he already did. Closing Guantnamo Bay...

If anything happens here in the next 4 years because of his actions, Obama will be held accountable by everyone, or even impeached.
    1. LynneaUrania
Actually his "mistake" was no mistake at all. It only appears that way to partisans who want to make hay.

BTW: I did not vote for Obama and am not a Democrat.
    2. Jeunelle
I didn't vote for Obama either but I can't help but wonder about all this.
    3. cjbart
My bet he won't last the Four years.

His handlers won't be happy with the Populations
dissatisfaction in his Inability to DELIVER
      on those Ridiculous Campaign Promises

Just too much stacked against him.
Maybe with maturity and experience he could
come back in a decade or so
    4. Jeunelle
I think he will do just fine and anything would be an improvement to that Bush.
  12. Jeunelle
Let's stay on topic so that this discussion doesn't become political.
Was Obama's oath purposely bungled by internal enemies?
Who's fault was it really, was it anyone's fault?
  13. mikeny07
Sorry there. I think they were both a little nervous also. This was a big day for Obama. They both sounded like they were.
    1. Jeunelle
mikeny07...Yup Obama did talk over Roberts in the beginning, probably due to nervousness, anxiousness, maybe even a little stage fright but I don't really buy that because my instincts
      is telling me something different.
  14. Jeunelle
Listen I am very sensitive and I pick up little shits like this real quick.
I am not over-sensitive but I do pick up and it is funny that out of all the Presidents in America,
Obama's oath didn't run as smooth as it should and I bet his transition into the White house was not as smooth a transition as some would have you believe but I don't want to get off topic here.

YOU'RE DAMN RIGHT THEY BUNGLED IT AND IN YOUR FACE. OUTRAGEOUS & I'M STILL PISSED.
  15. busylizzy
it's a plot by the rebel alliance
    1. Jeunelle
      ROFLAMO
  16. SpiritualBloggers
The whole affair was RUSHED. But did you see Michelle's unwavering sense of presence and support? Nothing was going to get derailed with her there...
    1. Jeunelle
      @SpiritualBloggers...Yes she was great.
    2. cjbart
Will she be able to cope with the Lack of First Position,
she is so used to be in?

White House is a Tough place for a person of EGO
    3. Jeunelle
How do you know that she is ego?
      How does one measure that?

The way I see it is anyone who is crazy enough to run for the Presidency has some ego,
so why is she and Obama different from any of our other Presidents. Didn't they have ego too?
  17. ThriftShopRomantic
They just looked really nervous to me. And I agree with SpiritualBloggers that it seemed rushed. I think the initial line-stepping threw things off a little and then the nerves kicked in.

It was a well-done speech, though. And I have restrained optimism for the difficult road ahead.
    1. Jeunelle
ThriftShopRomantic...YES overall I feel the same way but it was a dirty trick and I got my eyes
on them bastards. I am convinced it was Bush who was behind it all....lmao
I almost threw my Tomahawk at his puny Apache helicopter.
    2. ThriftShopRomantic
Well, I'm glad you're on the case, then. I don't want to mess up your intricately-woven conspiracy theory-- carry on! LOL
    3. Jeunelle
I should have me a 60 minutes spot that would be cool and maybe I can get Michael Moore
to do a conspiracy movie on the whole thing.
    4. ThriftShopRomantic
It's always good to think big. Maybe a second X-Files movie can incorporate some of it into the plot, too.
    5. Jeunelle
      YEAH that's an awesome idea.
      I get to meet Scully
  18. Jeunelle
I thought this was cute and got a few laughs

    1. ranist22
      Yes, lovely!
  19. deoangel
It is possible that it was a strong sense of nervousness. In addition, if necessary, President Barack Obama, can retake the oath in a private setting. Its not that serious...is it?
    1. Jeunelle
@deoangel...No it's not at all serious plus I heard yesterday that he does not have to retake the oath again, so it's all good.
  20. aningeniousname
It would have been much better if the guy had said to him "Repeat after me, I, state your name, do solemnly swear."
And Obama had said "I, state your name, do solemnly swear."
    1. deoangel
If I was up there standing in front of millions and millions of people and is a strong possibility of a terrorist target, I would be nervous and definitely forget what to say.
    2. Jeunelle
Oh boy they both messed up and yes I sure hope no attempts are made on Obama
and his family because we all know what a crazy world we live in today.
  21. cooper
I don't believe for a minute it was done on purpose despite Roberts being a kooky ideologue who suffered a seizure at his home a couple of summers ago, fell and hit his head - it obviously affected him and insisting he do it without notes was probably a bad idea consdiering that. A good cover though, if you are a raging ideologue will plans to mar the moment. I just don't think that is what happened.
    1. Jeunelle
@cooper...Yeah it is a pretty good cover alright and yes I would like to give them the benefit of the doubt.
  22. ArsenicCookies
dang Jeunelle, I thought my secret cult of right wingers covered our tracks well it was supposed to look like an accident, now that we know ya'll are on to us.... well crap, back to the drawing board
    1. Jeunelle
ROFLMAO you know me too well.
You know I am just having fun with this hehehehe
    2. ArsenicCookies
yes, we'll go with fun... she was kidding everyone don't pay attention to any future "accidents" or infomercials interrupting .... oh my I have said too much lol
    3. Jeunelle
"Said too much???", heck no I say let's stretch this baby as far as it will go.
Let's milk it for some Mo Ney and I am all for the MO NEY.
    1. Jeunelle
      What about Rick?
      Answer the question
    2. cooper
The only part of the inauguration which marred it for me.
    3. Jeunelle
      cooper I'm with you
    4. TheBigRuski
Interesting...for many, it was one of many highlights. In fact, millions joined in his prayer.
  23. Theresa111
    Repeated here ...

Mistakes are simply that. Mistakes even on big days, it happens. He is after all only human and is probably berating himself over this embarrassment. You know how we all tend to beat ourselves up after a guffaw?
    1. Jeunelle
@Theresa111...I sure hope he makes fewer mistakes than President Bush and yes what you say is true however, some things are done so smoothly that it is covered up
under "just the remains of the day" and cannot possibly be proven.
    2. Jeunelle
Trust me after having my Ben & Jerry's stolen from under me as I stood in line to cash out my groceries, I can tell you that some people hold malice for you for what ever reason and do their shit underneath and get away with it and they think they are so smart when they do get away with it. Of course this has nothing to do with the Obama's Oath but I am sensitive, sometimes too sensitive.

Also I can't tell you how many times I was right with my sensitivity and almost everyone else insisted I was over-reacting but yeah this whole Obama Oath thing can of course be
      "much ado about nothing"
  24. csiunatc
It's funny... Obamas fans can't bear the thought of him bungling it and will go through any convoluted reasoning to keep him the "perfect messiah".. Which makes them even more pathetic when Obama doesn't even try to deny it.

At least the man himself has enough honor to stand by his own mistakes, even when the Obamatics can't muster to admit it.

This video shows Obama crediting The Chief Justice for helping him out. (you'll have to sit through the Swedish ads for about 30 seconds first)

    www.aftonbladet.se/webbtv/nyheter/utrikes/article4233996.ab

Now lets see what the next level of twisted responses is..
Let me guess, It was STILL the CJ's fault, and Obama is just being gracious and magnanomous.
    1. Jeunelle
What is this friggin term "the perfect messiah"????
Obama is a man like every other man and I hate to hear people calling him the "Messiah".
I find that to be insultive and I am not a fan of Obama neither did I vote for Obama.

Roberts was quick to say right after the Oath that it was his mistake, he said it publicly
and right after the Oath. If it wasn't his fault, why did he claim it as his fault?
and why was he so quick to claim it?

Also I already said above that Obama was the 1st to rush the 1st part of the sentence
of the Oath, probably due to anxiousness and nervousness, so yes it is Obama's fault too.
    2. drjay1966
The only people calling him the "perfect messiah" are right wingers like you.
    3. clioandme
@CSI: Some of us just cringe when you assume that you know better than the journalists on all the networks, Fox included.

I also concur with the purple doctor about "messiah". People on the Mall were listening to the message, which was directed at them and asking them to put their noses to the grindstone. Gosh, cooperation. The indignity of it all.
    4. csiunatc
This isn't me, this is Obama himself. Why don't you go watch the video.

      www.aftonbladet.se/webbtv/nyheter/utrikes/article4233996.ab

But hey, if you rather call Obama a liar, thats fine with me.
    5. clioandme
I was there on the Mall with a JumboTron, and I watched the coverage on CBS, NBC, Fox, and ABC. (I don't have cable.) I also understand formal American English, including how pauses can work. But I defer to the Doctor of Linguistics, CSI.
    6. drjay1966
Hey csi, this just in: Obama is a Satanist who eats aborted babies.

      Run with it, dude.
    7. csiunatc
see this is the fanaticism i'm talking about. When even the man himself admits the mistake. People like you rather go to extremes like that and ridicule those that dare to say it.

This is the "messiah" syndrome i'm talking about. No question, no critique, or we attack the messenger...

Lol.. Scientology has nothing on the Obamaist movement.
    8. csiunatc
      Mark,

Again, how do you explain what OBAMA says about it. Or are you better at interpreting what he does than he is himself?
    9. Jeunelle
It's not extreme to wonder and the thought did run through my mind immediately when it happened. It was perfectly natural for me to think this way in this day and age, so I am not apologizing for being sensitive.
  25. MadMadMargo
Comment removed by the Secret Service.
  26. edgecrosser
Insane. Perfect messiah? What is this, another religion?
    1. csiunatc
I don't know, but if you go read some of the dedicated democrat message boards out there. It is often indistinguisable.
  27. dekadaye
    roberts messed up!!
    republicans are ruthless
  28. clioandme
For what it's worth, Roberts got a Bob Dylan quote wrong that he cited in a ruling this summer (markstoneman.wordpress.com/2008/06/29/the-times-they-really-are-a-changin/). In other words, this is at least one other example when he went by memory, but memory played a slight trick on him, as it does with many of us. Personally, I would have had the text in front of me, no matter how often I had prepared it. But you don't get his job without a fair amount of ego.

On purpose, though? That's just silly. Each is the head of an independent branch of government. Neither has any reason to cross the other, or even think in such terms.

Be that as it may, aren't you all glad there are no more serious problems confronting the nation and world than this one?
    1. Jeunelle
markstoneman....I fully agree, Robert should of had that text in front of him
    1. clioandme
      That's funny.
    2. Jeunelle
cooper that is funny that he would do it over again but maybe it's for the best,
to help put things to rest.
  29. Norski
Actually, it was the doing of the lizard-people that run the world ( apatheticlemming.blogspot.com/2009/01/beware-lizard-people-im-not-making-th... ). And Bush is one of them. So are the British Royals.

I don't believe it, but if that sort of idea takes off, I may have some new conspiracy theories to write about - and Wired's contest won't have any lack of entries. (That link leads to a micro-review of an old Wired article.)

Seriously? People make mistakes. Obama is a person. So is the chief justice. Unless one or the other - or both - are really lizard people.
    1. Jeunelle
YES and that is what I am trying to run with here if you all would shut up and indulge me,
for God sakes people this is just as big as who shot JFK.
I can make some money off of this thing if I just run with it.
  30. drjay1966
Silly as this is, they did it over:

    www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/01/21/obama-retakes-oath-of-off_n_159854.html

I can only hope we'll never have to hear about this again (though, of course, we will...).
    1. Jeunelle
drjay1966...yeah of course we'll hear about it again, that's a promise
    2. csiunatc
OF course you will.. Just like Bush's "OBGYN"s practising their love of women" this is a gaffe, i'm sure that as time goes on, hell make more of them that will also be made fun of.

It isn't the first time he's made one, and it wont be the last. I just think it will be hard to top the timing of that one.
  31. reasonablerobinson
Check it out...It wasn't his mistake it was John Roberts that screwed up.

    news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/obama_inauguration/7843881.stm
  32. ranist22
Jeunelle, you may be right. Obama's nomination has far-reaching implications, more than people can imagine! It has made ripples all over the world. If Roberts goofed up delibrately Obama must be sensing it.
  33. lotusb
Human error. I think people get nervous and ish happens. I think it was very approproiate. Obama has a very down to earth appeal, and getting slipped up during the oath and being able to laugh it off says a lot.
  34. Jeunelle
Everyone thank you for taking the time to voice your views.
It was great hearing from all of you, whether we agree or not,
what's important is that you clearly state your views.
  35. melindaville
It was Roberts fault. Interestingly, they re-did it in a small ceremony--just to be SUPER cautious. I wish they'd be that cautios with our bail out money!!
    1. Jeunelle
      mtyler77...Bail money, yup me too
After Roberts fell and hit his head a few months before, he should of had text in front of him
to read from and not rely only on his failing memory. Yes he messed it up alright but these bozos up above want to tell me something different. Well everyone is entitled to their opinion.
  36. LadySwan
It was nobody's fault. They more than likely got wrapped up in the moment and each lost their train of thought. They are only human!
    1. Jeunelle
      LadySwan...True
  37. MommyWife
Well... People keep saying change is in the air. Perhaps the oath is testament to that!! Keep it up. Love the blog...cuz.
    1. Jeunelle
      MommyWife...Indeed, great hearing from you.
  38. siralmo
    jeunelle this is low
    1. Jeunelle
hehehe you should know that I just like to start shit.
I hope you don't think I'm too serious.
    2. siralmo
i know but this is like "duh!!", im surprised you got this may answers
    3. Jeunelle
I'm not surprised this bc is weird
  39. timethief
My answer to the question is "no". Cooper has already posted the link above so everyone posting to this thread knows he took the oath a second time. Dead issue folks (cousins, etc.) ... lol ...
