Sorry if this is a repeat discussion; i'd be surprised if it weren't.

What's your pet peeve? It can be a person or a situation.

Here's mine:
People Pet Peeve - Judgemental, passive agressive, offended personage who wear their displeasure like a fashion statement, report you for whatever reason and DON'T have to give their names - AKA Witchhunters.

Situation Peeve - When you pay for a service - like a haircut. And your appointment ends up taking double the time to complete due to interruptions - phone calls, other customers coming in and interrupting your stylist. I hate those things! What's your pet peeves?

Jaywalkers. They're everywhere around here. They try to cross four-lane busy highways by playing a human being version of Frogger.

Fortunately, I have yet to make one of them go "splat." But I wish they'd rethink their highway hopping.
    1. Friday13
Then, it wouldn't be Frogger. It'd be Human ... er!
    2. ThriftShopRomantic
Yeah, but it kinda lacks that special... sumthin'.
    3. Friday13
They go "Splat!" all the same, still. Only that they don't get extra lives.
    4. ThriftShopRomantic
Maybe then it should be Splatt-er.
    5. Agit8r
      how 'bout Trogger

Your salon obviously needs a Tabitha salon take over.

I hate it when small children hide amongst the boxes at the supermarket and jump out at other shoppers and then I get kicked out of the store for instinctively spear tackling the child. Thats just not fair.

How about you're REALLY hungry and to out to eat, your friend accompanies you for lack of anything better to do BUT insists they're NOT hungry. Capice. You start on your plate of food, after asking them 3 times if they'd like you to get them something and being told no - then they say something like " Can i just have a little bite?" Of course now that i can't afford to go out anymore, no one dares ask for a sip out of my styrofoam cup LOL

Yeah, i hate that too. Children who are allowed to run amuck grow up to be the same as adults.

bad and slow drivers. i would have to say that is the biggest one I have. I already live a million miles from any where and then I get behind someone that goes 20 mph every where they go. AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH
    1. surveygirl46
You'd HATE me then. I drive slow only because for the 18 years I was forced to drive in a town where it was population 5, and 2 cows. I lost the ability to drive in traffic within 3 mos. I am slowly (no pun ha) gaining my ground again. But i always stay to the right and let everyone go around me - i try not to hold traffic up cuz i'm slllloooow
  5. HollytheHousewife
People who smack why they eat!!!!.I can't stand it!!!
    1. MissSuzie
Haha! My daughter is the "smack police." Anytime she hears someone smacking while they eat (even at a restaurant), she shakes a finger at them and says uh-uh-uh.
    2. harveyavatar
      smack who?

I hate when people spit out their dentures while they're eating; i DON'T care if they're 101 and don't know a porkchop from a catheter bag, it's just wrong!!!!

Lateness. Especially those people who think it's "fashionable" to show up at a party an hour late.
  8. surveygirl46
Oh I've got one more: I hate when people show up UNINVITED and stay ALL DAY, without a ride home, so if you EVER want them to leave, you have to give them one. HATE IT. All those things you all mentioned are definitely up there...Guess it all boils down to what bloggergirl said - RUDE..
    1. Friday13
Oh, yes. People showing up, uninvited. Hate that!

"People Pet Peeve - Judgemental, passive agressive, offended personage who wear their displeasure like a fashion statement, report you for whatever reason and DON'T have to give their names - AKA Witchhunters."

This is awfully specific. Who ticked you off by reporting you? If I report someone, I fess up to reporting them.
    1. surveygirl46
No, in this case it was a couple of friends it happened to. I just got mad for them. In a way, it happens to us all as so called "political correctness" has gotten SO out of hand these days.

Kudos to you for standing up for what you believe in. More people should be like that - that deserves respect, no matter what the other person's opinion is.
    2. Stillthinking
Just out of curiosity, who? And there is a difference between political correctness and defamation. This is after all a forum where everyone should be able to feel welcome.
  10. surveygirl46
You're right ST, in that respect - I think what I mean by the "so called" political correctness are the people (a few, some, whatever) that don't play fair when it comes to honesty. That USE P/C to go on a witch hunt(my term i know). There's a difference. You say that if you reported someone you would stand by it pubically. Well that's fine in my book - i am the same way. I would respect you for THAT alone even if I had no other favorable opinion of you. And you would be most welcome at what ever forum I had anything to do with. Because I'd KNOW where you stood on something.

What I am referring to are the people who HIDE behind the guise of "doing the right thing" or "just trying to help". I am sure you know of a couple of people like that.

I personally believe that if someone reports your blog, your performance at work, WHATEVER - they should be man or woman enough to give their name and their reasons why.
    1. Stillthinking
I am pursuing this line of discussion because I have noticed an uptick in personal attacks on this forum and have been complaining to Admin about being more aggressive in moderating the discussions and aggressively disciplining members who violate TOS. I was wondering if your friend was a victim of such an attack and what the circumstances were.
    2. Agit8r
can we still make fun of the factual details of AM radio hosts personal lives?
  11. surveygirl46
I will say this, while protecting his privacy: It was a HUMOR blog with a disclaimer - with a BUNCH of disclaimers. The material he showed was in no way pornograhic, nor was the post in question. I've seen way worse on SouthPark commercials that are cut for decency.

Yet he got a message from the site administration stating "people had complained" about the content. When he contacted the site admin email - he got no reply, Just the original message to take it down and The Wall had to go up (the one where you click I agree I understand and I'm choosing to click anyway)

Yes, that is what the wall is for, I know. But my point, and this is why I'm disturbed by this personally, is that this being allowed to happen is a classic analogy of what I call a witch hunt. It was a HUMOR blog. The person or person(s) knew that when they clicked on it. But did so anyway and were allowed to remain invisible yet still attack this bloggers rights in some way.

I am not referring to these types of people in general, who are given free reign because of our societies promise to "protect" them. For instance other examples would be:

In a court of law, heresay is PERMITTED by the prosecution in some cases. Ex: A person can become a "person of interest" without provocation except for someones "heresay".

To a lessor degree when I worked for the City fo Sacramento Water Department, the city encouraged citizens to "report water wasters". Great idea EXCEPT when the proven pattern was established of SOME people using it to get their neighbors into hot water (sorry unintended pun) in a neighborhood fight that had been going on for years. (This was actually seen over and again when i worked there)

I hope I explained my position clearly.

So to let a person or persons unknown, click on your site and have a problem with it (KNOWING it was a humor blog)and then be told to change something because "certain people" had a problem with it but protect their anonymity (sorry can't spell that word LOL)is not playing fairly in my book.

Those are the kinds of persons I am referring to. Silent attackers. Not the person who tells you to your face they have a problem with you or something you've done or said.
    1. Stillthinking
I'm sorry but I cannot make any assumptions as to whether or not the blog was offensive without seeing it myself.

I will say that I have reported blogs in the past. One specifically that comes to mind is a blog that promoted Neo-Nazism. Most people here are pretty broad minded as to blogs unless they contain stolen material, are pornographic, racist or defamatory.

Here at Blog Catalog we do not have walls.
At Facebook they do have walls.
        I am confused.
Are you referring to Blog Catalog?
Or are you referring to Facebook?

This is the link to the BC TOS
        www.blogcatalog.com/tos
This is the link to the Facebook equivalent

  13. surveygirl46
Yes ST - I happen to agree with you there. I agree that violence and hatred and semantics, all that is wrong and not funny. There is a line one crosses, I agree. That is my personal opinion. As gross and unfunny as I find that material, others for some reason like it.

So now my question to you would be, where do you draw the line as to what is permitted?

I am not attacking you, i am just asking a question. Is there a place for that sort of material somewhere in cyberspace? Was it reviewed by someone at the site beforehand? Did it just go sliding by?

I mean, some people are bound to report that obviously.

The reason I ask this is because I have come across sites similar to what you bring up. I don't go in because to me, they're wrong.

But i guess the question would be again - How were they allowed in in the first place?
    1. Stillthinking
Actually, those blogs are in violation of BC TOS. When I reported the Neo-Nazi blog, I made it clear that BC should not affiliate itself with blogs that promote racial supremacy. I also organized my BC friends to report it as well. We do not want people like that in our online community because they have access to our blogs and our networks. That is unacceptable.

My guess is that the blog was submitted to BC as something entirely different. Once it was accepted, it was then revamped to reflect it's true niche. Once your blog has been accepted admin, they no longer monitor your content unless it begins receiving complaints and reports about it.

BC owners Angie and TonyB are extremely busy people and BC is a very active website. They and their admins can't watch every single blog and comment made on the forums. That is why they depend on the community to self-monitor itself. As of late, I have noticed that a few members have been abusing this privilege and using BC forums to attack other members. This is when admin should be notified to discipline and enforce the TOS.
  14. surveygirl46
And you are absolutely correct in notifying BC and reporting them. They came in under a guise and then proved to be something else. They operate on hate and mean intentions. His (my friends) blog was nothing remotely like that at all.

Ok so here's some pet peeves in no particular order:

    excessive body hair
when people ask to borrow something they truly intend on keeping
people's use of the non-word conversate (this goes along with its bastard fellows conversating and conversated...oh lets throw in irregardless while I am on on the subject)
when people are late without proper warning
when people call and ask me what I am doing (yeah hello I am talking on the phone to your stooooopid arse) or ask if I am awake (yeah because I haven't mastered my answer while sleep techique just yet)
  20. funispower
I hate to admit it, but I get a little frustrated sometimes when like you mentioned, someone comes to your thread and reports the crap out of you because they disagree with your opinion/don't like that you are getting views in a way that they do not approve of and the thread gets closed b/c admins don't take time to read through it. that's just my $0.02 USD
  21. surveygirl46
Thank you funispower, that is EXACTLY the kind of crap I was referring to when i started this discussion.
    1. funispower
      you're not alone friend:)
  22. surveygirl46
Ok you're on my friendlist and stuck there until you remove me LOL

I hate when something happens and it's like uh oh hotdog, and then I'm all like FREE FISH! and then I pass out on the floor. Yeah, I hate that.

    1. FreakSmack
yes yes you know when u like pooch you know it's like pooch and then it like the monkeeeeee
  27. wolfmechanics
I am so disgusted by people who taste food they are cooking and then stick the spoon back into the pot to stir or something after they already put it to their lips (with sauce, for instance). That is something I would never do in a million years unless I knew for sure I was only cooking for myself.
    1. Stillthinking
Then you don't ever want to eat at a restaurant, because they do it all day long in the kitchen. And it's not just one restaurant, its EVERY RESTAURANT.
    2. Rory
@Still ... You're absolutely correct! No self-respecting chef would let anything made in his kitchen NOT be tasted to see if it's good enough to serve.

Just ask CookingAsshole! I'm surprised there's anything left to serve when he's cooking! What with all the testing he does!!
  28. surveygirl46
    EWW...new peeves I hadn't thought of before..
