What are Forums for ?

Hi Guys ,
I wonder anyone of you are also forum addicts , if you are you surely are aware of the softwares like vbulletin , Invisionboard . Recently vbulletin is coming up with vB 3.7 with several new features .
I have made a post around it , as to what forum softwares are meant for and are going towards here .

    Personally, I hate VBulletin because it's the design is too generic, boring. But the user reputation and ranking is waaaaaaay ahead of its counterparts.

    I like the forum BC is using here, any mods willing to enlighten what platform they're using? I guess it's custom..

    The only closest forum software I found similar to the simplicity here is the Numinu release by Fireboard, for Joomla CMS. And Vanilla too..

    you can request me for designing your vbulletin lol - thats what i sell

    Keeping that aside , i have seen vanilla , it is simple and quite pluggable within other sites/ apps.
