What are some of the best ways to attract attention?

I have always been on the SEO side of site promotion. How do you social bloggers attract the attention of readers from forums such as this? It is skill I wouldn't mind acquiring. : )

    By posting lots of simplistic things: What is your favorite car? Did you like the inauguration? Things which everyone can relate to and wants to talk about. A little provocative helps too, Do you belive in... Do it consistently every day or every few dasy.
