I'm an experienced Wordpress user, and I just converted over to GoDaddy Blogcast. Big mistake! I'm going with Wordpress this weekend and will totally revamp my blog. So...

What are your favorite, best, most reliable, most needed Wordpress plugins?

Thanks, blogging experts! :-)

OOPS! I forgot to say I use Defensio for spam. (It's just as good as Akismet)

The Google XML Sitemap plugin does make a difference.

The following is what I use on my website at www.ryanpaul.ca :

    Advanced Category Excluder
This plugin helps you to manage your content, RSS feeds, sidebar widgets, and fine tune where you want to display your posts, pages, links, link categories, or hide. I used this to stop my 'Youtube' category from showing up on my index page.

Akismet - works splendidly. No need to check it or anything like that!

    Audio player
Once in a while I want to embed a single mp3 into a post - this does it perfectly.

    Broken Link Checker
I use this to check custom fields which have links in it for a news site I run.

    Custom-MoreLink
I use this to take off the #id from the more link!

    Dagon Design Form Mailer
I always found this more secure and easier than cforms.

    Dagon Design Sitemap Generator
Again, very easy to setup n use.

    Get Recent Comments
This was mainly for myself so I didn't have to keep checking the admin area for recent comments.

    Google XML Sitemaps
    For obvious reasons!

    In Series
Originally installed this to easily link a group of posts about 'Keeping Up Appearances'.

    Limit Login Attempts
At time of writing this doesn't work with 2.8, but when it does work it is very very good for helping stop hack attempts.

    NextGEN Gallery
The best all-around photo gallery script out there!

    Paged Navigation
Puts the numbers for navigation - makes it a whole lot easier.

    Platinum SEO Pack
Used to be good, but I'm probably going to replace this with Headspace2.

    RB Internal Links
Aside from ease of use, I also use it in case I ever change my permalinks I don't have to go through all posts.

    Redirection
Automatically adds a redirect if you change a post's permalink, and a whole bunch of other types of redirecting.

    Search Permalink
Purely cosmetic - I hate the search query string showing up in Google.

    Slimbox Plugin
I use this for Nextgen Gallery because Lightbox is ridiculously bloated.

    Subscribe2
I used to use Feedburner by email... but I installed this so I have more control over my subscriber list.

    Viper's Video Quicktags
All around ease of use for inserting Google Video, Vimeo, Youtube etc.

    Wordbook (by Robert Tsai)
This is a brilliant plugin - I get LOTS of traffic from my facebook. This auto adds an update on your Facebook Wall everytime you post.

    WP Extra Template Tags
I use this because it contains one or two tags I think should be in the WordPress core.

      I like:

Related posts plugin. It helps generate internal links within your site.

Twitter Updater because it sends a Tweet to your followers whenever you update your blog.

Also, go to Feedburner and set up an account and burn a feed, then activate the email feed. Put both buttons on your blog.

All in one SEO Pack. Go to Courtneytuttle.com for a good article on how to actually set it up and use it. Lots of great articles over there.

I am also beginning to get into creating my own wordpress widgets. I have (IMHO) a cool paypal donate widget that I created as well as a custom Feedburner feed button and email button. I created it with Nvu and inserted it into a text widget...and bob's your uncle.

I will be writing soon about GoDaddy Blogcast and not to use it.

I don't use WP plugins because they are good or wonderful, I use what my blog really needs. Every plugins is great in their own ways.

@othellobloke you have not close the bold tag

As there's a new version of wordpress out it's important to check plugin choices for compatibility. You can do that here:
    Plugins/Plugin Compatibility/2.8
    codex.wordpress.org/Plugins/Plugin_Compatibility/2.8

    Wordpress Plugin Directory

I am really liking the results I am getting with Jeff Johnson's Traffic Getting SEO Plugin that you can get free at www.undergroundtraininglab.com/798/tgsp-wp28/. It goes in and configures your other plugins like All In One SEO and others and suggests a few to add (or it did for me). Everything is configured to work together automatically. I got increased traffic immediately. Jeff's blog is a good one to follow. He gives great information. He is selling a coaching program, of course, but gives out tons of good information for free... That is not an affiliate link or anything... just passing on some info.
