Not everyone is here to promote their blog. And Dane got to wondering just what people's goals are in using social networking. Please take our poll and share your thoughts. If we haven't listed Your reason, you can add it. Please, share your opinions

What, with a face like that?

And who's doing all that dang voting for you? Enemies? I could use enemies like that.
    2. crkian
lol, that would be entrecard users after part 4 of the comment for some credits thing
  2. chaindrop
lol. seems like at the very, very least you have some buddies on a certain IRC channel

(remembering that once again I completely forgot to sign Alan to my chaindrop post...some people said Dane and I looked a bit a like but honestly I don't see it...though I think we sound different enough in posts that you could tell which one of us was on the acct....could you tell?)
  4. crkian
I cant tell, could be because you are talking about the same things with chaindrop threads and not on your niches in other threads.

per usual Dane knows what he's talking about when he told me to Be Sure to sign my name when using the chaindrop acct.

    My goals are to:

    a) forge some friendships with people I would otherwise never have known.
    b) get some trsffic to my blog and with luck, some will be interested in point a.
    c) discover some cool resources and garnish some pointers.

    Pretty simple idea I have

Simple is a good place to be with this stuff. We have a tendency to over complicate it and to let the tech get in the way as well.

The more simply we can state our purpose (whatever that is, there is no right or wrong here) the more likely we are to be able to achieve those goals.

Agreed the old KISS principle works every time.

Is more than one choice possible in the poll?

And does your poll really consider all the possibilities? What about people who are just plain interested in the phenomenon of social networking?
    1. DaneMorgan
The poll is set up so that you can add your own response if you like, Mark.

And can any poll on anything really consider **all** the possibilities?
    2. clioandme
Didn't notice the ability to add my own response.

The second part of your answer is a stock response I get from many. I usually only make criticisms when I feel an obvious answer has been left out, obvious in this case, because of the very existence of the Blog Straight Talk group, of which you are a member.
    3. clioandme
Interesting. Since adding my own answer, I can only see the results, not the poll. I cleared my cache and there is the same problem. I switched from Safari to Firefox and the problem continues. So maybe the problem is real and not just on my end?

One vote per customer. It works on cookies and IPs to show you the updated results of polls you've already voted in. This way you don't forget and try to vote again only to hit a message telling you that you can't do that.

Did you note that I actually mentioned you *in* the article, Mark? I felt that if you wanted to participate in the poll you would phrase your response better than I could, so I left that option to you. And of course, if you had not wanted to respond, the option wouldn't be nearly so necessary since there are very very few people likely to find our little blog who's interest is so purely academic and theoretical as yours.

And one that I really should have anticipated but didn't was "I don't know". Sometimes I'm not nearly so smart as I'd like to pretend I am.

"Is more than one choice possible in the poll?"

I missed this part of the question.

Lamentably, no. I've only found one polling plugin that provides for multiple guess, and it was one of the worst, most dodgy plugins I've ever installed.

This one is about the best I've used, but lacks what i would consider a mandatory feature in allowing for multiple selection polls.

Hi Dane. Yes, I was surprised by the mention, but I suppose choosing a vocal contrarian from BC makes sense. Thank you.

Good to hear that there is nothing wrong with the poll. I had hoped to be able to see how it looked afterwards, because this is the first time I've seen a poll where readers could add a question, but i guess I already did, since there was already one user-added question before I voted (the aforementioned "I don't know").
