What can i do to increase my rankings?

I checked on my ranking and it's so low. I wonder what could be done to improve it. When i do pings I get a lot of error, is this one reason why my page doesn't seem to be indexed? most especially with yahoo and msn.
I have no PR in google. What does this mean?

Your in the same boat as me, my alexa ranking is 3million+ actually it's closer to 4million, anyway I ping almost every day and for some reason the yahoo one always gives errors. I use ping-o-matic and feedshark to ping,when I first pinged I saw an increase of about 100 extra visitors but after a week or so it doesn't seem to work as well, don't know why. Maybe I should only ping once a week or something but I read you should ping every time you update your blog but no more than once per day.
Sorry can't help you but will keep my eye on this topic to see if anyone can help us out.

Look up the google sandbox effect. I know I have been at it almost 3 months now, and have 800 so so backlinks, and post everyday, and still have no PR. I have read of this so called sandbox effect, but I have no clue if it actually exists, or how to get out of it if it does. -
ohh i see. Actually worpress has auto pinger to, but when i update maybe two posts i ping using either bloggers.com or ping-o-matic. I hope someone could help us out

page rank isn't updated frequently i believe it's quarterly so probably by January you'll see new rank -
What do you mean your rankings are low? Like in Search engine rankings?
The keywords in the title of your posts maybe very competitive. However it does help to have longer titles to catch 'long tail' searches. One or two word titles will have a harder time ranking especially if its well used.
Pinging is good, I use autopinger.com, but it looks like ping o matic might be easier to use for me. I don't get too many visitors yet, but I've been doing alot of traffic homework so I'll see if I can post back sometime with a traffic to do list.
PR is Page Rank. It takes a long time, and quite alot of back links to get 1 page rank (about 1k links). Also just letting you know that Google hasn't updated their page ranks in quite a while so don't be disheartened if you don't have page ranks. All the new sites currently won't regardless of traffic.
Anchor text is also very important for search rankings. People who link you with 'click here' or 'link' basically give you an anchor text for 'click here. Guess what your now competing against Adobe (google click here).
Moneymechanics looks like you have quite a bit of back links in yahoo, about 2.5k worth.
Tony you have 1 with blogcatalog, and your other one has 69 links. You need to build them =). Start with other blog directories (free ones), and then move on to commenting on other people's blog posts. Don't make it too spammy, and try to contribute to the post.

I have noticed a HUGE change in traffic when a certain photo on my blog attracted everybody and their mother---and it was a silly picture of two people dressing up for halloween----I guess this month is going to be high traffic. Post photos on your blog. Link it to your site and you'll see a mass amount of traffic. I never knew that it stemmed from "images" until my sitemeter read the referrals. They were all from "images"....sadly, not for the content. But you want "good" traffic, not traffic that's going to come in and walk back out, you know? -

Hum I read some blogs yesterday which gave me the impression google had updated their pagerank. -
Google decided to change the page ranks for many sites, and thats the talk of many in blogosphere at this moment. Why is this news important? Supposedly many sites got hit with a page rank decrease. The rumor of it is the ones that got hit, were the ones that sold links on their site to pass on page rank. (ie deliberately not using rel=nofollow in the links to give links google juice)
How does this affect blogs? Well alot of bloggers make money by doing pay per post etc depending on their page ranks. Alot of people also make money selling Text link ads. Decreased page rank means decreased ad value to them.
They seem to have hit many other sites like forbes.com which is now pagerank 3, but its a high authority site. I haven't seen a comment about people's ranks going up yet. -
Are you indexed? The best way is to submit your RSS to Google.

what are pings exactly?
I will get a ping comment notice if a site links to a post, but not if they link to my site and sometimes not even if they link to a post... why? -
You can ask for someone a big ranking to optmize your blog. It's a time consuming process and it costs some money, just check my rankings it's really good now but it took 3 months and it will be better on the next year. I'm kicking the google search engine, I discovered the secret. HAHAHAHA -
It's just the way of it... isn't it? I mean not everyone can be high ranked, some have to go down if others will go up... its all a game right?
I just started a freewebs.com page alittle over a week ago, I'm not even sure how i would begin to climb the page rank ladder... where do you begin? should you wait til after you have everything on the site going? or should you start right away? linking to many low PR sites will even hurt your rankings more..choose who to link and where to put your links...
