Its very obvious what he meant

    4. Arnous81
LOL!! sensico where in michigen are you? Detroit?
    5. sensico
I'm in Roseville, but if you were in MI, I would take you up north to see the beautiful landscape and maybe go camping or something. Hope you're an outdoorsy guy.
    6. Arnous81
Im an outdoorsy morning guy and a "homely" night guy.Unless Im in the mood to party.
    7. sensico
nevermind then, you're so annoyingly complicated, whatever happened to going with the flow
    8. Arnous81
Sensico...I think youll make a good tour guide.Just take me wherever you think is good and Ill be happy.Im not that tough to please.

    Chicago.

It's a large city--not quite as large as New York, but still one of the largest in the country and culturally diverse. But, unlike New York, it is in the midwest--a large urban area smack in the middle of the "heartland". You will see history, art, noted museums, etc.; parks, outdoor festivals and city life; small ethnic-centered neighborhoods where mom-and-pop stores and restaurants predominate and languages other than English are the norm; a huge and bustling business center and a busy blue-collar industry all in one place. I can't think of any place in the United States where you would get as broad a spectrum of U.S. people, places and lifestyles--and you'd only have to travel about 90 miles to find rural midwestern life.
    1. Arnous81
Ok that sounds good Ill keep it as an option.
  3. sensico
Well, I wouldn't want you to visit boring ol' Michigan, so I would just say that you should goto Chicago, New York is such a typical place nearly all people from other countries goto visit when in the US. Nothing there but people that wont say hi to you on the street.
  4. msbaby
If you like music, it's hard to beat New Orleans for dixieland jazz, Memphis for Blues or Nashville for country music. Could you be more specific as to what you are looking for in the way of food, entertainment or sightseeing opportunities?
    1. dosox
Guess he's looking for some cookie's
    2. Arnous81
I just want one place that is diverse enough to have everything there is in America on one place if that makes any sense.
    3. sensico
You cant unless you goto Vegas. But America is so big and each region has something uniquely special about it and collectively they all make up whats best about America.

    Boston is the Bomb

The Museums, the Colleges, the Boston Common, the Fenway, baseball games, The Fleet Center
for basketball games, Newbury Street shopping center of small businesses. Faneuil Hall,
    historic and marketplace shopping center.

Boston is a great little city that you can literally walk all the way through to get around
and enjoy without having to take a taxi everywhere you go. There's enough here to see and enjoy.

I've been to Chicago and like it there to but it's very windy there, other than that I love Chicago
and New York but you need a taxi to get around in both these cities.
    1. Arnous81
I have a couple of friends in Boston.Boston sounds good Plus Ill know who to call if I want someone to take me out
    2. harveyavatar
I've always been attracted by Chicago, but never been. I did go to St Louis, which has more to offer than you'd expect (home of the blues, Arch, Indian reservations), although still on the sleepy side.

To live, I'd agree with Jeunelle on Boston, but that's hearsay.

New York is pretty awesome, but im surprised nobody has mention Miami. Especially if you are from a cold climate, now is the best time to visit there.
    1. Arnous81
My impression of Miami is one I got off TV: Girls wearing shorts and roller blading by the beach
  7. hatingtherain
New York is dirty and too big. Go to the Pacific Northwest, where there is fresh air, and way nicer people.
    1. Arnous81
You just want me to go there cause youre there!! I know you!

Seriously though, you know the only picture i have of NY is the one I see in movies.I dont even know what Pacific Northwest is.But if it's worth visiting then why not.
    2. hatingtherain
I wouldnt go to ny if someone paid me a million dollars(ok..mabe then)it scares the crap out of me.

THE pnw would actually probably bore you to tears. There's nothing here but a bunch of trees and cold smelly beaches.
    3. pointlessbanter
It isn't that bad... I have been going there since August like once a month or more.

I prefer Boston to it though...

Honestly man if you can do it... Just come here, rent a car and drive cross country. Screw staying in one city for a week.
    4. Arnous81
Driving around I would need a month not a week to make it worth it.

Something else that I just thought of.Im an Arab. And I think there might be places that are more sensitive towards than than others.Or am I mistaken.I dont look it but it does show in my accent.
  8. jan4insight
If you can't afford those other big cities, you can always come to Albuquerque. New Mexico, that is. It really is part of the U.S.

And we've been having lots of sunshine this winter!
    1. Arnous81
I gotta see some pics first
  9. MadMadMargo
New Orleans, especially during Mardi Gras or Jazz Fest, is a great experience. The "Big Easy" is full of multi-cultural history, has tons of affordable activities, wonderful food and good times. New Orleans is a major center for music; it is the birthplace of Jazz. A sweet blend of European, African and Latin American sounds along with Cajun, Zydeco and Delta Blues can be found in the numerous clubs, bars, etc.

I am heading there in April for Jazz Fest, 10 days full of incredible music. Of the hundreds of acts performing, this year's line up includes Aretha Franklin, Joe Cocker, Dave Matthews, Tony Bennett and Dr. John. Here's a link: www.nojazzfest.com/
    1. Arnous81
That sounds so cool.I guess I gotta visit more than one city.
    2. msbaby
And let's don't forget the food. The food is fantastic in New Orleans but the Rendezvous in Memphis can't be beat for ribs.
    3. carsonfb
I second New Orleans. I like it so much that I plan on retiring just outside of there in another 30 years or so.

If you go, you have to eat at Cafe du Monde and The Gumbo Shop.
  10. rfburnhertz
    Denver, Co.
We were just voted the best city in America to live in, obviously that means we are the best to visit as well. :-)

Where you go depends upon what kind of experience you are looking for.
    1. sensico
I wanna go to Denver, I might even move out there after I graduate.
    2. rfburnhertz
It's a nice place to live.
Good weather, city, mountains, ski/snowboard, fish, hunt...
  11. ArsenicCookies
Methuen MA- its a stones throw from everything, and it's like going back in time. It looks almost the same as it did in the 1800's and has been beautifully maintained. It is one of the few places where 99% of the people still make eye contact and say hi, you can leave your car unlocked, and if you get lost people will line up to help you find your way, but not without feeding you and "getting you in out of the cold to get a nice cup of coffee" first.

    Look how pretty www.cityofmethuen.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=110...
    1. Arnous81
Are you serious? I didnt imagine there were places like that.
    2. ArsenicCookies
ah yes, it is just like that. So sweet. Eventually I will drop half a mil to live there so I can raise my boys in that awesome environment. I used to live there and was never happier

lol my browser spell check keeps changing there to their. wtf?
  12. sensico
ok, how about San Francisco, California you can ride the cable car thingy, if you've been bad you can goto Alcatraz, you can visit the famous bridge, they have lots of fun bars to goto and its just a fun place to be.
    1. Arnous81
Yep Cali is also an option but the thing is, it sooo far from here! I think its an 21 hour flight.I tend to get dizzy on a 2 hour flight.

Sorry sensico i know im confusing you.But I appreciate what youre doin
  13. pillownaut
San Francisco is definitely amazing. I grew up there so I hate Cable Cars and wish they would get them off the darned roads. Also never understood the appeal of Alcatraz, LOL... but culturally, SF is a great city with stunning architecture, wide varieties of foods and events, and of course the Golden Gate Bridge is the most photographed structure in the world. Also have the world's largest all-digital Planetarium, zoos and museums, earthquake and gold rush history, incredible night-life... and a short drive north has the best of all: giant redwood trees. They are truly a sight to behold
  14. mikeny07
New York City no doubt. You have everything in NYC that you have in every other city in this country. Wait until the summer though when the weather is warmer.

If anything just go for the food alone. We have the best pizza places in the country here. Pizza was first sold in NYC.

Every food from every culture you can find here. Not on Long Island where I live now, but in NYC you can eat something different every day.

NYC has the nicest people in the country. Don't believe what you hear about not being friendly. Yeah, most people won't take anything and be direct with you, but that does not mean unfriendly people.
    1. chicky401
It's funny you mention the pizza, a friend and I were just saying last night that we got to go to NY again soon as they have the best pizza... Hey wait a minute you weren't listening to our conversation were you?
  15. chicky401
NYC and Las Vegas. Not just for the gambling in Vegas I hear there is really nice things to see, want to go. Then you can take a helicopter ride with a glass floor into the grand canyon NYC I know is a nice experience it is dirty in spots but it is an experience. Used to be there a few times a week.
  16. Arnous81
Ok now..whose paying for my ticket?
    1. sensico
*...and all Arnous heard was a pin-drop*
  17. BennyGreenberg
I thought you were headed for MD?
    1. Arnous81
      Whats MD?
    2. chicky401
Hey MD sounds better then here, it is at least a little warmer then here
  18. DeadRooster
Well, I live in Southern California, but I'd have to say visit Las Vegas. It's a blast...
    1. MadMadMargo
      oops! wrong place
    1. sensico
      yay HOOKERS!!!
    2. chicky401
Hey at least the hookers there have to be better looking then the ones that are in my town. We got some real $5 winners
    3. MadMadMargo
3.7 million dollar "virgin" (yeah, right) hookers!
    4. chicky401
LMAO They really are $5 hookers by me. Sad Then again the guy has to be desperate to do any of them! They are $5 for a reason!!! Vegas recently made it illegal but I believe they are still legal in Reno. At least when it was legal in Vegas they were required to go for health exams frequently.
    5. hatingtherain
Yeah Arnous. You gotta vistit the Mustang Ranch. When you get to Nevada, just walk around asking everyone "hey, I'm looking for The Mustang Ranch" anyone will be happy to give you directions.
    6. sensico
oh yeah I saw the Mustang Ranch on HBO I think. My favorite is Demi, but nevermind my preferences I checked out their employment application and they only want tasteful photos submitted, its a scam, Arnous needs a more raunchy slam-bam kind of place.
  19. mikeny07
    Arnous, go over here:

    travel.yahoo.com/p-travelguide-191501980-new_york_city_vacations-i;_ylt=Atj...

Yahoo has a great guide on best places to visit in NYC. Any other city in world also. People who visit rate the best places to stay and eat at and so on.

You can just print out places in the city to visit and plan a vacation.
  20. Arnous81
This is way more confusing than I expected. Can you all please decide on one place and let me know when youre done

Seriously though, I might actually come some time.
  21. cooper
I would choose New York if you have the time, I lived there for 4 yeas and I still miss it,but it is rather large so if you are only there for a few days you will have to prioritize what you want to see. It is actually a much safer city than most already mentioned and though it is dirty it is the dirt of history urbanity and mass humanity.

I am more frightened in D.C. than I ever was in New York, though D.C. is a good small city if you want specifically to see some great historical museums, they also have theaters and good restaurant and if you are on a time limit you will see more o the city than you would NY.
    1. dinsquared
LOL. What on earth were you frightened of in DC?
  22. mikeny07
Most people who spread false information on NYC have never been there.
  23. Arnous81
Most opinions have been NYC so far.But I dont know anyone there and Im not sure its a good place to go alone.
  24. ophase
I like New York in June
    How about youuu??
    1. sensico
      sure so when we goin'
  25. LynneaUrania
It really doesn't matter what city you choose to visit. Today you will find a lot of diversity. If you go this time of year, it's best to go to one in California or Florida because the weather is better right now. But keep in mind that most people consider California another country because so many of us are strange.
    1. busylizzy
You will have to stay way south in California to keep warm. The ocean currents come from the north (Alaska) and it can get cold, too. Where I grew up (Ventura county) we had fog and cold.
    2. LynneaUrania
The fog can be nice too. I enjoy it. But it sure beats the ice and snow in other parts of the country. Most of ours stays nicely on the mountains where it belongs.
  26. busylizzy
On another thread you mentioned you like the watch The Office. Perhaps you could visit Scranton.
  27. ModelElaine
Has anyone said Las Vegas yet?
  28. csiunatc
If I could only visit one city, i'd make one as small as possible.

I've had much more rewarding experiences visiting smaller towns than I have visiting the big ones. Quite frankly, there isn't much difference between New York and London, or Sydney as far as experiences go.

If you want a real experience, hit the smaller places.
    1. HollytheHousewife
      That's sooo true csi
    2. cooper
It's interesting how people see things so differently, having lived in NY for 4 years, and having grown up in Australia my father having done engineering an architectural work in Sydney, and having been to London a lot as a kid and spending 6 weeks there freshman year of college I couldn't but find them more different.
  29. HollytheHousewife
Ya definately have to visit the MEMPHIS 10 "TN"
Good food, good music, and good times. Beale is the Bomb baby!!!!
  30. deoangel
I would say Chicago. Its just like New York but less congested!
  31. lnclark1950
Fly into Kansas City, MO but then drive down to the Ozarks. Kansas City is a big city with a small town feel. Kind of too laid back for some.
  32. roentarre
    New York!

The best city in the world!
  33. justsaver
wherever you land. A city on one of the coasts makes sense
  34. TigerXtrm
    Las Vegas! No contest!
  35. Arnous81
Ok I thought about what I want:

    Nice weather
    Good food
    Cool Events
    Friendly non-judgemental people
Interesting things to see.Im keeping this general.

Anything that combines all 5 would be good for me.
    1. sensico
      San Fransisco it is then
  36. ranist22
What about New Orleans? (I've never been there). Have you read 'Interview with the Vampire' by Anne Rice or seen the film? (Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt). The book was great and made me want to go there.
    1. LGramlich
I live in the area & may be the only person here who thinks NOLA's overrated. Unless you're an alcoholic, maybe...
    2. ranist22
      Oh, dreams...
  37. melindaville
San Francisco is the best city in the U.S. hands down. And if you come, I will show you a great time! (Although I only live there 50 percent of the time).
  38. LGramlich
Niagara Falls, NY. Lots of fun (if "touristy,") stuff to do, Canada's just a stone's throw away (Toronto's just over an hour's drive,) & you get to see "the Falls" (although there's SO much more there than just "the Falls.")
For all 5 of your requirements, avoid visiting outside of May-Sept.
  39. Anok
I'd say New York, Boston or Sand Diego.
  40. Lifeposter
New York city is one of the most exciting cities in the world. I thought it would be too much like London but it really isn't.
  41. perezstudios
Stay Away! We are infected and need to be quarantined!
  42. Cyclenewbie
It depends what you want/like. NYC, San Francisco, San Diego are great for me. Las Vegas - disappointing but Ok if you go in the helicopter over the Canyon. Texas - if you like wide open spaces and horses.
  43. dinsquared
Come to DC. You'll be able to see much more of it than New York City. It's a very pretty city, there's lots of history here. It's one of the country's most walkable cities; anyplace you can't walk to there's train and bus. Our museums are free, we have every type of food NYC has, plus the White House and the Capital, and we have theater to see at the Kennedy Center and the National Theater.
