someone told me to put vicks on my feet

I stick with the green stuff, Nyquil.
    1. Epicharis
vicks on your feet?! how odd!

Not sure we get nyquil in the uk
    2. aningeniousname
Nyquil is just like Nightnurse I think.
    3. Epicharis
I shee...maybe I'll get me some daynurse...I think nightnurse (there's no prescription for me...) might be counter-productive, work-wise!
  2. aningeniousname
You can't go wrong with the old fashioned hot toddy, whiskey lemonade and honey.
    1. Epicharis
sounds revolting...but I would try it if I had any whisky! Damnit! Why do I live in a student house?!
    2. aningeniousname
A good hot curry works too.
    3. Epicharis
      now...that I can do!
    4. aningeniousname
Get the hottest one you can stand it really clears the snot out.
    5. Epicharis
      yummy....

I think I'll make a really hot green curry...4 green chillis, 2 red...that ought to do it!
    6. aningeniousname
Bloody hell that will not only take the snot away but also the roof of your mouth.
    7. Epicharis
I eat curry like an asian...my asian friends are always surprised!
    8. aningeniousname
I eat curry like a Yorkshire man, I sweat profusely and keep wishing there was pastry involved.
    9. Epicharis
hahaha! hmm...curry pie...I'm sure that would be good...
    10. aningeniousname
You can actually buy a curry pie here, they do a Balti pie in my local chippy.
    11. Epicharis
hahaha! I really want chips now... why is the chippy a half hour walk away?!
    12. aningeniousname
It's so you have a chance of burning the chip calories off.
    13. Epicharis
that defeats the whole point of having the chips...
    14. JaydenVasara
shot of whiskey....it works and it's no worse than that green nyquil!
  3. Stillthinking
I really hope that you have your dissertation started already...

      Enough BC! Get to work!

      *smacks Siuil on the hand*
    3. Epicharis
but...I'm here looking for cold remedies! *achoooo*

and stop hitting me, damn you!
    4. Stillthinking
Take some non-drowsy Dayquil and get back to work.

You are kidding! 2 weeks to write a dissertation? LOL!~ That sounds like a great movie plot. It took me close to a year to write mine!

I like drinking hot tea with lemon and honey. And allowing myself to be sick in bed and watch old "I Love Lucy" reruns. She always cheers me up.

    Good luck with the dissertation!
    1. Epicharis
      it's only a 10,000 word diss...though I haven't exactly finished (started) the research yet....

...how I want to lie in bed and watch tv
  5. Epicharis
Seems no one has a miracle cure for me, eh? alas...glad I bought that box of tissues!

Gargle with warm salt water 2-3 times daily. Try to pass the salt solution through your nasal passage also to free your breathing and sanitize the region.
    1. Epicharis
oh yikes...sounds horrible! I'll give it a go, but if I throw up you're for it!
    2. avecchioni
It's very soothing--I read that many opera singers use the same routine to clear their voice of any clogged nasal tones.

Pro-crast-ination! *sung to the tune of "Anticipation" by Carly Simon*
    1. Epicharis
      sssshhhhhh!

Jägermeister. If it doesn't work, at least you'll feel better.

i usually go out with friends and do shots of vodka. i kid you not. if i'm insufferably stuffy, i use some form of nasal irrigation (salt, warm water, up the nose); it's gross as hell and really works your gag reflexes, but it's magic.

Wish I could help, but I haven't had a cold in decades. An ounce of prevention (leading a largely child-free, anti-social life,) is worth a pound of cure, I guess. *L*

I read it on here last week and tried it over the weekend when I felt a flu flaring up.

Drinking straight white vinegar. I tasted nasty but it did work
  12. jflower36
Drink lots of green tea, and even consider gargling with it. I know that may sound weird, but there was a study that confirmed that gargling with green tea helped to prevent the flu.

Zinc lozenges are supposed to be good. The best advice anyone can give though is to get more sleep.

Steam inhalation with essential oils works wonders for colds and sinus headaches and is a better solution to naturally clearing congested sinuses.

That's a good one TT....steam always helps me too. I haven't tried eucalyptus or peppermint oil but I will remember that for the next time I have a cold.
  16. Arcticulates
Nothing.... It will pass soon enough, meanwhile it is getting rid of the toxins built up in your body.. So you can live and finish up your dissertation!

    I chug vinegar.

I drink warm water every now and then. But make sure that there's a bathroom near you. hehehehe...
