I'm looking at the avatars here and noticed a large number of the members have red hair. I thought this was kind of odd. I then looked it up and found that only a few per cent of people have red hair. In North America is less than 1 out of 25, or under 4%.
What color hair do you have?
What's left of mine is brown.

I am a fake redhead, but a redhead in spirit. My real haircolor is sort of a confused blondish-reddish-brown.
    1. CrotchetyOldMan
I doubt the Crotchety Old Lady even remembers what color her hair was. I think it's currently Beauty Shop Generic # 7.
    2. ThriftShopRomantic
My own mom had forgotten, it's been red so long.

Generic #7 is all the rage.
    3. CrotchetyOldMan
She went red back in the 90's and has stuck with that. I told her, just let it grow out, and be whatever color it should be. She started to cry. Is that a good thing?
    4. crpitt
The mum says the same about my hair.

Crying is not a good thing and the missus has excellent hair colourage
    5. ThriftShopRomantic
      Agreed. Fake redheads unite!

      Huzzah!

My hair has always been brown, except that unfortunate time I dyed it blonde and had it dyed back brown. My father's family is red headed.
  4. legbamel
Mine is a dark brown that gets sun-bleached to orange in the summer. I dye it a somewhat darker auburn to tone it down, when that starts to happen. It's not a flattering color.
  5. aningeniousname
Mine is dark brown, But when I was about 17 I dyed it peroxide blonde and it looked awful because I am olive skinned and I had this bright blonde hair and big black eyebrows.
  6. ChicaX
I've been every color on the box, but my natural hair is dark brown.
  7. Jeunelle
Mine use to be more golden dark brown and now it's more dark brown red.
I think the red is more visible because of me drinking, that must of done it.
But usually when you are much younger you may have golden hair and then later it just changes.
I don't like the smell of dyes so I don't bother plus that stuff goes down into your other
"hair down below" and I don't want to dye that too, so I don't touch the stuff.
These days I am more into reality and am satisfied with the color it is.
  8. dotartdude
I have dark brown hair, but my beard is red with some grey.
  9. Theresa111
Medium to medium golden brown. Alas, there is grey too ... But not for long. I will be going to the salon.

Dark brown, with an optional gray streak ...depending on which way I brush it. (Now you see it, now you don't) - Nards
  12. Ravyn
Brown, never been dyed, never will be.
  13. ShockPlusFade
I used to have black. Now it has a slight caramel tint because I lightened it with hydrogen peroxide.
  14. crpitt
Hmmm not sure what colour it is naturally.

    It use to be
    me on swing
    but now its
    My red hair
Well actually darker red than in those pictures.

      No I killed him.
  15. aannttiiiittnnaa
Darkish brown, with some natural red highlights...which is my normal hair colour but took me time to accept it...

...has had many other incarnations, bright pink, green, black with red & yellow, lilac, orange... thankfully it has survived & been off the hair dye for many a year.
  16. lulubelleb
The wig I wear daily is red. My natural hair is darkish brown with some red, blonde and gray mixed in...or at least that's what it was pre-chemo. Have no idea what it will be when I'm done with treatment.

My mother's a natural red head, as was her father.
  17. seaglassorganic
Brown- or as Mom puts it= Dirty dish water brown..nice
  18. globalgirl
I still have jet black hair... with a strand here or there going gray.. and then I simply pluck it out The thought of coloring my hair doesn't seem very appetizing to me...

    ...ask me in 5 years..
  19. chatblanc
-when born the few fine hairs I had were a carroty color
-growing up it was what they said was "strawberry blonde", code for we don't know what color that is
-as an adult my natural color has darkened into a mousy red which of course I take up a notch with coloring to red-auburn

    Red Rocks!
  20. LGramlich
Mine's mousey brown with ever-increasing gray. I'm going gray with pride, however.
  21. pumpkinlights
Medium to dark brown. Always been that way.

  23. Arcticulates
Blonde with a few brown and red strands here and there, but it is getting whiter and whiter as the years fly by.
  24. FineWhiner
Red as a child, went strawberry blonde into my teens, then it went drab and I gave it some help with blonde highlights for so many years I had no idea what color it was. In my early 40's I decided to let it grow out and see what it looked like. I figured if I didn't do it then all I would see would be gray. I havent colored my hair in over 10 years, it is natural platinum blonde. So I went from flaming red hair as a child to natural platinum, strange, huh?!?

My Mom was blonde until she was about 18 at which point her hair started streaking in brown and remained that way until she went gray.
  25. Sway
I had blue at one time, and black as well. Normally I have brown
  26. inmyredhead
I was called spaghetti head as a child, if that tells ya anything. I call it chameleon because it seems to have a mind of it's own... auburn, orange, red, brown in that light, reddish blonde in that light... just weird.
  27. kirs10dee
I was blonde as a kid, but it started getting darker as I got older. Hence, I have to keep going to the salon to go back to my natural color. Weird how that works. (I think it's Beauty Shop Generic # 7 too)
  28. lasunrose
It's dark ashe blonde for the most part, but it has strands of auburn in the back.
  29. weblogian
    Yellow
    See it its up there!
  30. curlydesigh
Dark Brown but turns reddish in the summer. Thinking of dyeing it black again.
  31. keyster94
My hair is brown naturally with blonde highlights...I was a blonde for a few years, but it became to much to keep up the roots! Now I am brown, though no highlights, but a few grays during the times when I am between dye jobs....
  32. CreativeJunkie
I have dark brown hair for approx 2 weeks. Then I have dark brown/grey hair for another 2 weeks. Then I have grey streaked hair with a little bit of brown until I haul my butt to my hairdresser. Then she makes it dark brown again.

    It's a vicious cycle.
  33. timethief
My hair is really dark blonde with a red cast to it. I now have a small flower of silver gray hair where it parts at the front on the right side. I like it and most people think I died it but I didn't.
  34. pamelabaker
Was brown, is brown thank heavens for the good 'ole generic #7 !!
  35. Lucyvp
I'm very very dark brown - almost black, and I had a crown of peppered grey about 4 inches long on the top of my head until I dyed my roots again.

My son and daughter are both red heads. We couldn't work out where they got that from until their dad's mother admitted she's a redhead but dyes her hair blonde. No one knew.
    1. inmyredhead
Too funny! I'm the only redhead in my family out of 7 (5 kids and Mom & Dad) People ALWAYS asked 'Where did I get my red hair?' I learned that I could say, 'From my Daddy's beard.' It was the only other red to be found amongst us. (also actually from his mom- but she lived in another state so the Q came up a lot)

I was your archetypal towhead as a tyke...more white than blonde. By adulthood it had mutated to a mungy "dishwater blonde"...too light to be brown too dark to be blonde, and decidedly unattractive. So, with the help of my friendly neighbourhood hairdresser, we rediscovered my original blondeness, although more of a sunny blonde than white. Interestingly, when it grows out, that mungy dishwater colour seems to segue well into the bottle blonde, so I don't get that hideous Madonna reverse skunk look.

Oddly, there is a little bit near my widow's peak that, when first coloured, looks like the rest of my hair but, within a week or two, begins to lighten up. People often think I bleach a pale streak in the front, but it does it on its own...and the roots grow out that icky dishwater colour, not grey or white. I have very little (no more than 10) grey hairs...my 43 year old daughter has more grey hair than I do!

Right now I have a graduated bob haircut and most of my hair is its normal blonde, but with my last touchup I had the graduated area in back dyed a warm chocolate brown. It's now two-tone and my husband loves it! (I can't see it so as long as he's happy, so am I!).
  37. lordiwanttobewhole
I'm a natural redhead! & don't believe all those crazy things you've heard about redheads....not all of them are true!
  38. harleyblues

    Brown, gray, white, and missing.

My hairline is continuing a relentless march, down the back of my head.

My real haircolor is black but I always have un-natural haircolors e.g blue, pink, purple, silver, green, light-blonde (blonde is an exception) and so on

My current haircolor is red with pink highlights.
  44. luckyr13
