I've been hearing alot of people trashing 2008, saying that it was a bad year, miserable, and yeah, i'll admit that it had it's bad moments, but didn't anybody learn ANYTHING? I mean, as humans that's what I thought we were supposed to do.. Learn from our experiences, hold on to the good, grow from the bad?

I learned alot from 2008.

I learned to be trusting but to be careful who I trust with what. I learned to love unconditionally. I learned to say what I need to say, then "Move along, move along like I know you do," as the All American Rejects sang, because everybody knows you can't change the past. "Kiss the ones you love goodbye,"--Anberlin. Take the most of every moment, embrace the good times, and live while you can because for every bad time in 2008, there were good moments: singing in the car as you drove down the freeway--nothing to worry about, you stood beneath the stars as the wind sifted through your fingers and you knew that you were fine because right then, where you were, was good. I learned to not sweat the small stuff. I embraced my desire to affect the lives of those around me. I learned that it is amazingly important to stand up for what you believe in, to have your own opinions, because when you do that you're fighting for something, and when you're fighting for something you believe in, well, i dont' know when you're more alive. Bind up the broken hearted. Rock like there's no tomorrow. Realize that this crazy old world we live in isn't going to last forever and neither are we. Make the most of every opprotunity.

So tell me.

What did you learn from 2008?

I learned to never take 4 science classes during one semester. And that politics is cool. Also, I learned a great deal of CSS stuff. I also learned more about social networking and that it really isn't just for nerds who have no social life. I also learned that I picked the right career field to want to go into (research, biology particularly marine sciences). I also learned that my life rocks.

thats super awesome. I think 4 science classes would have put me in the hospital or something... WOW. you get 10 respect points for that. lol. I had enough trouble with just one...
      my life rocks too. :]:]

don't congratulate me yet, cause little do you know I almost failed all of those classes and almost ended up in the hospital.

I told you, sensico, science (classes) can be dangerous!

I know, but I like it. My love for challenging subjects is what keeps me happy. I dont know why I make life harder for myself, should have picked something easy and cool like graphic design

I learnt what page rank is... lol Really sad for me
    1. sensico
I still haven't delved into that whole page rank thing, I don't even see the point of it.

p.s. someone explain page rank to the noob=me???
    4. Friday13
It's a number that drives some people crazy when their blog(s) don't have it.
    5. roentarre
Seriously. I have better page rank score before I know what page rank is. Ever since I am trying to improve page rank, my page rank drops!

That page rank has wasted so much of my life span. I am getting back to do my photo blogging and photography forums to make more friends.

I have learned that Iraq still sucks! I also am learning from the mistakes of 2008 and applying new found knowledge to 2009.

I learned that all the standard things medical staff say to patients when something bad happens "everything happens for a reason", "these things happen" and especially "sorry for your loss" made me indescribably furious. I vow to never say any of those phrases when I graduate.

i don't know if you like music much, but you should listen to the song "What Sarah Said" by Deathcab for Cutie. it reminds me of your comment. at least look up the lyrics.
    2. KaiteeThePirate
I've never heard any of their songs, but I made it a special point to look it up. Very poignant.

I especially liked the line "But I knew that you were a truth I would rather lose than to have never lain beside at all"
    3. roodiy
yea those comments always sound rather fake. what would you like to say then?
    4. KaiteeThePirate
I think it would depend on the personality of the person I'm speaking to and I'd have to gauge my words to suit the situation and occasion. Some people expect to hear those things, although other people have said that it made it worse when they were trying to hold it together. I found that someone who actually makes the effort to listen and a comforting gesture like a touch on the hand or shoulder made a world of difference to me.

That some people just aren't worth the hassle. And that working hard will get you long term results.

    Two things.

I learned that sometimes what hurts the most was worth having for a little while.
Is it better to have loved and lost... I still don't know but it's a wonderful memory to have.

And then later in the year I learned that sometimes I don't know what's been missing in my life until it enters my life. My granddaughter born in September.

If something is too good to be true, it is.

I learned that John Lennon was an amazing singer/songwriter, Stephen Colbert does well even without a script, some people can never be convinced that they're wrong (In any area and belief you can think of), Republicans scare me, and cats are evil.

I learned that I was over extended and coming close to a social media meltdown. I decided that I needed to do a lot of "pruning" and then become a better time manager in 2009.

I learned that life is really unfair. No matter how hard you pursue something, if it's not for you then it isn't. See, I had my board exam last June and sadly not all of us in our friendship circle passed. As I have observed, those who didn't make it are the ones who really studied, while on the other hand I was taking everything light during review classes. I didn't even care if I pass or not. But I passed.

I learned that 2009 was going to be a bitch LOL

greatest promises are often most tricky. and 2009 taught me life becomes a heaven when you meet likeminded friends.

I learned that my brother was going to Iraq, and he spent all year there. I lived in fear every day. 2008 was a sucko year... [he is home now, thanks be to God]
