I was just curious as to what job most of the bloggers here have. No company names, just a description of what you do at your job. I work part time in retail ensuring certain companies have their products placed in stores where they are supposed to be placed. I make my own schedule, but UGH...

Me, well I just work at a factory. Went to college for 4 years never got a degree so ended up at a factory. But hoping to get out of it soon and doing what I love to do!

    Work, work, work....in sales.
    1. suburbqueen
Hopefully you find a little time for play, play, play in between sales : )
    2. ender
don't listen to him ... that's all he does is play play play.

Check statcounter! (ha) As for a living, I'm a writer. But, for hobbies, I play guitar and dabble with various different types of art. Of course, there's socializing and enjoying great wine! Then I blog about it.

    I really need a life!
    1. awannabe
I'm jealous. I want to "write" for a living.
    2. suburbqueen
Sounds like your life is interesting enough as is! I'd love to write for a living!
  5. ender
well, first job outa school was teaching. for nine years. then the university i worked for decided there was no reason for anyone to fail the writing class (the only reason i ever saw was when they didn't do the work ...)

so then i was in advertising and graphic design for a dot com for the last three years. then they went under.

now my job is looking for a job and trying to make this house kinda presentable.
    1. suburbqueen
I wish you best of luck in finding another job...one that makes you happy!
  6. monkeytale
Ender is such a doofus. Of course that was typed with much affection....or something.

    :))
    1. ender
okay, okay. really, he just sleeps on the job all the time. it's sad ... but he can't seem to get the narcolepsy under control. if you read his posts, you'll see that he falls asleep right in the middle of them.

      tis sad ... or something.
    2. erinahart
      You two crack me up!
  7. Norski
    I'm a husband and father.

Other than that, I'm the owner, manager, creative staff, clerical staff, accounting staff, and janitorial staff of a small-but-promising online publishing company.

So far, I've got six blogs and three or four (depending on how you count them) websites. Sooner or later, one of them should start turning a profit.

And, if not, I can start a blog about how miserably I failed. Who knows. Maybe that will take off!

(Like the song said: "and remember, whenever you're down and out, the only way is up!")
    1. suburbqueen
I hope something comes of that...sounds interesting. Good luck!
    2. Norski
      Thanks! "Interesting" is the word.
    3. Rich
Norski, there is little doubt that one or more of your projects will take off.
  8. dpasquella
I think Swanson's on that list Mikey...hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Miss the good ol' days when we were married!
  9. 06mopar
I work at a retail appliance store and go to college. Then I come home to work. I've found that having a 2 year old and a pregnant wife is twice as hard as working at a job. It is also much more rewarding. I wouldn't trade it for the world.
    1. suburbqueen
I had a two year old when I became pregnant for the second time and I can vouch that you have your hands full! (My poor husband). Here's wishing you the best!
    2. Norski
      Me, too.

And, it's good to hear from a guy who appreciates homeside values.
  10. awannabe
I'm currently a data entry clerk.
Last month I was a proofreader.
The month before that I was an office assistant.
For 9 months prior to that I was a Production assistant at a tv station...

I have a lot of experience and two bad ears.
    1. suburbqueen
Experience is a good thing, so is diversity. Sounds like you have both of them down to a tee. Wishing you luck!
  11. FemmedeBat
    I'm a threat assessment specialist.
    1. suburbqueen
Thats sounds rather interesting...maybe even a tad scary. What types of threats do you assess?
    2. FemmedeBat
Any threat or perceived or potential threat to the safety of any person or group. It's amazing how much stalking goes on.

It's only dangerous when the stalkers get mad at me for standing between them and the victim and/or when my testimony in court isn't in someone's favour.

We do a lot of workplace stuff, too.
    3. erinahart
      You have an interesting job!
  12. zawadi
I love my family, I am a World of Warcraft player.
I like to read and I like learning about making money, cause im broke
    1. suburbqueen
I too love my family and love to read. Hopefully a little fortune will come your way soon enough. Best of luck!

Work as part of the management team in the only bowling centre in our country!
    1. suburbqueen
How cool...the only one? I like bowling. I'm not very good, but like it anyway.
    2. lupideloop
its a small country... so yep, only 1!
  14. bornliar
I walk through the woods looking for gopher tortoise burrows. Yes, really.

Also, I occasionally get paid to set fires, or put them out, depending on the season.

    I love my job.
    1. suburbqueen
I think you definitely have us all beat by most original job! It's good that you love what you do. It makes a world of difference!
  15. morinn
I'm doing a BA French course, just started my 2nd year at the university plus I give French tuitions to kids on sunday mornings and I like to take care of my house and doggies as a hobby!

  17. LadyBanana
I work in the Health Service, I'm a Mum and a girlfriend. I cycle, I take photos, I cook, I clean, I shop, I watch TV (sometimes) I dance, I sing (badly!) I look after my plants, play with the cat, and sometimes... I sleep...
    1. suburbqueen
Sounds like you have your hands full! And no worries, I sing badly too but it doesn't stop me.
  18. MadameX
I manage content for about 15 companies, most but not all in the legal marketing field. That means everything from legal research and writing to video scripting to making assignments to, managing, and editing the work of 3 in-house writers and 14 outside contractors to keep fresh content on 15-20 websites and 9 blogs, plus whatever print marketing materials, emails, affiliate content and such is required.
    1. suburbqueen
Wow! Sounds like you stay busy. Hopefully they treat you well and pay you good ; )
  19. CL5125
"Thanks for calling {mobile phone carrier here} Sales Support. My name is Tina. May I have the mobile number we'll be working with today?"

I work in a call center. We take calls from retail stores that sell the Companies phones. Lots of my co-workers are way stressed by the job - the industry has a 125% turnover rate.

I've been doing for a year. I love it because I love to talk to random people. It's fun to get a really pissed off customer and turn them all the way around to happy. Talk about manipulation and power. It's all in the words you use, just like writing.

Other than that, it's a job. Not a vocation or anything. The irony is I sit in from of a computer all day at work, but I can't go on the internet at all. So I have a battered notebook that I jot blog inspirations in for when I get home.
    1. suburbqueen
I admire you as I'm not sure I could do what you do. Cranky customers would definitely have me walking out the door.
  20. clioandme
I teach history at university, but as an adjunct, a condition that can't last. I'm still on the market for a full-time position, because I only completed my degree in December. Teaching at university is the goal, but I could imagine doing public history (working outside of academia) or anything else where having a PhD is considered an asset and not a liability. Teaching, research, and writing are fun and rewarding, but poverty is not.
    1. suburbqueen
Teachers are the most underpaid, yet one of the most important jobs to hold. I wish you the best of luck to wherever life may lead you.
  21. momoftwingirls
I am a Mom of my twins and wife to my hubby. I also fill out surveys at home and scan products I purchase at home, along with other things to keep me busy throughout the day when my twins are napping.
    1. suburbqueen
You've got a full plate with a set of twins and I'm sure hubby as well ; )
  22. PetLvr
I am self employed as an accountant / bookkeeper / systems consultant .. and find that if I could become a Problogger and earn enough money, I'd probably quit the offline work and concentrate on the online stuff more.
    1. suburbqueen
If I knew I could make a living, I'd blog myself. I just don't have it like that so I guess I'll stick to my day job : (

    1. suburbqueen
You've got my curiosity up. Is this while they are building it or is it an ongoing job?
  24. jleegirl
I have twin girls also. I'm a stay at home mom for now until next year when they are in school full days. Then it's back to work for me! For now my days are filled with playtime, kid activities, one million 'how's', 'why's', and 'how come's?', blogging, and just enjoying life!
    1. suburbqueen
I feel you as I've been dealing with a lot of the "why's" and "how comes." Wishing you the best when you return to work!
  25. souldrift
I'm a 2nd year Uni student. I'm studying History, so I spend a lot of time reading/researching/writing! In my spare time I like to see my boyfriend/friends, go to gigs, drink a lot of tea & read some more!
    1. suburbqueen
I wish you all the best in school. At least you seem to have a great balance of school and life. I admire that.
    2. erinahart
I hear you on that reading part. I'm a literature student.
  26. Nim
I'm a nurse lecturer for my job...

When I'm not blogging though, I like swimming, cycling and running. In addition to that I LOVE snowboarding (when I get the chance). I also love drinking tea and reading. Oh, and taking my Mom to lunch.

    1. suburbqueen
Seems as if you stay pretty busy. I love that you take time to spend with your Mom. As one, I know she appreciates it.
  27. Nim
My Mom took care of me when I was having chemotherapy for an aggressive cancer, so we kinda have a 'more than usual' special bond. I try to spend time with her when she and I both have time... now that life is 'back to normal' we both try not to question things too much.

I am a junior school student...

That in and of itself is hard enough. Wish you the best!
  29. erinahart
I attend a university. My area of study is English Literature. I'm also a writer.
    1. suburbqueen
Writing would be my dream job, but unfortunately I have little patience for it. Good luck with school!
  30. Vishnuap
I was ready to give you a full list of things I do in the day apart from blogging until I saw the other responses here and sort of realised that you wanted to know what I did for a living. Well, now that I know what you want, makes me feel much better because now I don't have to create a list, which is a pain and would also entail some extra work in the shape of having to verify it and making sure...... Say, did I already mention that I am a software product consultant?
    1. suburbqueen
Glad you didn't have to go through all that trouble ; )
  31. sixuntilme
I'm a writer and an editor for a diabetes media company called dLife (www.dlife.com). Very much inline with my blogging voice.
    1. suburbqueen
That sounds interesting and convenient...can't beat that!
  32. stellarself
What a great question! It's made me realize what an amazingly diverse group of people are here in the blogosphere. I am a speaker/presenter/coach/Reiki practitioner and writer all on topics of wellness from a holistic perspective. I help people work on creating more balance in their lives: stress management, work-life balance, healthy habits, etc. My new book, "Growing Toward Balance: Achievable Ideas for Bringing Harmony to Your Mind, Body and Spirit," which just came out last month, addresses these topics and more.
    1. suburbqueen
That sounds pretty neat. It also sounds like it has the potential to keep you very busy!

I am my mum's carer and training to be a counsellor
    1. suburbqueen
When I was younger I thought about becoming a counselor. It always seemed so rewarding.
    2. crpitt
Everything i have learnt so far has been very rewarding so far, but i am not ready to be let loose on clients yet

It's amazing that so many of you with busy lives find time to blog! I love writing for my blog but I do have the extra motivation that the blog compliments my business, a home exchange site. The challenge with the blog is to 'encourage' people to visit my main site and become members but I want it to be informative rather than just plugging my business (i.e. doing that subtly I hope!)

    Cheers from London.
    1. suburbqueen
That sounds convenient. I wish you luck!

What do I do other than blog? Why blog of course. Is there anything else? No seriously, that's how I've felt the last few days. I run our small farm here where we raise some sheep, two angora goats, an angora rabbit and three cats and a chocolate lab. I have two teenage boys that are more work than the farm! I take the fiber from my animals and either spin it and knit something or sell the raw wool to hand spinners. Needless to say I am never looking for something to do.
    1. suburbqueen
WOW!!! Enough said, but I have to ask...do you ever sleep? : )
  38. windyridge

I've done a lot in the past, qualified ceramic wall and floor tiler, qualified painter and decorator (vinyl specialist)but winding down a bit now as far as manual work goes.Me and the wife have 4 boys two of which is disabled and at 20yrs and 16yrs it can be a handfull and doesn't leave enough time in one go for a regular job. We both have computers and are in the process of trying to make money with blogs websites etc..i've just got into the blogging and looking forward to it.I'm also a poker player but i'm not going to start a blog about that, there are too many already, and before you ask i'm not going to get into any debates about poker being lucky or skillful. You won't convince me it's a game of luck and I probably won't convince you it's a game of skill so we'll leave it at that.
