A simple open ended question this time .... What do you find attractive? About people, partners, art or ??? What makes something attractive?

In art? Anything that I would have been proud to put my name to. It's intangible and personal and hard to label.
In nature? All natural things are beautiful, even the gross stuff. It's some of the things WE do to nature that are ugly.
In friends? Honest, open, smart, funny. Unafraid to laugh at themselves. Age is irrelevant.
In a partner? Much the same as a friend, but with some exciting mutual spark of chemistry. -

Intelligence is extremely attractive. It does not matter if it is a spouse, lover, friend or relative. Intellect is hot. Bloggers are extremely intelligent! Which means bloggers are “happening” attractive types. Except there is an additional equally important element to attractiveness…. balance. Balance means not too much one way, not too much the other way, concerning everything in life.
Anybody who combines intelligence with balance will be a supremely attractive chick/guy magnet. Physically we might be a troll, but balanced trolls are attractive. Shrek! The story of the Beauty and the Beast. The problem are the unbalanced trolls…DOH! Unbalanced intellect is NOT attractive. -

SweetViolet, brains and balance are the trick. Looks can fade, nearly always do. But the inner qualities are forever. And brains and balance make for a good relationship. Balance actually being the more important aspect.

in people?
a sense of humor that includes the ability to laugh at themselves. A sense of purpose for their life, doesn't matter what it is (mostly) but some purpose, a non-defeatist attitude, the ability to enjoy life and make the best of every situation, intelligence is a nice plus too. Life is rough enough at times, I like to be around people who don't make every day an event to dread, people who can look at a problem and think of solutions not walls they cannot climb. -
Someone who has the gift to embrace you with their smile and engage you in worthwhile conversation. A person who is neither petty, mean nor small. A person who is lovely, open, giving and forgiving. A person who listens and is accepting. A person who loves to share a delicious meal with loved ones and friends.

A lady mid-30s, tall, confident, dressed in tailored business dress, high-heels, carrying a light briefcase, who unexpectedly walks into the somewhat downscale old bohemian street bar/cafe where I spend my social hours, takes a seat at the next table, glances around, slightly uncomfortable, adjusts her skirt somewhat as she crosses her legs, smiles at me as she tugs it lightly to her knee. Notices I am sketching on a napkin as I sip my coffee and smoke a cigarette, leans forward slightly, glances at my scribbling, smiles again, and says, quietly..."Oh...are YOU an artist...?"
An so it continues from there. Such an encounter with such an attractive person has yet to happen. But I KNOW it can. I have seen such in movie after movie - particularly the old back an' white ones from my pre-teen years. I look forward with all my heart, in all my dreams.
