I just made a breakfast grilled cheese with salami, bacon, and cheddar. I was wishing I had pepperoni too and I started to wonder what other people put in their grilled cheese.

I use ham sometimes with cheddar. I love grilled cheese! Yum!

Yellow mustard. The tang of the mustard complements the creaminess of the American cheese.

omg yuck. I certainly hope you don't serve that to the guests

Nope, just my own private culinary perversion. I've done it since I was a kid and it reminds me of childhood.

Peanut butter OR tomatoes, so long as the only ones home are me and my eldest. Hubby and the youngest won't touch either one. Otherwise, ham or turkey or just plain cheese.

      peanut butter and cheese? seriously?

Extra-Sharp Cheddar, when available. Yum! I know it's bizarre, but I've been making them since I was allowed to use a butter knife.

I've never tried it with meat but it sounds delicious.

      I hate sweet potatoes

I prefer mayonnaise and Dijon mustard on rye bread. And I put thinly sliced onion and thinly sliced red bell pepper and ham in my grilled cheese sandwiches.

      onions and peppers sound good

That sounds really good! I like putting bacon and tomato on my grilled cheese. Yum!

I don't like tomato because it makes it too mushy for me. I prefer the texture of meat alone.

You have to make sure you take all the seeds out of the tomatoes so only the firm parts are in the sammy. Then--delicious! If you put the tomatoe with all the seeds in, it gets mushy.

Another one of my favorite grilled cheese sammy's is my famous panini, in which you put Jarlsburg Cheese, ham, slices of granny smith apples, on bread that is spread lightly with Grey Poupon mustard. Delicious.

just sourdough bread, thick sliced cheese grilled nicely and then sprinkled with Worcestershire sauce.

What I love is chopping up a tomato, grating some Red Leicester and adding both to a thick slice of wholemeal bread. Worcester sauce is nice to splash on top, although I'm also partial to a bit of ground cumin sprinkled over the cheese as well. Top stuff.

      Leicester?

      oh! cheese...nevermind

I'm awfully fussy about my cheese on toast.
