    Hi balidreamhome and fellow catabloggers,
    My two cents....
Indonesia has wasted a lot, and I mean A LOT, of opportunities because of reasons that we all know. That is the saddest fact for Indonesians.
I own a house in Indonesia and I have regularly visit Indonesia every month.
I do some humanitarian work over in Indonesia and mix with the common folk during most of my stay there.
    Cheers!
    1. balidreamhome
      @ windmillofmymind,
expressing my appreciation to you and your continuance to believe in what you do for Indonesia, I thank you for that,
      Regards,
    2. melisasriwulandari
      what humanitarian work u do?
    3. dreesyach
      to windmillofmymind:

Your answers might be all sound obvious even you didn't mention about what those means of "A LOT", but it seems that your experiences are (maybe) in political issues in Indonesia. Yes there was a riot, we can all say, very other aspect of life with potentially disastrous long-term consequences to morale and effectiveness of a livable life is still scavenged.

What I am saying, obviously, we're always also (as young generations) heavily involved in trying to develop and enrich our country far better than before in all aspects. Anyway, it’s particularly impressive that you would make the humanitarian work in here (Indonesia).

    To dreesyach, balidreamhome and melisasriwulandari,
At the invite of an Indonesian, I visited Indonesia in 2000 just after retirement from regular employ and finishing my last job stint in Bangkok.
I was like most first time visitors to Indonesia taken by the diversity of culture and conditions wherever I travelled. Fortunately, being Malaysian, the language was so much easier compared to Thailand. Anyways, I have befriended many many Indonesians over the past 8 years and that circle is still growing. I carry with me food, medicines and health care items each time I travel there to give to the less fortunate families. I also buy rice and other basic essentials like cooking oil, etc., to give to the really poor and needy families that I have come to know.
Actually, it is not only in the political sense that I am referring to when I gave my first opinion. Indonesians are living in the state of a social cancer that has permeated through political, religious and other non political walks of life.
    1. melisasriwulandari
Whew, that's a heavy topic to discuss.
    2. dreesyach
Unfortunately, I still feel as if it is political issues and moreover Indonesian social cancer -it is not that bad.

The point I want to raise is while most of us know the truth behind this, it's fairly as a developing country have lot of problems. Of course, what behind social cancer is politics, all countries have it.

      **sorry too much click**
    4. melisasriwulandari
They say, give a man a fish, he can eat for a day. Teach a man to fish, he can eat for a lifetime.
  8. dreesyach
I'd never said Indonesian society as a social cancer...
Sure, we do have lots of issue in every governmental elements and poverty life, because we have 33 provinces who are big enough to be independent city and we have more than 100 tribes with diversity of believes and cultures in it.

It takes time to make the people of Indonesian mature (speaking of cultural and situation where less country has the same problem with us) and definitely takes more than just to grow. I'm not saying this because I'm an Indonesian and trying to be defensive in this discussion but, you know how politic goes. I won't go near that, just trying to be positive in every aspects. Because I believe way before developing country becomes developed, they also have a problem like Indonesian nowadays.

    Cheers.
  9. windmillofmymind
    Hi dreesyach,
Which brings us back to my first statement. Indonesia has wasted a lot of good opportunities and still is, most unfortunately. I beg to differ. Over in Indonesia it is not solely political issues that is the cause of the social problems. You would be in a better position to understand the challenges even far better than I do and perhaps you would in your own right have a priority wish list that like most other fellow citizens in your country do.

Here is everything I think I know about Indonesia. I could be wrong.
    1-capital Jakarta
2-several islands. I think Java is 1 of them and it is populated by tribal people.
3-I think of it as an island paradise
4-There is a minority of mostly wealthy Chinese who sometimes feel threatened
5-There are parts of the country that are dangerous because of Muslim militants
6-Lake Toba, the deepest lake in the world I think

My general impression of Indonesia is a country that is beautiful, relatively poor, very industrialzed, with a lot of political unrest.
    1. balidreamhome
      @ CALAIS50,

      You got it right! cheers

I used to like Indonesia and the people and then I found out about this:

    curageousideas.blogspot.com/2007/12/thats-b-f-r-what-are-you-afraid-of.html

    Really Big Rats!

I still think the people are great and it's a beautiful place but.... I guess you know the rest. (Smile)
  12. windonmyface
I haven't been there in Indonesia.. but I would love to go there one day.. Knowing the country and its people doesnt take only 3 or 5 days of visit... It takes long time, before I can say or judge the people itself.. Anyways, with regards to socio-political problems, it is everywhere! Everywhere, but it depends on the level or intensity of the problems.

Just like windmillofmymind, i am also a humanitarian worker... but I always bring with me the principles that needy people are not powerless. They have potentials on their own ways.. Gosh, im being emotional again.

To go back with the topic, I would love to go to your country, maybe this year, i guess. And let's see what I can answer here.. I have indonesian friends, to tell you.. Many of them.. Even if I had bad experience with the first indonesian I first became friend, I didn't generalise them all.. :-) they all have distinct personalities. :-)
