Not a bad list(apart from the inclusion of Bono) but its very American/British biased.
And putting Bob Dylan on is just ridiculous the guy can't sing a note.

      Good point..It's a pitty that
      1) it's completely based on American/British music sector
      2) The order is like a random list!!

For example; B.B.king at 96 and Sam Cooke at 4 ??

It looks pretty good, if you don't take it too seriously.

I'm sure some people will object to the inclusion of people who aren't *technically* strong singers like Bob Dylan, Lou Reed, Neil Young, etc., but I think it's great that they're here--meaning the emphasis is on being expressive rather than "chops."

take of christina aguilera, it is a fair list though
    1. ophase
      I don't think it's a fair list at all..
    2. rowen
It is for Rolling Stone! They are always biased
    3. cooper
She has a spectacular voice why should they take her off. Compared to Kurt Cobain who couldn't sing a lick.
    4. rowen
She makes nonsense music and is just a pop tart

I think Christina Agulera urgently should do smtg about her legs. There's something wrong about her legs that i cannot explain.

I think its a pretty good list. I think everyone on the list is a very good vocalist.

In my opinion, these 179 experts cannot distinguish the difference between a good "singer" and a good "artist"..
  5. avante
I like it too. even if I don't agree with it.
We should make our own and see what we think.
  6. cooper
You should have posted the list to the Rolling Stone Article.

Some of the choices aren't really very good singers per say, but I enjoyed going through the list and listening to the songs.

Any list that doesn't include Sinatra (at least, in the top 5) isn't worth the paper it's printed on.
  8. NutriGirl
No Sting???? No George Michael??? And Freddie is number 18??? I don't like this list.
    1. ophase
Not sure about Sting... Though he's One of my greatest composers and has a tune of voice but not the greatest singer...

Anyway everyone can write their top 5 here www.blogcatalog.com/discuss/entry/whos-the-best-singer-make-a-top-10

What a pitty that i didn't ask your top 5 here!!

    Your list is great

But it leaves out all the ethnic singers and great singers that are not mainstream but are often brilliant

salif keita, geoffrey oryema and even Nusrat was considered by Peter Gabriel as the voice of the century

    Jesu Das, the Kabri Bothers
    1. ophase
I agree that they have also a great voice spectrum. (I heard about Nusrat and Khalid before). But they don't have any hits in US charts

Besides the reason why i love spanish so much is "Guadalupe Pineda"
      She's one of my favorites
  10. Hoeno
Little Richard better than Roy Orbison as a singer? Okay, I'm going to have to have a drink before I can even begin to think about that.
