I'd been looking around the web and saw a lot of different image blogs, that were really either just stock photo blogs or wallpaper resource blogs. I thought that they were pretty cool and a good way to have not only free self advertising for your other websites, but a decent way to start some ad revenue by offering images at a fairly low maintenance.

So I decided to start one for myself. An Anime wallpaper site. I've got mounds of wallpapers on my computer, and I also visit some sites that are constantly uploading high quality, so I'm just working my way through.

I'm also wondering if you would be able to tell me what you think about the design and such.

    Hi,

I like it. Youi have a nice layout. I forwarded the link to my kid, who's an anime fan.

But how the heck do you pay the bills with an Anime Wallpaper site???

You don't pay the bills, but it will end up being some nice passive revenue

I own about 5 sites, so between all of them not bad.

And thanks for passing on the link ^__^

    The only thing I'd ask first is;

Do you OWN those anime images that you've walled?

If not, trying to collect revenue off them, even if original work might get you tangled in some sort of "copyrights" problems.

Just checkin' before I'd venture a recommendation.

I don't own them, but anime wallpaper sites have existed for years without an issue because they're essentially free advertising for all of those series.

But thanks for keeping it in mind ^__^

Ok... just checkin' as I said. Dunno how the copyright thing would have worked. So better safe then sorry.

Perhaps something you might consider would be to add a poll. Best Wallpaper of the week. Then "Feature" the winner in it's own post, to draw attention to a whole weeks worth of Pics.

Just something to mull over in ur ventures.

That's actually a REALLY good idea. I may do that ^__^

To me it is similar to those splogs which us the posts of others on their sites and their sites make money from ads. The work is not theirs.

I hate those sites. They keep pinging mine >__> but it's free advertising so I don't mind much.

It's more of a resource site. Compiling anime wallpapers into one place. Lord knows I've been one to hate jumping all over the internet looking for one decent one.

I don't think I would publish a site like that, giving away the wallpapers directly on my site.

I would, however, write about the nicest wallpapers I find, include a thumbnail of it, give info about it and the artist, explain why I like it, and link to the ORIGINAL ARTIST'S SITE.

This would get you out of any sort of copyright tangles, since it would be considered fair use because you are providing commentary and full credit on the piece and the thumbnail doesn't take away from the value of the full sized art piece.

Additionally, the original artist isn't likely to get upset when you are giving them free publicity and traffic, and exposing people to their art and giving them an opportunity to possibly sell t-shirts, prints, and other merchandise to your visitors, from their own site.

And if you are paying for your bandwidth, the thumbnails would use much less and would be cheaper to host both in terms of disk space and bandwidth used. This could be really important as your site grows and becomes more popular.

I run a very specialized ebook site where I give descriptions of certain free books, a chapter summary, and a link to where you can get the book (original author or publisher's site). I send all my traffic to other sites and on those sites there is the opportunity for the authors & publishers to sell print editions of the books to my visitors.

I have never had a complaint and I have even had authors email me links to their books to be included on my site, as well as authors emailing me when the location of their site changes.

I make my money off the ads on my site and it has received quite a bit of traffic since I started it 3 years ago. That site is my 2nd biggest money maker. ;-)

Being kind to the original creators has its merits and you'll have a lot more respect from others and be taken more seriously, if you do.

Thats cool, I don't really know if a blog is really the right kind of site for that though.
