I never really knew too much about Entrecard--still don't actually--but keep hearing more and more about it. Was just wondering what BC members think of the service. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Just one of those services I don't know anything about and have heard it mentioned a few times lately. I went on the site this morning to see what it was all about and asked some of the guys here about it too. Got some mixed responses (a lot about quality of blogs and bloggers kind of like what you said)and just wanted to see what others thought about what they're doing.

I had been on it for a while, and it upped my traffic. I did get to meet some interesting bloggers through it.
But then it began offering paid advertising. And two concerns cropped up for me. One was, this paid advertising was running across-the-board. Meaning splog style advertisers could advertise across the whole network on one go, and if you didn't reject their ad within, I believe 24 hours, it would AUTOMATICALLY post on your blog.
I didn't like that. There would be 30-40 some ads to reject over a 24 hour period. It was too much, and too cheesy. So I let Entrecard users know I was leaving and pulled both of my blogs.
The other concern was, as this was potentially paid advertising instead of the previous points barter system, there was no way to tell how Google would react to it. I didn't want to be penalized by Google for being a part of what now felt like a scheme.
My traffic has gone down, but I'm getting a lot less traffic that's just flying by, dropping their cards and leaving-- with no intent of reading.
I figure I'd rather make up the traffic with quality readers. -
Don't use it myself but have been hearing a lot of negative comments about it lately, mostly surrounding inflation and bounce rates. There doesn't seem to be a genuine interest in the blogs from the EC droppers, it's a numbers game (how many cards can you drop), so you don't get the authentic blog interaction and organic readership that you hope for.
If improvements were made, it could have potential. -
Entrecard is a mess and Google policy strongly opposes buying/selling links and hence purchase and sales of backlinks is violation of terms of Google.
Entrecard brings in a traffic flood of one hit wonders that produce a very high bounce rate. You may gain some faithful readers but you will not gain many, so it makes sense to consider why you want to participate in a scheme that does not deliver targeted readers.
If you care about PageRank then don’t purchase paid links as it is violation of Google terms, instead allow your blog to grow naturally and seek out ways and means to secure targeted readers.

I canceled my Entrecard membership. My bounce rate was almost 100% and I didn't get any real traffic from it. It required a lot of work to keep up with and I was really aggravated with the poor quality of blogs on Entrecard. So many of the blogs were little more than ads with a couple lines of text.
BC provides me much better quality traffic and regular readers. Interestingly enough, the blog that placed the most ads on my blog is also a BC member. -
I agree with all the bad press - total waste of time. There are lots of real ways to get real stats.

I love EntreCard. It's become so much a part of my blogging that I would be lost without it. I love dropping on my favorites and reading what they have posted for that day. I really enjoy finding new blogs that I probably wouldn't have found without EntreCard. I have met the most amazing bloggers through EntreCard. I suppose just like anything else, you get what you give. If you just drop and run, that is what you get back. I do drop, but I also take the time to read the blogs that I find interesting. Different strokes for different folks, and there is a wide variety in EntreCard.
It has also increased my traffic a lot. I do get my fair share of comments from EntreCard droppers and they are all amazing bloggers. -
Hi Everyone ... I'm a member of both Blogcatalog and Entrecard and both are amazing groups to promote your blog. Entrecard give you points for each visit that you make to another blog and for every visit from a fellow blogger to your blog. The points may be used in various ways - a blogger can advertise on one or more other blogs of their choice or they can save the points and use them in a shop to purchase items or they can even exchange them for cash.
Another positive aspect of being in Entrecard is not only the enormous increase in daily visitors and commentators but also the extent that your blog is Googled. Mine is often on the front page for various topics that people are looking up.
All in all - I can confirm that it is a win win situation and I would advise all bloggers to give it a go - with membership of both communities it can only give a positive outcome. All bloggers want their blogs to be read and so visitors are of prime importance to us all. -
I noticed that some have mentioned paid advertising - they have now banned outside adverts and internal ones are of a bloggers choice. You choose which blogs that you would like to advertise on your widget. Any that you don't approve of you simply reject.

You may find it difficult to believe but out of the thousands of idiots and internet marketers who bombard these discussions with "omg check out my blog" threads, there are actually a handful of people who share similar interests to those of my own. That, darling, is called a community. You seem to be mistaking that for boasting about a crappy online service which can inflate your web stats, a claim which I don't particularly care for.

Time consuming and not focused enough. It gives a lot of quick hits, but not readers who spend time on a blog.

qelqoth - you sound very angry. I too like community and have found that a good blogging community will not just chit chat but will genuinely help other bloggers sort out all kinds of difficulties. I'm not sure what knowledge or experience you have with Entrecard but personally I have found some lovely bloggers in it. People do blog hop but they will do that anyway - there are scores of others who read each others articles, comment, advise, recommend, and so on and so forth. I would never shoot down others commitments to their blogs in whatever form it takes. I know that there are a serious number of bloggers that actually earn a living with their blogs. Some rely upon regular visitors for essentials earnings.
For those who don't wish to visit other blogs then that is their choice. I can only speak from experience to say that I have found some amazing and wonderful blogs that I regularly visit and read - I would not have found them if I hadn't joined either Entrecard or Blogcatalog so I would never make broad sweeping statements to dismiss the methods that these blogs have been made available to me.
I say three cheers to Entrecard and three cheers to Blogcatalog they both have my vote as seriously good Blogging tools with amazing community and membership! -
Stay away from Entrecard. They are just using their members to create a popular ad network to push advertising and PPC programs. Their motivation is purely financial and nothing else. The people who think that Entrecard wasn't planning the paid ads thing from the very beginning are completely naive. They are also deleting sites from their network that make any kind of money because they want to control the flow of traffic on their network blogs.
-
qel is right. It's a garbage service that generates no sufficient traffic that is useful to you in anyway. All the traffic is other bloggers clicking on your drop and leaving; thats all. Entrecard is also banning blogs that don't agree with their policies and banning blogs that put any kind of advertisements on their posts.

I stopped using it. I found it did drive *some* traffic--but not really the kind I wanted. People who visit and only click on the entrecard advert--they don't even stay long enough to read a single post.
And then they went crazy with paid ads--that's when I decided to remove the widget from my blog. -
I see everyone has great points. In my opinion it's how you use a service that makes it work or not.
If you're looking for quality traffic, which means people who actually care about what you're writing, then you have to give a little first. Meaning, leave quality comments on people's blogs. Revisit. Try to interact with people and get to actually know them.
I love the community of people here on BC, and although I'm new to Entrecard, I'm sure the majority of users there are looking to make connections as well.
Once connections are made, then the exchange of ideas, links, posts and traffic naturally evolve from that.
