Anything Hitchcock, though I saw he "Shawshank Redemption" recently, and though I had seen it before, I must have been too young to appreciate it at the time, after watching it again I think it comes pretty close to the best movie I've ever seen.
    1. LGramlich
I'm with you on Shawshank. Totally.
    2. ThriftShopRomantic
      Yep. That's an excellent one.

Also, in terms of older films, I love "To Kill a Mockingbird" and Hitchcock's "Rear Window."
    3. AngieA
Well yes, "Shawshank Redemption" would be on my top 10 list.

A beautiful mind, Gone with the wind and Camelot, the musical to name a few.
    4. AngieA
Each evening, from December to December,
Before you drift to sleep upon your cot,
Think back on all the tales that you remember
      Of Camelot.
Ask every person if he's heard the story,
And tell it strong and clear if he has not,
That once there was a fleeting wisp of glory
      Called Camelot.

      Anyone remember that?
    5. SweetViolet
Yep. I used to have the entire Camelot score memorized.
    6. roentarre
      Ditto, my favorite film ever!

  14. alexia28
yeah ok if that is your choice
  15. wandadog13
I'd like to say a Bond film but i'd probably have to choose Star Wars not least for what it spawned afterwards. The film I've recently most enjoyed was Spiderman 3.
  16. wandadog13
oh alright then - Goldfinger - the plot, the music, everything really came together and set the scene for the next 20 odd films.....
  17. alexia28
i have a lot to catch up
  18. Scribblerchick
This is hard to answer. To me, it would be hard to choose between Jerry Maguire and The Color Purple. I also love Bravehart although it's too bloody.

My 12 year old son would say The Matrix.

My 17 year old daughter would say Love Actually.

My 74 year old mother would say Roman Holiday.

Just trying to give the different perspectives...
  19. VampireFaust
    Hmmmm...I have a few...

I wonder why no one picked the first Godfather? C'mon guys... It's a masterpiece. Everything in it is beautiful... From the script to the cinematography, to the soundtrack and most of all the acting. Everyone on that movie outdid himself. I could watch it frame by frame and there is not one shot and I mean absolutely not one shot that you will throw away. It's that beautiful. There was one camera shot of the well-heeled guests coming to the funeral of Don Corleone, that one shat when they step out of the vintage cars... It was so surreal and so dreamlike, it's just... well, how can I say it... out of this world? Oh well, I'm raving like some demented movie fan again, but hey, if you watched the film, you will know what I'm talking about. Marlon Brando is an acting God... I love every second of the movie and every single word on the script from the first scene when a face seemingly floating in darkness delivered the opening line... "I believe in America"... I mean, how can you forget that movie? It becomes a part of you when you watched it...
    1. Aluajala
Godfather is no doubt an epic movie! Beautiful from the first scene.
    2. Guzzo
Okay.. I'll pick it. I'll also pick The Godfather part II. Two of the greatest movies ever made.

  61. infowebexplore
generally speaking it does not exist only one best movie ever. that depends on the taste of each person but are you gonna interview everyone on this earth??
    1. alexia28
smile..more knowledge is great. to know the best film for each and everyone is worth the effort and money..wink
  62. LynneaUrania
The one of which I have been most impressed with over the years is:

    Dr. Zhivago
  63. Friday13
    Everything by Uwe Boll!

    Okay, maybe not.
  64. SiuilARuin
Citizen Kane ...not an original suggestion...but it is the greatest film ever made!
    1. aningeniousname
Over rated, a touch of evil was a much better effort from Welles.
    2. SiuilARuin
      NO WAY!!!

Citizen Kane is Welles' masterpiece...the only time he got free-reign, and it is stunning! The perfect film!
    3. aningeniousname
I'll grant you there are some stunning steps forward in film making (such as the spinning newspaper) but as a film it isn't a patch on a touch of evil.
Most of the interest in Citizen Kane is in a few technical innovations and the fact that in attacking Hearst he effectively ruined his career.
    4. SiuilARuin
I'm going to have to disagree with you there...I think it was a beautifully structured and scripted film...and I'm quite partial to visual metaphors so I had a lot to enjoy with Citizen Kane!
    5. aningeniousname
Have you seen Kurosawa's Roshomon? That is a much superior film to Citizen Kane. As good a film as Citizen kane is it is a sort of self fulfilling prophecy, the legend of it's greatness outweighs its actual appeal.
I could name 20 films better than Kane but Kane will always come up as the best film because it is some how a "fact"
    6. SiuilARuin
I have not, I'll check it out.

I think we're going to have to agree to disagree on Kane!
  65. LikeitWinit
Ever after with drew barrymore, and pretty woman with julia Roberts, cant decide.
    1. SiuilARuin
I find this very pleasing...Citizen Kane to Ever After or Pretty Woman! Ha!
  66. beinki
The Man Who Would Be King with Sean Connery and Michael Cain.
"Me and Peachy don't go nowhere lessen our army goes with us."
    1. aningeniousname
Classic John Huston film, up there with "The treasure of the sierra madre" for me.
I read he tried to make that film in the forties with Gable and Bogart but for some reason he couldn't get it made.
It would have been a good film with those two but I love the Connery/Caine version.
  67. Sway
    I have always loved "Clerks"
    But..
I also really like "Blood Diamond"
    "Hunting Party"
    "Dawn of the Dead 2005"
    "Dog Day afternoon"
    "Terminator 2"
    "Momento"
    "The Last King of Scotland"
However, like most things, over time my taste in movies changes...
    1. aningeniousname
"Dog day afternoon" is one of those Hollywood golden films from the seventies. I believe the 1970's to be the height of the American film industry.
After that it falls into franchised summer blockbusters and audience approved endings.
    2. Sway
      ...a generalized statement.
    3. aningeniousname
      Yup, true statements usually are.
  68. SaintSeanzy
I'll have to bring out the Gimp on this one... Pulp Fiction hands down...
  69. alexia28
am having fun with this discussion. it is nice to know that we are able to share something and that makes it beautiful.
