Since Obama will not say what he plans to "Change", I need your help. While you are at it can you also tell me what he means by "Hope"?

Listen to his speech on Thursday. Or listen to what other Democrats are saying now. Mark Warner's keynote address can help: www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=94003032

Curious... wasn't there a political discussion group started during my absence over the summer? If so, where is the best place to have these types of discussions around here, in BC land??

If you view these discussions in the list view, you'll see an advertisement for them on the right. Here's the direct link: www.blogcatalog.com/politics/discuss

A leader has to inspire people, and that, time and again he has proven his capability. Change can be in any form, one of which I am confident that he will do is improve America's relationship with the rest of the world/open diplomacy. And we are sure he will also work to improve the condition of blue colored pets like me...lol

When he says 'Change', he clearly wants to know if you have any spare change to help him run his campaign.

Change means turn away from the suicidal course the Republicans have led us on.
Hope means believe that it's not too late, despite the incredible damage done by Bush & co. -
He wants a revolution. I say go to Venezuela if you want that sick crap. I don't need anyone to change this country. We have the best laws and system in place already -- with perfect checks and balances -- to ammend things that need fixing.
-
Well said. The only thing he will be able to change is his pants! He too young politically to have any pull with the old stallwards in Congress. They will control him just like the Clintons have controlled his convention.

@banquetmanager
I have noticed that you have the habit of link dropping. Maybe you should reconsider the link dropping part as it's not well received here at BC. Reading the sticky post at the head of the forum will clarify this for you here's the link to Read Before Posting www.blogcatalog.com/discuss/entry/read-before-posting-1
Best wishes for better posting -
@canubapartofmylife
It seems you haven't Obama's Blueprint for Change so here's the link so you can do that www.barackobama.com/pdf/ObamaBlueprintForChange.pdf
It seems under your "best laws and system" one can be held for five years without charges being laid or a trial taking place. Does Guantanamo Bay ring a bell with you? It rang a bell for the rest of us living in democracies. It rang so loud that we shouted - liars!
It seems in your country the administration scored record high military budgets and poverty rates simultaneously. It seems your youth are being sacrificed on battlefields and coming home in body bags to insure the unsustainable continuance of an oil based economy upheld by exploiting the resources of other nations. It also seems your country has ve an enormous debt that will take multiple generations to pay off. It also seems over 45.7 million Americans lack a healthcare plan, kids have 40 year old out of date text books and the list goes on. Surely you must be living in an altered state of reality if you think you live under the best system there is.

It's essentially a marketing attempt to capitalize on the growing (and very real) disenfranchisement many feel with the Bush Administration and the Federal Govt. at large.
Really it's no different than when a candidate says "leadership you can trust." (and they all say that)
Personally I don't buy any bag of goods any politician is selling.-
Time thief...you confuse a system with actual things happening. We DO live in the best system. All you did was make a laundry list of things you didn't/don't like about what is happening now. There are also thousands of wonderful things about our country that co-exist with your list, some of which are valid and some of which are clearly not. But our body of governing is still the best one on this earth, perfect it ain't! But we have the three branches of government to ensure checks and balances and we have this great system to work with and through to make changes as needed and will always be needed. This is something most other countries do not have and we are lucky to live here. We have more rights and privilages even in poverty here than in any other nations. As far as guantanamo goes -- well who gives a rats ass. Those "people" were picked up with guns in their hands, brain washed to kill in infidel. They still have MORE rights there than what they did and do to anyone who isn't of their religious mindset. You see there IS NO comparrison because they bloody, and drag bodies without arrest, trial, court systems and liberal wack jobs crying for our soldiers to protest their rights and freedoms and leave them burned up in the streets and that's if we are lucky to find the bodies. So yes, guantamo is a freaking five star hotel when put into proper perspective. But alas you will certainly disagree with me. That's fine.

Heh. Yeah. Or ontheissues.org

Yes it does appear that there are those who have no desire to read Obama's Blueprint for Change www.barackobama.com/pdf/ObamaBlueprintForChange.pdf I wonder why that is? One would assume that any blogger would be a reader.

You haven't been paying attention to his plan, just the McCain ads. You have to have several millions to get a tax increase.
Here's one piece from the non-partisan Factcheck.org. You can find more there, if you're interested in the real proposals as opposed to McCain's 30-second spots: www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/more_tax_deceptions.html -
You must be in a household making over $250,000 a year.... good for you. Those of us who don't bring in that kind of cake will get break on taxes.

Change: make or become different. In other words... change the course set by Bush, Cheney and the Republicans. A vote for McCain means a vote for stay the course.
Every U.S. citizen should ask themselves...
"Am I better off than I was eight years ago?"
"Is my country better off than it was 8 years ago?"
The answers to those questions along with being informed about the candidate's positions regarding the issues will guide your vote. Don't let F.U.D. (fear, uncertainty & doubt) influence your decision.

My blog has excerpts from the upcoming speech. Read and decide for yourself.

In his speech tonight, Obama laid out exactly what he means by change. It wasn't just philosophical or the fact that he has the right temperament and judgement for the job—unlike McCain. Instead he laid out specific policy points.
This NPR story includes links to the transcript as well as an audio recording: www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=94077510
I also expect it will appear on YouTube pretty soon on the Democratic Convention's channel:

Or you can catch it on RealAudio via C-SPAN: www.c-span.org/ -
While the subject of change is being discussed. I would like to request that political discussion be posted to the forum that was specifically created for them. Is that too much to ask?
-
@TT - it seems ironically that you resurrected this thread so you could ask that the discussion be moved to a new thread
Seriously though, please read my responses to you on my own discussion www.blogcatalog.com/discuss/entry/since-this-is-political-discussion-day-ba...
and on TBR's discussion: www.blogcatalog.com/discuss/entry/turn-out-the-lights-the-mccain-party-is-o...
I know this is a pretty strong subject for you. I also feel really strongly about my point.

I posted my take on what he means on my blog. Hint: change=restoration.
Please visit the article for my detailed view.

It means he hopes that you will overlook his favoring very large companies like Amazon over small independent businesses. The change you will get if you are a small business owner under Biden/Obama is pocket change. But if you are a big business, you will get dollars.

I wish McCain would go jump in a lake and Obama would take a long vacation where we would never see him again. -

According to his blueprint Sen. Obama feels, "the dream that so many generations fought for feels as if it's slipping away."
What dream is slipping away? -
Socialism perhaps?

By change he means changing his position every five minutes.
His "tax cuts" proposals by the way would seriously F&*^ things up for middle class demographics due to the nature of marginal tax rates:
www.american.com/archive/2008/august-08-08/the-folly-of-obama2019s-tax-plan -
Best article I've seen so far on the topic. Thanks Linc.
"Although Obama is offering a new series of tax breaks, they undermine rather than improve economic incentives."
This is the real problem, taxes aren't built on simple 1+1, they are compounded with each effect triggering another. and the Obama version of tax cuts actually increases taxes instead. And does so for a tax bracket much lower than his stated 250k.-
Welcome csiunatc
Neither candidate has an superb tax plan really, though I think McCain will spur more economic growth and prevent more poverty traps than Obama's would (if he even follows through on it, which I seriously doubt.)
Ideally though a flat tax initiative should be offered, but in a perfect world income tax would be abolished altogether and replaced with a federal sales tax. Bye bye loopholes and no more tax shelters for the rich.

-
I think you are right, it is the "lesser of two evile"
The real problem as i see it with Obama is the combination of what this article discusses along with the capital gains tax. Combined they could be detrimental to average income families who are in a position where they have to sell a home. The Combinatory effect would almost eliminate their chances of moving to a smaller owned home, effectively reducing the number of potential downwards moving home owners, which in itself will hurt the housing market even more.
