What do your friends and family think of your blogging?

I find blogging to be a great way to try and make a difference in people's lives. I think only my 12 year old daughter has viewed my blog along with thousands of people all over the world of course. The rest of my family thinks it is a waste. Does your family support you or make fun of you? Do you care what they think?

My friends find me dull and boring and my family doesn't know... which is probably just as well, since I don't get invited to THAT many Christmas parties to start with...
-
Great discussion point.
My family is all into blogging- my wife, sisters, relatives, etc... So- when they look at my blog, they don't have anything negative to say. It's nice when you're surrounded by a culture of blogging. -
My ferret blog was actually my mom's idea. She was kinda adamant about it (dunno why). So, like the good daughter I am (*g*), I complied.
My dad doesn't care, and my sister knows and blogs sporadically herself. My nieces love seeing all the fert-y pictures (it keeps them quiet and entertained >yay! -

"Please don't think I'm spamming by adding my links. That's not how I work. The blogcatalog traffic for me is social. I was just trying to show you how I work."
I wouldn't think that. Social is good but I think it is also okay to share your business life as well. I love the links so I can quickly go to where I want to. Aren't we supposed to be able to share our knowledge easily? -
yes i agree. But often people that post discussions get upset when people reply to thier comments and throw in their links. I noticed that you hadn't responded and I thought that may you thought that I was spamming.
Red Panda doesn't spam but he does put little pictures of his nephews around the place

My friends and family love my blog--everyone has been incredibly supportive and have given me lots of confidence in my writing. I have really gotten nothing but positive feedback from everyone.
-
My family doesn't know about it as far as I know. If they've actually found it online then they know, but I don't. I don't look to them for support. I write what is real to me. I'm not here to "impress" or "promote" anyone, including myself. So no, I don't care what they think of it, assuming they even find their own way to finding it.

My family and friends enjoy visiting my blog and seeing what I am up to
As for what is a waste, that really is subjective, I mean I think spending hours staring a cars going around and around and around is a waste but some people LOVE it. -
I have only told one person and she hasnt even bothered looking at it. I just find it easier to keep it on the down low.

My friend Rob says I’m probably going to get assassinated at some point – but that probably won’t have anything to do with any of my sites.
My wife thinks I’m a good writer but never has any idea what I’m writing about – so I can’t be too good.
I’m trying to get my family more involved by collecting and reporting family history, photos, recipes, and folklore on my personal site. -
Most of my friends aren't aware or just don't care.
My family ... they probably wouldn't give a [expletive], especially because the blog's in English (and the native language here is Spanish). -

My kids are young and don't care. DH doesn't care as long as the stuff around the house gets done. That may sound bad, but being a SAH, homeschooling, mom it's my "job" to do the house-work and teach the kiddos. Of course if I choose to work outside the home it would be different.
As for my extend family, my folks, siblings, grandparents, inlaws etc. To be honest they don't know. It's not like I talk about it to them. LOL -

well, unfortunately my family (especially relatives) doesn't give much value to my blog, they feel that its just a time pass kind of a thing and it will not take me anywhere. its of course a lot more than that for me. i'm really passionate about my blog. it might sound funny and strange but many of my relatives dont even know what a blog is all about. my friends know about my blog but apart from few of them no one really checks them out.
i have got quite a lot of appreciation for my blog ... it obviously feels nice, but it would definitely have felt better if i would have got the same from friends and family too. -
my friends keep telling me that this is such a waste of time...
my family don't have any idea about blogging.
I blog to enhance my knowledge and ideas about the unique world of computer...ETC

This is a very good thread.
Mostly people feel that blogging is a waste of time. They can't believe one can earn from blogging. In fact no one would believe that you can spend time on internet and earn.
If you spend some time occasionally on blogging people would not mind. But if you spend more time like we all do, well I don't think the family/friends approve that. -
I blog for my business, so some of my friends and husband will check out my blog on what I'm writing. I also blog for personal satisfaction on things I find interesting or thought provoking, or simply something I'd like to share and honestly I don't really care if my friends or family read it. Mind you my parents don't really understand the concept of blogging, it's a challenge for them to surf the web!

At first my mom always yelling at me same with my brother but later on I told them that blogging is fun. They now understand.

My husband thinks I'm a big geek. I don't know that he's ever read much of what I've written, although I do play songs for him that I discover when I'm away, usually through my blog, so he knows what it looks like. The kids, on the other hand, well see me bopping in my chair while I'm working on something else and ask me, "Is that the song of the day, Mommy?" They've looked through my blog and listened to a number of the songs (although I'm careful to veto any that are too nasty for little ears). It's a good way to keep them occupied while I'm cooking dinner.
So far as I know, my parents and siblings have no idea that I have a whole other, on-line life. I'm torn between sharing and maintaining the illusion of privacy. Besides, I wouldn't want them coming here and reading my posts! -
A few of my friends read my blog regularly, some occasionally, and some don't really care. My dad decided my blogging was cool once he noticed bloggers were being referred to in actual news pieces on TV and magazines.
I give three of my friends extra-special credit because they've been really excellent about helping me take photos for my blog, or include them in blog stories. -
Some are interested and some aren't. That's life.
I was disappointed at first that my husband wouldn't read it and wasn't the slightest bit interested - now I enjoy having something that is very much my own.
I am always careful about what I say about family and friends though. One day I might start an anonymous blog - I quite like the idea of the freedom that would bring. -
As far as I know, no one in my family has read any of my blog posts. I rarely read any of my off-line friends' blogs, and they don't read mine at all.
On the bright side, I know that anyone who visits my blog is genuinely interested in what's there, not just trying to be nice because they know me. -
The rest of your family thinks it's a waste? Well maybe they don't dig blogging, reading or whatever. I don't think it's stupid lol. I think it's a great way to express, knowing some people can relate to you.
My family supports me but I'm embarrassed LOL. My friends don't laugh, sometimes they do. No one I know thinks it's silly. That's because the closest of my friends and family are the only ones who know about my blog. If they don't dig it, then I wouldn't care what they think lol. -
My friends think I'm a bit of a geek for doing it but some of them read it on a regular basis which is nice.
My mum thinks it's a good idea as it helps me to get my foot in the door of professional writing. -
i am anonymous to most, even my family. the few who know, are encouraging me to continue speaking my mind. i do not think blogging is a waste of time. regards.
-
they think it,s grest that i am trying
I often theink of the early american inventor Edison who invented the light bulb.
A reporter asked him-you tried a 1000 experiments why don,t you give up--His reply was cause I know a thousand things that dont work, now i can try other expeiments -
I guess I am a maverick as far as blogging goes, because I have no friends and family that read my blog. I have one friend that is interested in Myspace and having people send them "party" messages, and that is just too superficial for me.
-
They're completely into it. And what I love is when my friends by extension (through my site) write to me to tell me that it makes them happier to read it. That's satisfaction that money can't buy.

I'm new to the blogging world. Just started a blog this past week. I let some friends and family know about the blog I started, but they have mostly all been silent thus far. Not sure what to think. I'm interested in simply writing about things I'm involved in, and have been developing a passion for. I'm self employed in the home maintenance business, and also have past experience working in the field of social services. So I decided to start a blog related to these two areas.

Does your family support you or make fun of you?
My family does not make fun of what I do nor do I make fun of what they do. I don't require their support to blog and don't expect it.
Do you care what they think?
Erm ... no, I'm a big girl. I'm over 50 and have been making my own decisions as to where to devote my time and energy since I was a teen.

My advice is to start building self confidence and independence now. IMO it's important to learn how to please yourself for two reasons:
(1) To save yourself from falling into the trap of becoming a neurotic, unfulfilled and unhappy people pleaser;
(2) To provide a strong role model for your kids so hopefully they will grow up to be independent, self directed and resilient adults.

I don't know if my family knows about me blogging.
And my friends don't know that I am.
Should I be worried about what they think? Because I am not... -
My family is very supportive. They appreciate that I'm putting myself out there on a blog. I don't share with all of my in-laws, however. I guess I only bother to share my blog with family members who will get it. Mostly, I use my blog to keep me writing, whether or not family and friends appreciate it.
-
All my friends doesn't know by my blog..But my family support me and I love that.
Now I've new friends I know them from my blog @_@ -
If anything I feel bad for my wife who has to put up with my blogging. I wouldn't want her to ignore me if she had this addiction.
-
I have one friend who I shared my blog with and she checks in every night. My 13 y/o reads it and my husband if I show him a particular post. But the rest of my family? No way! I write about them sometimes and it's not something I would like them to see. They don't even know about my photography blog. I like my privacy, and it's the only thing I have that's just MINE.
-
Only my hubby and kids know that I blog, and of course some of the people who look over my shoulder. (I work in an internet cafe, that's why)
But anywhere, no one knows why I blog... no one cares I guess because everyone's busy. But blogging is my way of reaching other people with my ideas and asking them to correct me from my wrong ideas about life, if I may have one. Blogging is also my way of keeping notes on the occurrences in my life on a daily/weekly basis. It's therapeutic for me -
My family all know about my blogging but I don't think they really get it. They will ask about my blog every once in awhile but that's about it.
-
-
Members of my family live thousands of miles apart from eachother but I do email them links to posts that might interest them. No one has given any outright opinions either way.
Dad said he got all teary reading about PeeWee on my cat lover's blog so I guess that's a good thing. My sister helped me w/ issues on adhd since her oldest son has it. She's ahead of me on the learning curve.
Knock on wood that nobody tells me I am wasting my time, especially now that blog money is starting to be more than just nickles and dimes. -
my family and friends? they don't care. The only stress release they enjoy are getting what they want and gossiping people around them
