What Does Your BC User Name Mean?

Topics: blog, internet handle, user name
We've talked a lot about avatars before, but why did you choose your Blog Catalog user name? What does it mean to you? Mine is fairly generic, and has no special meaning other than I had to type in something! What about you and your Internet handle?

I picked mine because it's my pen name; it's a play of Marina del Rey (you can check my About Me on my blog, it explains it), as West LA, Marina del Rey, Venice and Santa Monica are all some of my favorite places in the whole world.

I had lots of ideas for blogs. Back when I was a preschool teacher aka Miss Liz, the kids called me Miss Lizzy. When I told the kids about lots of projects to be done, I referred to myself as being a Busy Lizzy. So there you go!
-
The one in my avatar is actually a ventriloquist doll! NOT! That's my daughter a few years back just before kindergarten. Let's see- I was an assistant teacher for about a year during my last year of night college. After I graduated with my ECE degree, I was a head teacher for about 4 years. Then I left that market and got a job that paid almost double. I am curious - what about me looks like I am good with kids? Is it the assumed silliness of anyone who'd wear flowers in their hair? The lack of psychotic facial characteristics? LOL!
-
Great question! I chose it because I wanted to include at least one of the initials in my name and relate it to something I favor, like writing letters. Also, it's catchy.

M stands for my first name, "Melinda"
Tyler stands for my last name "Tyler"
77 was my old taxi number when I used to drive
-
You know, I have only written one blog post about driving a taxi--and it was years after I drove in NYC, when I was driving a taxi in Montana while going to college. I've never blogged about the NYC taxi experiences, although I wrote about one in my memoir (which I am curently writing and blogging about). The one post about driving the taxi in Montana is called "Living in the Moment" and the link is: blog.melindaville.com/2009/01/30/living-in-the-moment.aspx
Most of my blog stories are centered around the things in my memoir; writing about my experiences as a former actor, punk rock musician, heroin addict, sex industry worker and my 15 year journey of recovery. -
I read your piece on the REACH program. I echo the sentiments of those who would love to hear more about driving a taxi in NYC. Also, I thought your site was most impressive. It has lots of features, but they don't get in the way of the writing. If I knew how to get one of those damn smiley faces, I'd put one here.

Anok: loosely translated means "Without master".
It is often cited or claimed to be the root word of "anarchy". Seemed appropriate
-
Encyclopedia Britannica says Anok is a mask-making style of African sculpture:

Pretty appropriate, given your picture!

If I call my username out loud, my cat shows up (sometimes).
Years ago, my ex and I needed a name to register on i can't remember what site. We tried the cat's name, Salomé, but it was taken. After tweaking it for a while, we found 'salomey5' was available.
I stuck with it ever since, for some reason. Not the funkiest name, but it's easy to remember. -
-
I didn't pick mine for any real reason. I was just stumped for a username on another site, and when I thought of sunnyberra it seemed easy to remember and I liked it. So, now I use it for most sites I join
-
I liked the imagery of two opposing ideas -- the freedom of the wind and the permanence of roots -- combined in a single thought package.

Harvey is the 6 foot rabbit in the movie with James Stewart. Avatar is the main user(pen)name of a close friend (R.I.P) whose forum musings I have translated on my blog.

i used to have a blog about the 'musing of a smart-ass chick' and my user name is a truncated version of that. of course that's no longer my blog, but u know....

Unlike a certain basketball player who won't be mentioned, I am actually a doctor (of philosophy) and my name is actually Jay...and I was born in 1966...
-
Simply my first and middle name, in lieu of the former name I mostly used on boards like this: LYNNEA OF HEAVEN.

Stillthinking was shortened from I'm Still Thinking About It, which is something that comes out of my mouth at least once a day. Especially at Starbucks with a line of people behind me spewing smoke from their ears.
-
Food Here is the name of my convenience store and blog! I wanted to use my real name, Mr. Ram Sylvester Venkatararam but it was too long.
THanks for asking!! -
Chicky is a nickname my friends have been calling me for years the 401 is a special birthday to me, one of my children. And yes she was born April Fools Day
-
-
It's a character from an anime that I can relate to. Another online community gave me this name, and I decided to use it in BC for the sheer heck of it.

Ophase indicates an experiment called "Zero phase" in physics.
I'm not using zero though. "O" is like zero anyway. -

I found my name while searching a name for the community of international blogging ladies I established.
I didn't want to use 'women' or 'female' in the name (too heavy, too dull) nor make it to 'ladies' (in line with 'Ladies Who Launch').
So MrsBlogInternational looked good and informative.
MrsBlog is a shorten version of it.
haven't checked however how many of MrsBlogs there are at the Web already....-
Mrs is known by me much more then Ms (since I have learnt English in Europe).
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mrs.
Mr. Blog would be actual once MrsBlog International mrsbloginternational.ning.com/ goes so well that I will establish the MrBlog community.
Eventually, once I am already a millionaire on those 2, I will establish one more, where all MrsBlogs and all MrBlogs can meet together and the trilogy will be completed!
p.s. in the real life there is no MrBlog yet as my Mr does not blog at all. But I am working on it!

Years back Ken (the techie one on this blog) was learning to fly. He never got as far as learning instrumentation for night and bad weather flying, so he remains a dayflyer.
-
About 100, but he hasn't flown for some time now, so he'd probably have to get some remedial flying in before being let out on his own again. It's difficult in Greece as all the airports are designated as military ones - do you remember that incident a couple of years ago where people taking photographs of planes were arrested for spying?
He used to be good at bumpy landings!
-
ckent27 = Clark Kent (my love for Superman)
27 = my age at the time I picked that.
Michael Rivers is what I wanted to use, but it wouldn't let me. HAHA -
DaivRawks is a "Hooked on Phonics" variant of "Dave Rocks".
My online nom-de-plume has been "Daiv" since 1987 or so, after a series of typos on online BBS's accidentally took my name from -David to -Davi (with much laughter) to -Daiv which stuck and has been with me ever since.
I saw a band in Chicago from Sweden not much later. I forget their name now, but their introduction was "We're so-and-so... we're from Sweden... and we RAWK!!"
When signing up for some online service, I needed a longer username than simply "Daiv" (too short for their rules), and I thought of that band and "DaivRawks" was born. I've used DaivRawks now, as my "Branded" name on Social Media since 1994. I'm on everything from Squidoo to Twitter with that same name, and it makes it easier for people to find me. -
My user name was the first thing that popped into my head when I registered. Calais is a city in France and 50 means nothing.
-
The meaning of my first name which was given to me by my maternal grandfather is "strong". It's a reference to the fact that I was a breech birth and that I struggled very hard for my life at birth. In a way it's also a prophetic utterance for that struggle to remain alive has continued throughout my life. My blogging "handle" and BC username is a name I chose that denotes the fact that I have twice stolen my life back from the grim reaper by surviving life threatening situations.
-
I always use my own name in each and every site and never use something out of blue. Here i have used my first name.

Lunais = I used to use Luna a lot and wanted to revamp it a bit. So the "French" version came out-->Lunais lol

Mt. Halcon is the fourth highest mountain in the Philippines. Its 2586 meters height towering over the hills and verdant mountains occupies the north-south mountain range of Mindoro Island, my place of birth. Around its slopes are found the eight ethnic minorities with their preserved culture and heritage and unaffected civilization, one of the few remaining here in the Philippines. Generally, these people are called the "Mangyan", the true bloodied “Halconites”.
-
I do not have the expertise (and physical prowess) to do that. Besides, Mt. Halcon already claimed hundreds of local mountaineer's lives. As an old saying goes, "The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.."
I was not able to climb the mountain but I had a lot of chance hearing the real Halconites' fascinating stories about the peak. And I treasure them very much... -
It's interesting you should say that. Two days ago, I saw a slideshow presentation given by someone who climbed Mt. Everest. His photographs of the mountain were beautiful and terrifying at the same time. There are so many ways to die mountain climbing, plus the overall sheer physical effort, it'll never happen for me. But if I ever made it to Kathmandu and then base camp one, that would be plenty good enough for me!
-
More of "Ambahan" (Mangyan poetry) just visit: www.mangyan.org/ambahan/index.html Thank you...

Well UTP is actually be the initials of my full name but I prefer....Uniquely Thought Provoked!!!
I actually have a section on my blog where I take suggestions of different abbreviations.
Give it a shot www.umarpirzada.com/blog/un-abbreviate-utp/ -
There are so many Gentledoves on the net that when I came up with Totton linnet poem, I adopted it as my new name, unfortunately on B.C you can't change names.

Half Crazy. It's a song by a Filipino band, Freestyle. And well, 'Half Crazy' (not the song) kinda describes my personality. Sometimes totally serious, sometimes totally different, I can be mature and immature. And no, I don't have dual personalities LOL.

My name is taken from
8posts.blogspot.com/ -
i have no personalites i guess. www.livtotravel.blogspot.com
-
-
its the name of the song I was listening to when I signed up. All of my user names are chosen like that
-
Caliza is a combination of my first and middle names (Catherine Elizabeth) and I use it all over the internet for stuff. On the off chance it's taken, I'll use Catliza or CalizaMati (Mati short for Matilda - which is taken from the book Matilda by Roald Dahl).

gamertag in xbox. Forename and Surname sort of thing. Not Thebi Gandy T like i've previously said though. 'The Big' is just a slight over exaggeration of my roundness

It's a hacky sack trick. Curious folks could see a demo of a drifter at footbag.org, except usually people start to back away slowly when I talk about hacky sack tricks.

Good question! I actually wrote a blog about it once!
radioflyer1980.wordpress.com/2008/11/23/etymology-of-an-e-mail-address/
For those who don't want to read the whole story, it was my CB handle way back when. -
Alan - my name
G - the first letter of my surname
NW - north west - I used to live in the NW of England (I don't now so that bit isn't relevant)
Been using the name all over the place since I set it up as my email address on an AOL account many years ago... -
It is reflective of what i did and do for a living and where I am located. I am a professional bass angler and radio host, (retired), and a tournament angler. I live in delaware so it is is Delawarebass, indicating where I live and what I fish for-(largemouth bass).
-
That is funny. I caught a 12 pounder in Florida, and I caught one that was almost the state record in delaware at 10.16 pounds.
check out my blog at giantlargemouthbass.blogspot.com
I have pics and videos there as well. Steve That picture is wrong I updated the profile. That was a photo of a trainer I did a site for at Golds gym where I work out.
-
mentoringbyjenny is, I am a mentor training people who are in network marketing and needs help to become successful

My name just has to do with the website I work on most of the time. HeadStonesGenealogy.com
-
At this time we are in southern CA. in the Orange County are. We will be up here for about another 6 month to a year then we will be off too a new place. But we do have volunteers in Fl,WA,and OK at this time. Always looking for more. The time frame all depends on size of cemeteries and depending in what gets in the way of life.
-
It means "the name, minus my middle name, that my parents gave me when I was born." That's rather long so I just used "Joel Klebanoff", without the space, instead.
-
Mine is simple - Jendyptp = Jen Did You Pack The Passports? (clearly the answer would be no) but that is indeed my blog address! x

No great mystery here... I like to experiment with energy, gravity, and physics. These are my favorite reading topics as well. So I have always loved LAB COATS so... my personal vision was that of the classic carzy hair'ed nutso scientist.
-
You know... now that you put it like that... kind of makes me sound a bit like a cross dresser... NOT THAT THERE IS ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT... IF its your thing. But its not really mine.
I guess the lab coat just makes you look smart. Might be the pocket protector too...or the really BIG Texas Instruments Calculator sticking out of the pocket... Quenticential NERD

It's my first initial, my last name and 1134 is a time that my husband and I see a lot. We used to long distance date, and we'd talk morning and late night, and it just seemed like around that time when we'd look at the clock it would be exactly 11:34. Honestly, no other time stands out. It can be mid-morning on a weekend and I'll be cleaning and I haven't looked at a clock since I've woken up and I'll just walk through the kitchen and glance, and there is 11:34 staring back at me.

An educated vagabond was a term created by my friend Bess. She explained she is an educated vagabond because she travels the world, never settling in one place for too long or really unpacking, but always pursuing an education in the process. The education is academic but also based on worldly experiences.
Like Bess, I continue to travel in pursuit of an education that is academic, emotional, intellectual and spiritual. I am an educated vagabond! -

Nothing exciting for me. Warnie after the Australian cricketer - one of my two nicknames when I lived in Melbourne!

My brain is more like a Linux box than anything else, because it can do many things at the same time quickly, but requires lots of attention and understanding as to exactly what it's doing. Also, it rarely falls prey to the nasty "viruses" of narrow-minded thinking, blatant ignorance, and naivete. There's a different and more general explanation of why everyone's brain is like a Linux server on my blog also in case anyone is interested.
-
i made mine after hurricane katrina hit. i needed a new e-mail b/c my e-mail was hosted by my school, tulane, and their server was done for weeks/months. i was at a friends grandmas' house far away from my home, feeling low, and i opened a book of poems and the first one i saw was one called honeymoon apples. i liked it.
