Heres a jpg of what my screens look like on a typical day. How about you guys?

Large version here: blogcatalog.com/~pub/discussions/workstation_nine.jpg

(I should probably mention that I have dual monitors which is why mine is so large)

    @nine
Forgive me for having a blonde day but, are you expecting us to post screenshots of our desktops?
  2. ekim941
Whoa! Is that two or do you have an insanely wide monitor?
  3. drdental
I'm running 3 21" LCD's at any one time. The life of a web designer as you know, Nine.
    1. ender
when i get seriously rolling, i have my 17" laptop screen and my 21" flatscreen rolling.

of course, if my other half will go to work tomorrow, i'll hook the laptop up to the big-arse flatscreen TV instead ....
  4. crkian
I did something similar to that a while ago

    About like this:

    Lots of tabs and stuff...
  6. markstoneman
Can't get it on a screenshot, since I use much more than fits on my 12" iBook. I switch between a bunch of windows using Expose, which I find faster than virtual desktops. (I'm talking about a Mac here, and I'm still on Tiger.)

    or the big version:

you caught me just after a restart and i've hardly got anything open at the moment. in fact, i just realized my email's not up. ACK!

lots you can't see minimized down in the dock.
    1. ekim941
      Ender, your A.D.D. is showing.
    2. ender
      lol

that was a MILD example, ekim. usually there's also textedit, thunderbird, possibly illustrator or indesign. there are another 2 or three instances of firefox with multiple tabs.
    3. ekim941
"you caught me just after a restart"

      And already multitasking.

      Oh look, Something shiny!!
      (I'm just messing with ya)
    4. ender
      heh, i know.
  8. kdawg68
You know, looking at the screenshots - one thing I could never do was the whole minimized screen thing. I just keep a bunch of tabs open each on their own full size webpage screen and toggle back and forth. Just one of my oddities (of which there are many).
    1. ender
i keep multiple windows with loads of tabs open - basically, i have my workhorse window, which includes twitter, BC, BBC, my blog, and a few others. another FF window with tabs for the kingdom of loathing wiki with multiple tabs, another one for each web project i have going with multiple pertinent tabs for each one.

but, it's easier to do this with the way the mac does minimized windows - you see a miniature of the page down in the dock. if i don't minimize, i only have to put the mouse in the lower left corner and i see an image of each of the windows open.

makes it all pretty easy to discern which window i want.

      me too!

    Tabbed browsing for me

    screenshot

    and my very cute nephews
    1. JillSaxon
Yup, love tabbed browsing. I nearly wet myself when first introduced to the concept.

      I didn't though.
    2. crpitt
I feel blessed knowing that Jillian
    3. JillSaxon
LOL. That was better than what I was originally going to say
    4. crpitt
Lmao, I am glad you didn't go there, if there is were you meant

My workplace consists 20 Mac G5- 13 Mac G4- 9 PC's, 11 Printers, 2 27 inch plasma TV's and 11 Employees. I dont own all this stuff if you were wondering but it would be nice:)
  11. Anok
When I'm researching a post I'm like Kdawg - except more OCD. LOL. At any given point in time during that process, I will have as many as 7 or 8 windows open, each with as many as 10 tabs open, and every window is organized by topic, each tab by importance, the first tab always my search engine.

Then I have a separate window for e mail, blog page, BC, Digg, and sometimes a window for IM. Or whatever other workhorse type stuff I need.

Yeesh. I'm really a nut case!
  12. DocKC
Wow! How cool is seeing so many of your computer screens?? What people have on their computer screens can be a very personal thing, you know! I feel as though I'm the room with you all. The closeness is overwhelming! LMAO! Love it!

OK, I just work from a simple (but awesome) laptop that has a million screens minimized. It's MY mess, so at least I know where everything is. Smiles!
  13. thegoodknife
at aminimum the following apps are open at all times

    FireFox for browsing
    ThunderBird for email
    Pidgin for chatting
    Dreamweaver for coding
Photoshop for slicing up nine's crazy designs
    SSH for server stuff
    Itunes for tunage
    uTorrent for this and that
    FeedDemon for my RSS
    1. ender
oh yeah. i forgot to log back in to YIM and AIM, too.
  14. Anok
OK, here is a dumb question. How do you get a screenshot?!
    1. Anniepooh
Hit the "print screen" button and then open "paint" and click on "edit" and then "paste" and voila!
    2. ender
of course, if you're on a mac, you just hit apple-shift-3 and there it is.
or, if you want just part of the screen, you hit apple-shift-4 and then you get crosshairs so you can take a partial screenshot.

    3. Anniepooh
...and who asked you? Go 'way lil monkey. (and now that I said that, she'll have a MAC)
    4. ender
naw, anok would not give in to corporate big name. she's got some little pieced together with spare parts and yet totally awesome home-brew machine. prolly runs XP and ubuntu.
    5. Anniepooh
      Duct tape?
    6. crpitt
      Duct tape for ender? ha!
    7. Anok
Hey, I used to have a computer that was all made form spare parts! But my dad bought me this one for my last college graduation. He wanted me to have a bright shiny 'puter

But erm, yeah...the programs...those are a different story!!!

Hey look! I did it! This is me, typing to you! hehehe

    8. ekim941
Dang Girl, you need some more toolbars
    9. Anok
You think? Coz I used to have more LOL!
    10. crpitt
Also you need to upgrade firefox

I forgot to say well done, so well done!
    11. ekim941
      Yep, you need more toolbars.

I can still see a little bit of actual web page in there.
    12. Anok

To both of you! Just !
    13. crpitt
Is that a sexual thing? heh
    14. Anok
      Maybe?
    15. ekim941
      I'll yours if you mine
    16. crpitt
I don't know who the is directed at? heh.
    17. kdawg68
      good lord!
    18. PetLvr
Aha! Caught! I see it's ANOK who hasn't been stumbling from my 'friend' requests! See that Stumble 4?
      *sniffles*
    19. Anok
I don't know what that means? Petlvr, have you been sending me secret messages? ARGH!

I actually haven't used my stumble account in a while, but what does that 4 mean?
    20. crpitt
He means the bit were you can see the number 4 on your stumble tool bar by the thumbs up, you have to click that.
    21. Anok
      Hey! Those weren't from petlvr!
    22. PetLvr
No, I didn't send them *this* time .. but, perhaps in the future .. now that you know that exists
  15. PetLvr
does *anybody* really need an on-screen keyboard?

    I mean.. REALLY?
    1. thegoodknife
when you are using a Apple keyboard on a PC you do.
    2. PetLvr
oh. I did not know that.
    3. PetLvr
      ............................ however, might I suggest...

GET A PC KEYBOARD FOR YOUR PC!
    4. markstoneman
@Daniel: Why? What keys are missing? And can't you remap your keys?
    5. NINE
I did remap that key but the program I am using is shady. Sometimes its faster just to shortcut (win+K) my keyboard up and press the button than mess with the remap program.
  16. ender

I am surprised that no one mentioned the blurred out graphics I have in photoshop back there, you can see the early stages of the site updates.
    1. PetLvr
btw - i noticed that ratings section in the new sidebar - but, now that you mention and I take a little close look - those tabs looks interesting.
    2. acousticguitarist
Have you tried using png's instead, the compression is better
  18. acousticguitarist
Today it was a lot like this at the house of

    acousticguitarist.wordpress.com

  19. helloitsme
My desktop wallpaper at work is a collage of recent mugshots of suspects' cases I've worked on. Probably not too appropriate to post it here, but it makes me happy to see all those sullen faces.
