Oh Max Headroom Ha! I haven't seen that for ages

    WHat happened to pogo sticks?
    1. ThriftShopRomantic
I keep waiting for Max Headroom to be on DVD. That was one of my favorite shows in 8th grade.
    2. trailofpen
Max Headrom, and the 80's in general, seemed like the result of a huge marketing acid trip.

What ever happened to the smurfs?
    1. jeremyjanson
They got captured by trolls, turned in to dumplings, and eaten.
  3. dcarroll
When I was a kid there was a television show called "Sea Hunt." Lloyd Bridges was a diver named Mike Nelson. It was great! Maybe if I saw it now I wouldn't think so, but every year or so I search DVDs and it's never been recorded. It vexes me why it hasn't made it but Gilligan has!

I guess I had a boring moment today as well.
    1. lisleman
I watched that show. very cool submarine
    2. SweetViolet
      Sea Hunt had a submarine??

I remember the show well...my brother was crazy to get SCUBA gear. For younger members, Lloyd Bridges was the father of Beau and Jeff Bridges, both of whom inherited his eyebrows.

Radio stations actually manned by DJs who (gasp) CHOSE music?
  8. cooper
I saw Max headroom for the first time not all that long ago. It sounds like it was a ground breaker.
    1. ThriftShopRomantic
Really? Now I'm all curious where you saw it running.

They ran it again once in the 1990s on the Independent Film Channel.
  9. Rivy
I'm having a gay time this afternoon.

Uh...I remember when I didn't feel a need to explain which I just said. (smile)
    1. jafabrit
I know what you mean, I can't say I feel a bit queer either.
  10. HollytheHousewife
    Who is max headroom
    1. ThriftShopRomantic
      Here ya go- en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Max_Headroom_(TV_series)

It was pretty ahead of its time in terms of predicting technology and where marketing/media would end up.
  11. trailofpen
What happened to music and why does the radio spew out so much crap that it's been rendered useless to me? What happened to walking outside and not getting sunburnt? What happened to family values and family oriented programming on the television? What happened to honesty? What happened to marriage?
  12. Sam1982
What ever happened to Georgie Pie?

And now that I've said that I realise that I'm possibly the only person that knows what Georgie pie actually is
    1. tcinvestor
Don't know who Georgie Pie is but whatever happened to Wyle E. Coyote?
    2. Sam1982
He fell off a cliff and landed in a big mushroom cloud of dust
    3. tcinvestor
Damn those Acme catapults..the things never work right.

Suspicious Minds - best cover of a Elvis song by ANY group EVER!
    2. trailofpen
They are stuck in the 80's where they belong!
    3. aningeniousname
The fine young cannibals were from my home town. After they split the lead singer moved to New Zealand where I think he has some kind of eco-hotel.

what about Adam 12 and Emergency?

    Whatever happened to ALF?
    1. celticmusicfan
Now that's my fave show ALF.
    2. Sam1982
I think tv needs ALF again - i dont even care that the "man in a suit" effects look out dated by todays standards. It was a good show!
    3. Deray28
Did he go back to Melmac?
    4. celticmusicfan
Yeah I like the way Alf Anne have this usual banter. That giant roach episode was so funny.

What ever happened to driving without talking on the cellphone or texting a message?
  20. SweetViolet
    Whatever happened to critical thinking?
    1. jeremyjanson
It got replaced by positive thinking.
    2. SweetViolet
Not a good swop, I'll warrant.
  21. Sam1982
Whatever happened to feeling safe in your own neighbourhood - enough to let your kids go outside and play all day unsupervised, and not having to lock your car when you quickly duck into the shops to pick something up.
    1. amybyrd21
I have that where I am at. I live a ways off the road and leave my door unlocked all the time now my neighbor left for texas. My big dog doesnt let any one in the yard with out permission.
  22. Deray28
    Whatever happened to the Thundercats?
    1. jeremyjanson
80's haircuts fell out of style.
    2. Sam1982
there is supposed to be a movie due out next year - I dont see it being released that soon though

But with the success of transformers and GI-JOE it shouldnt be too far away
    3. Deray28
I saw the preview for the GI-JOE movie. My friend Alex who is super fan of 80's cartoons (we actually were at the premier of Transformers 2) was not exited though. I don't know if that one will be a success.
    4. Sam1982
I have my doubts too - but I'll go and see it regardless, which I'm sure others will be the same, therefore it will make money either way
    5. ThriftShopRomantic
Oh how about He-Man and She-Ra?

Or Jem and the Holograms? (I really wanted pink or purple hair after that cartoon.)
    6. Sam1982
Masters of the Universe is also rumoured to have a film coming out - aside from the dolf lundgren and courtney cox film that came out in the 80s

what ever happened to lawn jarts?

not the plastic things they have now, the metal tipped potentially dangerous toys our parents gave us to throw at each other?
    1. timethief
... Don't tell anyone but I have a set of them.
  24. nothingprofound

  25. Floormodel
what ever happened to... chia pets?
  26. aningeniousname
Slinkys, you never see a slinky any more. There was a time in the 80's that every staircase in the known world could boast at least one slinky, we were living through some kind of slinky golden age and we never even knew it. We never knew it.
    1. Floormodel
I've seen them but they're plastic now. apparently children now-a-days are too fragile for metal Slinkys. Plastic Slinkys are Slinky posers, not real Slinkys..
    2. aningeniousname
Why would someone even dare to believe that a plastic slinky would be a viable idea???? The old titanium ones lasted 3 days why rush to make one with the life span of a suicidal moth?
  27. melindaville
Whatever happened to pinched and rolled acid-washed jeans? (take me back to the 80's!).
    1. aningeniousname
      @Melinda
I made mine into "Daisy Dukes" so I can go out on a Sunday morning and wash my car for the entertainment of lady neighbours and unisex passers by.
    2. melindaville
Ha ha ha ha. OMG. I can just picture you in those Daisies!

I'm actually surprised you haven't been arrested by now.
    3. aningeniousname
I have been but they can't silence my peachy bottom! I demand freedom of peach!
    4. melindaville
      LOL! Freedom of "peach"

I think you are getting close to needing 'time out'

Also, your comment made me think of this: "I really love your peaches wanna shake your tree (Steve Miller--and YES, I am that old to remember that song).
    5. aningeniousname
I don't know that one, only one I know by him is "Abracadabra" The only peach songs that come readily to mind are that Presidents of the US song and the one by the Stranglers.
    6. melindaville
And some right cute peaches you have there, Ardy.

Can I call you Ardy? Please?
    7. aningeniousname
You can if you call me Ardy Schwarzenpeacher "The assinator"
    8. melindaville
      LOLOLOLOL.

And you owe me a new keyboard.
  28. Floormodel
how about Clackers? two glass balls on strings that you were supposed to clack together but my older brother used as a weapon.
    1. tcinvestor

What ever happened to Carmen San Diego?
    1. ThriftShopRomantic
Oh, I used to love playing one of those computer games at a friend's house. It was a blast!
  32. melindaville
    Whatever happened to Cheez-Whiz?

My mother used to "experiment" with dinners all the time (which explained why I was so thin as a child). The worst was a tater-tot and cheeze-whiz casserole. My God that was punishment.
  33. ThriftShopRomantic
You reminded me, Melinda- I was watching the movie "Manhunter" the other night-- basically the first version of Thomas Harris' Red Dragon. And it was done either in the late 80s or early 90s.

The characters walked through a grocery store cereal aisle. And on the shelves were:

    Mr. T and E.T. cereals.

I had totally forgotten about those!
    1. melindaville
Wow. That just goes to show how out of it I was in the 80's. I totally don't remember a 'Mr T' or 'ET' cereal!

Course, I wasn't really eating much in those days.
    2. ThriftShopRomantic
Well, it probably wouldn't have done much for your nutritional values, anyway.

It was funny how WRONG it seemed to see in the store among the Frosted Flakes and Coco Krispies.
    3. melindaville
It was wrong. Sounds like a total abomination.

Nabisco ought to be ashamed of themselves.

      I always liked this cereal:

  34. greencurmudgeon
This rather reminds me of "Wacky Packs" - which were bogus advertisements for well known products. For example:

    And:

We need these send ups, they're fun.
    1. melindaville
I could have used those gloves with my first husband!
    2. greencurmudgeon
      This one brings back memories:

    3. melindaville
I remember Chock Full of Nuts when I lived in New York in the 80's. I don't think they are around anymore! At least, I don't remember seeing them.
    4. aningeniousname
"Chock full of nuts" would be a more apt name for a brand of hot dogs.
    5. melindaville
      @anin: Or a mental hospital
    6. aningeniousname
      Or squirrel shit fertiliser.
    7. greencurmudgeon
Believe it or not, Chock Full o'Nuts is a going concern:

    8. melindaville
