What topics are most are important to you at present?

What I am most interested in is likely to be a specialized area. It's therapeutic fitness programs for people suffering from problems with their joints such as those with arthritis, rheumatism and/or fibromyalgia.

Why is hotdog eating considered a sport?
    1. voodooKobra
I second that question. IMO, it's an exercise in gluttony.

Ah but you put the word exercise in your post exercise = fitness!

Joke joke, I agree, how can stuffing your face (something I enjoy and am good at) be called a sport! :S
    3. melindaville
Have you ever seen one of those hotdog eating contests? It's the most digusting thing I have ever witnessed. And it is actually on ESPN! Like it is a sport! I felt like I was going to puke when I was watching it.

They train their stomachs to expand.
    5. melindaville
      They are training to be:

      GROSS!
    6. dbowles1017
Maybe, but atleast they will keep that title in america!

      USA! USA!USA!
    7. melindaville
LOL. We do have *that* dubious distinction going on for us: fattest country in the world. Yay us!

When it comes to physical fitness, my largest concern is always awareness.

Every time i go to a gym, I see nothing but people running on machines while looking at televisions/listening to music. They try desperately hard to IGNORE all the important signs their body is giving them. This doesn't make sense to me, since the greatest joy I get from working out is the mental/physical connection. The LAST thing I want to do is ignore my body.

And people wonder why they get injuries from working out?
    1. voodooKobra
When I exercise, I listen to music. My goal is not to ignore any signs my body might be giving me, but rather to help me zone out and daydream. If something is going wrong, I can usually feel it.

People get injuries when they don't know when to stop, usually.
    2. dbowles1017
People get injured because they don't know what they are doing. I listen to music all the time when I lift/run.
    3. melindaville
I also listen to music--because I need that for inspiration. I seriously cannot work out unless I am listening to hard rock and roll! Then I feel I can take on the world!

I did a post on that ' Best music to listen to while working out' .

      Conclusion

      Hard rock or hiphop
Metalica, DMX, Jay-Z, AC\DC, Scooter, Guns N’Roses, Iron Maiden, Bon Jovi, ATB, Billy Idol….

I am very intrested in topic on gaining a flat tummy after having multiple children. I just talked to a trainer and I was told to do some crunches. A year later my tummy looks the same
    1. melindaville
Crunches don't work for that! The best thing I do for my tummy is to get a bar that you use to do pull-ups on. When you are hanging from that, lift up your legs so they are straight out in front of you, then lower slowly so they are hanging, then pull up your legs straight again. My tummy is flatter than it's ever been doing this.
    2. dbowles1017
Diet. Crunches alone won't make you lose weight.
    3. mugshot
You need a healthy diet where you lose weight in a controlled way (not crash dieting) a diet losing around a kilogram a week means your likely to maintain your target weight when you achieve it.

Melinda has given a good exercise for the stomach, on top of this you need to exercise regularly to build up your fitness levels. jogging, cycling even just fast walking for 30 minutes a day can make a huge difference if your not very active normally. Mix these exercises with light exercises for the muscles such as calisthenic exercises (ones that use your body weight only) will keep your body tight.

If you are wishing to lose alot of fat then its important to drink a good quantity of water on a daily basis (well this is important anyway) and practise stretching exercises to ensure you keep elasticity in your skin. Have you ever seen someone who has lost weight quickly without any exercise? They tend to be left with excess skin.

Another top tip is to eat little and often, eat six small meals instead of three larger ones. This will ensure that your metabolic rate stays at its highest level throughout the day and also means your body gets used to smaller meals, its the way bodybuilders eat to lose fat while keeping their body mass.

P.S this is basic stuff you would need a real plan to achieve your goal properly

P.P.S Dont always listen to personal trainers, just because they are called a PT doesnt mean they know what they are doing! ...IMO
    4. dbowles1017
Yeah, becoming a PT is as easy as going to gym and pretending you know what your doing. A CSCS (certified strength & condition specialist) trainer is your best bet.

its amazing Mr. DB talks sense! your right mate here in the uk it takes 6 weeks to get qualified as a PT doing a part time course that you cant fail.

A real qualification is needed like a CSCS to really know what your talking about!

P.S I dont have any qualifications in fitness, mine is just knowledge through personal education.

Don't forget to take care of your skin, too. You might lose the belly fat, but because pregnancy changes your skin (literally) you are likely to have some "hang off" from the loss of fat, but still having loose/thin/stretchy skin.

Drinking water helps, healthy diets help (to retain elasticity) and you may need to take vitamin supplements to help regain your old skin.
