Same thing I do every day: use what I need, recycle, all the stuff my parents learned in the Great Depression. Also, wrote a post ( apatheticlemming.blogspot.com/2009/04/earth-day-2009-dont-stop-breathing-to... ) with a somewhat unconventional message.

I participated in a community wide event that featured a composting demonstration, a visit to a community garden, a tree pruning demonstration, tree planting, nature walks on forest trails and on beaches, environmental speeches made by children, a gorgeous display of kid's art, an adult art and crafts display, a recycled clothing fashion show, a great luncheon, and so much else that I'm exhausted. It was grand!
I also prepared two posts for Earth Day and submitted them to Blogger's Unite:

I posted this short piece about an recycled art.

Lay around feeling sick, mostly, and wrote this blog post: yogaforcynics.blogspot.com/2009/04/loving-earthone-day-year.html

I went and played tennis against the wall. I transfer my potential energy to kinetic energy in the tennis ball, and the ball hits the wall transferring that energy into sound energy and more potential energy. The sound energy then travels off and dissipates into potential energy and more kinetic energy and I have no idea how this is a green act, but I think it's pretty interesting stuff and could be entirely wrong. Hooray for pseudo high school physics!

I generated a little more trash than I would on a normal day, drove a few extra pointless and needless miles, left a few needless lights on around the house.
So I ended up spending a couple extra bucks on gas in tough economic times, what the hell earth day only comes once a year.-
haha now that's a celebration! Reminds me of the last part of that Denis Leary song
"You know what Im gonna do
Im gonna get myself a 1967 Cadillac Eldorado convertible
Hot pink, with whale skin hubcaps
And all leather cow interior
And big brown baby seal eyes for head lights (yeah)
And Im gonna drive in that baby at 115 miles per hour
Gettin' 1 mile per gallon,
Sucking down Quarter Pounder cheeseburgers from McDonalds
In the old fashioned non-biodegradable styrofoam containers
And when Im done sucking down those greeseball burgers
Im gonna wipe my mouth with the American flag
And then Im gonna toss the styrofoam containers right out the side
And there aint a goddamn thing anybody can do about it"

Nothing special for earth "day," but we recycle everything we can to the point where we generate very little garbage. We've also been buying only florescent light bulbs, are using cloth napkins instead of paper, stopped getting the newspaper delivered and read it online instead. And we voted for Obama, who is doing a lot for our ecology.

Woops... Looks like I included too many links in the last one.
Anyway, for Earth Day, I took several steps on my path as a Global Alchemist.
I have started working with a partner, who is a long term meditator with a vision. Gandhi said "We must become the change we want to see on the planet"
My friend Tamo likes to say "Global Alchemy is the art and science of becoming the change you want to see in the world and expressing that into the world through heart centered visionary engagement"
We have a contest running from Earth Day to May Day on our site to celebrate the launch of our site and our coaching program. We also have a free introductory e-course (with audio and written material), to share the basic principles & techniques of Global Alchemy with anyone who wants to learn.
Take a look: GA-SpiritualLifeCoaching.com/
We have also set a goal to reach 100,000 people with the message of Global Alchemy by Earth Day in 2010. This, of course, is only possible if people really recognize the value of this message and share it with the people they care about...
Who wants to help?
keep smiling,

I celebrated Earth Day by getting plastered.
It seemed like a really good idea at the time. In retrospect, not so much.
However, I think that Earth Day palaver is complete BS; everyday should be Earth day. -
I went to an Earth Day thingy in DC. I saw The Flaming Lips. I ate fries. I took a picture of my son with a vegan yellow ball. I saw a lot of butts. Took a picture of one. I wrote a post about it. It includes all of the above.
And Gaius Baltar.

I read what Oprah said I should do, I wrote this post: praisescience.blogspot.com/2009/04/this-one-goes-out-to-very-special.html and I almost ran out of gas and am broke so I didn't drive as far as I was gonna and walked instead. Though that last one wasn't FOR Earth Day, it just happened to happen on Earth Day
