My boys constantly amaze me. Not just in a "I'm their Mom" kinda way either. I see the people they are becoming and it pushes me to be a better me, for myself and for them.

My oldest faced something that has always terrified him, in order to use his bravery to make others stronger.

It made me curious to know what others have done, that may have terrified them, but they trudged through. Or perhaps you can share your thoughts on bravery itself.

Drove in Boston traffic, navigated parts of Route 1 and 25 miles on 128/95. Don't laugh, I HATE traffic and the drivers around here scare the crap outta me.

I wouldn't laugh, few things in the world are as scary as driving among the masses of overly-caffeinated, sleep-deprived, stressed and ready to rage humans. Sorry, did I make it worse ?

I like to think there's a certain amount of bravery in each opinionated blog post I put up. I know that sounds cliche and a bit hokey, but if you've ever known any other horseplayers, they are the most mlitantly opinionated bunch there is. It takes a bit of courage to predict winners as much as a day in advance, post it for all to see, and then be open to the praise or criticism that returns as a result. It's a bit like trying to be a Nostradameus.

Apart from that, I really connected with your story about your son. I named my son after the bravest human being I've ever been aware of, and did so specifically that he might acquire some of that bravery. Like you say, I think many folks that thump their chests about being brave have ersatz heroism, so real bravery is somethign I greatly admire .

I'm w/ you, real bravery is something I greatly admire too. And I got to see it in the small face of my 8 year old, life is amazing.

Nothing in particular today. Often, though, simply daring to be optimistic and getting on with the business of life can amount to something that approximates courage.

That was a good one. Daring to be optimistic is huge.
