I would buy a harpsichord and become a mad harpsichordist.

Benjamin Franklin comes to mind. Between inventing things like bifocals and the Franklin stove, setting up the Patent Office (after having a hand in writing the Constitution), and being an active publisher, he had an interestingly checkered career.

I would make sure my immunizations were up to date. I would like to be an observer the most. Look at the shops with dresses and abolish corsets.

That would be the 1700s...for sure I would want to be in England and be a member of an aristocratic family because:

Poor people lived in unimaginable squalor...
In Scotland the Clearances were going on...
In France the aristos were being introduced to Madame Guillotine...
The rest of Europe was a collection of little warring duchies: crowns were not secure, the poor were destitute, the aristos fortunes rose and fell with who won the latest squabble...
In America either the Brits were oppressing the colonists, or the colonists were in open rebellion: open war...

The only place that was reasonably stable was England, for all that by the end of the century the king was a madman who wandered about the palace talking to himself and winding his clocks and the Prince Regent was a pompous, profligate playboy.

To ride around on horses without have to worry about crossing roads or traffic would be brilliant.

    Itssujan,
If you are bent on world conquest, I'd advise you to go to Bavaria on the 1st of May of 1776 to join the fledging Illuminati.

when i first stayed in Marrakech 15 years ago life was kind of 18c, in some of the rural areas here it still is, no electricity, riding donkies instead of cars, all food from your land.......

18th century - depends on what conditions you land in. If rich and powerful, life could be good but if you're poor you're doomed to poverty, misery and squalor till death frees you. If you take contemporary ideas into a past world, people would probably consider you mad or even lynch you, depending on the place.

Could it be that visionaries like Leonardo Da Vinci were actually time travellers and remembered traces of the future?

Link dropping! Never dropped in the 18th century unless you let go of it!
Try again. Born 1680 in England. Travelled to the New World in 1700 in search of adventure and wide open spaces. It is now 1741. I would be me, and I would be a woodsman like I am now, and I would run the woods like I do now.
      Regards, Le Loup.

Sweetie, what has Alexander the Great got to do with the eighteenth century? :-) Me? I would be a lady in waiting at the French court, a companion to the beautiful and tragic Marie Antionette.

Hmmm. I'd love it. I already know how to make cheese, milk, drive horses and shoot. I'd probably be right at home! lol

I would be surprised by the incest, cocaine use, and disregard for human life. It would remind me of New Jersey.

I would travel around and listen to musical performances, and note performance practice in my diaries for modern musicians to learn from.

I want to be in the wild, wild West as a bounty hunter armed with present-day weapons and war gadgets ...
