I'm a Brazilian reporter and I have traveled around the world. Generally people loves Brazil but I have found some silly questions about my country even on bc.

First of all, we speak Portugese and our capital is not Buenos Aires. hahahaha

Please, I am curious what you know, like, dislike etc about Brazil.

Sexy women with fake butts and fake boobs.
    1. nogueira
Wow, It's the steriotype about Brazil as we think here all americans are very much conservative and racist.

Fake butts, fake boobs and fake breats are more common in USA.
    2. trailofpen
Brazil is the mecca of plastic surgery.
    3. tonytovar
      nogueira,

That's funny, because the stereotype you just describe, "conservative and racist", seems to be the my personal stereotype of Brazilians in the US.
    4. R1VERT1LT
Don't speak of something you know nothing about FYI... Brazilian Butts have nothing fake about them, and they are most probably the sexiest in the World.

Rio de Janeiro is one of the most beautiful cities in the World... no doubt about that. Even though the resources in Brazil are divided in half between 99% and 1% of the population, the Brazilian people have a joy for life unlike any other culture.

      Brazil is beautiful!

You need to read more newspaper but I know you like jokes and you're not serious. Have fun with your silly jokes if you want to.
    2. dbowles1017
Im being serious. My instructor told me about the jiu jitsu gangs
    3. nogueira
I never know when you are being serious and showing some respect. I don't take you serious because I have been seeing silly comments made for you that are very much disrespectful in many discussions.Jiu jitsu gangs? Yes, there are just a few in Rio de Janeiro and now these stupid people are disappearing due the fact of a severe action on them by the police.

Well, the image of USA is worse than Brazil all around the world. Europeans don't like Americans. That is one more challenge to Obama. The anti american feeling gain the world wherever you go. It's time to change the way Americans see themselves in this planet. They are losing power. And it will not stop. That's history.
    4. dbowles1017
I want to change my answer to very mean and insulting people.

Trail said it all, almost. I share an office with a guy from Rio. He also always talks about the slums and how they are off limits even to the cops. Even Santa got shot at b/c he was arriving in a helicopter, a threat to the drug lords.
  4. nogueira
NO, USA is the Mecca of plastic surgery. It seems you like or understaning a lot about fake boob....hahahaha
  5. FreakSmack
When I think Brazil, it makes me think of think New Orleans. Stay on the main drag don't wander off or you have a really really good chance of being robbed, beaten , or killed. Well, I've heard in Brazil you are kidnapped and held for ransom.
    1. DailyBeerReview
That's Colombia. I don't have any Brazil input, though.
    2. trailofpen
Held for ransom and threatened with boob implant surgery!
    3. FreakSmack
Damn Brazilians! Forcing their fake boobs on everyone! I hear plastic surgery is mandated by the brazilian gov't, though you can get the butt implants instead of the breast.

Since I've never actually been to Brazil I'm sure any image I have of it is totally distorted.

a country where, like Cap Verde and Portugal the dark skinned people are seen and treated as second class citizens.

I don’t know much about Brazil, but from what I heard it sounds like a wonderful place. Now, I am from Chicago and we lost the Olympics to Rio. Can’t say it was a bad choice. After the China Olympics, who could top China? Brazil could in its own unique way. I look forward to watching the Rio Olympics, even if I am pissed that Chicago lost.
    1. nogueira
Come to Rio and you will love it. You realized Brazil has a complete wrong image.

      Only in your dreams.
    1. trailofpen
Hahaha. You just proved what Europeans say: Brazilians know nothing but their country. How people there can be so idiot. I can't stop laughing and I comment in this discuss in order to write an article about BRAZILIAN IGNORANCE. I suggest noguiera to improve their education and visit USA. As I know noguiera where black people are treated as second class is BRAZIL. Just take a look what Brazilians are done to Anderson Silva but I understand you noguiera. You don't have time to read...
    2. FreakSmack
nogueira - I agree with you visiting Brazil would be a great way to improve my education. I just don't know if it's worth being kidnapped by a Jiu jitsu gang, then, (while being held for ransom mind you) having the Brazililian gov't come in and strap me into a chair and force me to watch video footage of them hurling verbal insults at dark skinned people while they give me government mandated plastic surgery. No Thanks, I'l remain an ARROGANT AMERICAN, who doesn't care about contries other than the USA. Besides you saw what we did to Obama, we made him our leader.
    3. calais50
You are very rude, nogueira. I am an American and I bet I know 10 times the general information about countries of the world, including current events, as you do!

I know it was the home to a whole slew of classical music composers like A. Carlos Gomes, whose works influenced Verdi; Leopoldo Miguez; Ernesto Nazareth; João Teixeira Guimarães (João Pernambuco); and Meyer Duque Estrada. But then I'm writing a book on it

I also know that it is the home of the the Amazon rainforest, Pernambuco wood, which is used in the making of bows for stringed instruments, 188 different languages, 67 tribes of people with no contact with Western civilization, as well as a little about their history as a Portuguese colony, something about their government, economy, etc.

What's your point? There are ignorant and educated people everywhere, and yes, I'm American.

Flora Purim, Airto, Milton, Gilberto Gil, Tonhino Horta, Hermeto Pascoal, Villa Lobos, Jobim......
    1. nogueira
Wow, you really know the good music from Brazil.
  16. nogueira
I'm not being rude but you Americans have a totally wrong image of Brazil. About Obama, he has already said that some of the problems he has been is related with racism. Even here, in BC we can find some absurd comments about your president. USA has fascist groups and part of its population are not happy having a black as their leader. Americans are not arrogant. They are lazy. Most of your people just think they don't have to know the reality in other countries because USA runs the world. Thanks God USA is facing now a actual decadence.
    1. FreakSmack
I did not say Americans were Arrogant, I said I was an Arrogant American. I do not speak for all Americans, and yes we have fascist groups that don't want to have a black man as their President, but that is not the majority. There are a whole lot of people in this country who don't like Obama because of his politics. I am not a lazy American, though you are right there are plenty. I don't care to know the reality of other countries because it is none of my business. I do not stare in my neighbors houses because I think I should know what is going on, or have an obligation to care, it's none of my business, they can take care of their own problems.

Now I said for what I had come to understand about Brazil was the crime. That information was given to me by my friend who is a Brazilian, but why take her word for it. This is an excerpt from The U.S. Department of State website travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_1072.html on International Travel Information to Brazil.

Crime throughout Brazil has reached very high levels. The Brazilian police and the Brazilian press report that the rate of crime continues to rise, especially in the major urban centers – though it is also spreading in rural areas. Brazil’s murder rate is more than four times higher than that of the U.S. Rates for other crimes are similarly high. The majority of crimes are not solved. There were rapes reported by American citizens in 2008.

Street crime remains a problem for visitors and local residents alike, especially in the evenings and late at night. Foreign tourists are often targets of crime and Americans are not exempt. This targeting occurs in all tourist areas but is especially problematic in Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador and Recife.

Caution is advised with regard to nighttime travel through more rural areas and satellite cities due to reported incidents of roadside robberies that randomly target passing vehicles. Robbery and “quicknapping” outside of banks and ATM machines are common. In a “quicknapping,” criminals abduct victims for a short time in order to receive a quick payoff from the family, business or the victim’s ATM card. Some victims have been beaten and/or raped.

In Rio de Janeiro, crime continues to plague the major tourist areas (see separate section on Rio de Janeiro).

At airports, hotel lobbies, bus stations and other public places, incidents of pick pocketing, theft of hand carried luggage, and laptop computers are common. Travelers should "dress down" when outside and avoid carrying valuables or wearing jewelry or expensive watches. Care should be taken at and around banks and internationally connected automatic teller machines that take U.S. credit or debit cards. Very poor neighborhoods known as "favelas" are found throughout Brazil. These areas are sites of uncontrolled criminal activity and are often not patrolled by police. U.S. citizens are advised to avoid these unsafe areas. Carjacking is on the increase in Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Recife and other cities.

Now I am sure there are very nice places in Brazil, I'd say the majority, much like the majority of Americans do not belong to fascist groups. I hope all Brazillians don't assume the majority of Americans are lazy fascists like you did.
  17. nogueira
trailofpen, you are so rude that I decided to ignore your comment. But I must say have been many times to USA and the racism there is worse than Brazil. It seems you don't have anything to do and you are here to liberate your angry.

I just don't know how I'm going to sleep at night knowing I am the reason europeans hate America. Perhaps I do have the wrong impression of Brazil, I'm sure there are many Bazilian elitists who fly above the Favellas of São Paulo, and therefore to them they and their crime do not exist. Perhaps there is an agenda of trying to hide it, to pretend it doesn't exist so tourists feel a sense of comfort. idol.union.edu/micklasc/Brazil/Slums%20and%20Riches.htm The proof is in the pudding. I notice you always claim europeans hate Americans and not Brazillians hate Americans. Is this because you still want us Americans to come to your country and spend our money? Since we are uneducated perhaps we will believe it is the continent of Europe who hates America and not you.
  22. meamwye
Amazon Rainforest. That's the image I get when I read/hear 'Brazil'. On my recent visit to a butterfly park in Malaysia, I saw some of the most amazingly beautiful butterflies from South America!
    1. nogueira
Thank you. Amazon is really beautiful.

    Brazil = football
    1. nogueira
Yes, but our football is not good as it used to be because Brazil exports many football players and it's a problem.
