I'm taking my son for a one day adventure in NYC. I'd like to check out the Statue of Liberty, since he's been learning about it-but I hear the lines are crazy. And then I thought, Empire State building would be cool?
Any ideas?

Well yes but!
If you go the top of the Rockerfella building then you get to see New York and you do it in style.
I went 4 weeks ago, I got in for free because of my accent lol, however the lift that takes you up is pure entertainment and the views of new york at night are spectacular, you get to see the Empire State building from there. -
I would go down to ground zero. I have been down there several times since the tragedy occurred. But it's a beautiful place now and I always pay my respect there (I lost 2 friends on 9/11).
I would also go to the MoMA--it's amazing. And perhaps the Guggenheim if there was time.
You can also go down to SoHo and take in so many great art galleries.
And at night, I'd have to take in a musical on Broadway. -
The lines are crazy at the Empire State building too. Rather than go to the Statue of Liberty, try the circle boat tour. It's 3 hours long, cheap and you get to see NYC from the water. It goes around the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, under all the famous bridges.
Advantages: you skip waiting in line for hours with a restless child. You get a fun boat ride. Then instead of spending your day waiting, you are free to see other New York landmarks like Central Park or hit a fun museum.
Disadvantages: You don't get to actually go inside the Statue of Liberty, but from what I have heard, it's better seen from outside anyway.
