some people measure gift by its utility.

some measure it by its cost.

some measure it by its beauty.

some measure it by the love behind it.

what is your yardstick? I go by the last one. love is the only yardstick.

A true gift is someone's company. That someone would take the time to spend with me is my yardstick.

do i agree with you? two hundred percent.

hey, right now after putting the question electricity went off, and when it returned i was escorted to this page without asking for password etc, does this happens to you too?

i did not liked it. it happens with some other sites too, a thing i really dont like.

I think Blogcatalog keeps you logged in, even if you go away for a while or turn off the computer or whatever. I've found that I have to physically click on the logout button to log out. It can be a little disconcerting, but there you go.

there is another bad thing, if you are in a cyber cafe, electricity goes off the next person who sits in your machine gets an access to your account.

i have seen the same thing in google too, that is why i dont use it from cafes.

if you always press log out and clear your history and cookies etc. then it should be fine.

      dear siuli,
i always do it, but this time electricity went off. and when i returned, i was smoothly escorted to the place where i was before the power went off

I think the true gift is in the intention behind it. Even if the gift is totally mismatched, if the person who gave it to you really thought you would love it, that's what counts. ...within reason...if they get you something completely wrong for you it's a bit of an indication that they really don't know you at all...

My favourite presents were last year for my birthday...one friend got me a box that she had filled with vegan food, and another baked me a (really unpleasant) vegan birthday cake, and another got me a giant mushroom! It was the thought and the love that had gone in to them mattered.

      dear siuli,

Depends on who the gift is given to. People have different appreciation of the things they recieve.
A child will love toys again it depends on how young they are.
Older people settle for just the mere remembrance of a special day not on the gift they are presented.

For me it depends on who the gift came from. But probobly for now I'd like to have round trip tickets to Italy for two.

I definitely feel it's the thought that counts.

Is the gift more about the recipient, or the giver? If the giving is really only about the giver, then it loses the true spirit of giving.

Something that has meaning, almost to the point that it's the intent of the gift that counts, rather than what is given. One of the best gifts I ever received was a bottle of ketchup as a moving-in present.

.. because all i asked from her was friendship

the best gift that i got was given by a little girl who worked for me, anita, it was a showpiece. i dont think i will ever lose it.

I agree with everyone who says it is the thought behind the gift that counts. What's inside the box is unimportant--it's the love and thought that matters.

I don't ever feel 'pressured' into giving gifts. As I go through life, I try to listen to what my loved ones say and then when I come across something that reminds me of something they told me about, I gift them with that. Often, it blows people away because I will remember a story they told me from literally years before and all of a sudden "poof!" there is a gift that shows I was listening to that story.

Those are my favorite types of gifts as well.
    1. writings
that shows you are a very, very caring person. you should be a gift to people who know you.

a true gift, a 1000 shopping spree at a sex store, or beading store. Or a kind and successful web designer building me a site for free. But most importantly, D. is my true gift for giving me happiness, joy, security and kids.
    1. trailofpen
I don't think theres anything at a sex shop that you couldn't make with a few strips of leather or a power drill.

Whatever has no strings attached to it. What is given without any expectations of getting anything in return is a true gift.

I measure it by whether it's free or not. If it isn't free, it's not a gift.

A true gift is one that either really touches you or was so heartfelt that the merely feeling behind it touches you.

definitely should be over $200 and brand name

    ...kidding

something with meaning would definitely fit the mold. personally i love things which would be functional or something with sentimental value and thoughtful.

check out some cool home decor and gifts we offer at www.vidafine.com
