We all have some jerk or anonymous commenters visiting our site and leaving comments, offensive, disgusting and some insulting.
What are the blogging manners that may help bloggers out there?

I don't usually delete comments good or bad as long as it relates with the post. Some comments without open ID email or genuine URL are likely to get delete if their comments are that bad.
Some comments to attract attention. But honestly I dont have time to check who comment it or the url they gave. I can't response to all question and email too.
But this blog of mine is new so i got few till now.
What do you think about this comments "Nice Blog"... Their URLs -
I delete comments that are just designed to link-drop. I think by doing that, it doesn't give additional commentators ideas that, "Hey, this gets through so I'll try it, too."
That said, most commentators are terrific-- funny, getting into the spirit of the posts.
I had one commentator early on take a name-calling pot-shot at another in my comments, and while I let the comment stand, I did respectfully explain, "Hey, this person is a friend of mine and also, this is a humor blog, so let's try to not take it all so seriously."
That was the last that's been an issue.
I think the blogger can help set the atmosphere for what is and isn't going to fly in the comments section. -
Yea, thanks to all who posted their ideas and opinions. What about manners such as leaving URL or link in the comment, is it bad or not right?
-
Leaving a link or URL is okay only if the link is relevant to the comment. Something like "That's an interesting thought. I posted about the same topic in my blog at (URL) and had a different viewpoint" is okay. If in doubt, delete. You might lose one reader, you might not lose any, but if you allow offensive comments to continue, you'll lose many more.

hey i didn't mean its you, i don't care what you said to a thread, I am not annoyed either by your comment in my other thread because people are entitled to their opinion
-
I guess you can activate your comment moderation. That way, you get to filter out negativity from spreading within your blog. Akismet is great too. To me, annoying comments aren't as annoying as copycats. Copycatting is disrespectful and harder to stop than mere comments. By the way, your blog is great

I have comment moderation turned on. Even with that I haven't had any problems with rude comments.
I suggest it comes down to the tone a blogger wants on her/his site. The comments that appear will affect the comments others leave. If the blog author allows very rude comments to remain, others will consider that the norm. If there aren't any rude comments at all, that is the norm. -
quoting thriftshopromantic from another thread:
"Technically blogs are designed to be freedom of expression for the blogger. The ability to comment can be an enhancement, certainly, but it really doesn’t mean Joe Q Unaccountable has a right to say any insulting thing that comes off the top of his head, and the blogger should just shrug and publish it because, 'hey, it’s freedom of speech.'"
It’s the blogger’s forum, so honestly, shouldn’t it be the blogger’s choice of how to handle it? Every piece of content that appears on a blog site becomes a part of the makeup and the “brand” of that blog. I think it’s important for bloggers to look at it in terms of how the comment affects the brand.

Sadly, there are nut cases and trolls in the blogosphere and IMHO the best way to deal with them is to shun them. Once you have set up your blog and published a couple of dozen posts it’s a good time to develop your own comment policy. Sooner or later you will get a negative comment and it’s best to have a comment policy in place to deal with it. I leave dissenting opinions because I think they are important. I delete comments that are direct attacks or serve no purpose. I also turned on the comment moderation feature. That did wonders to stop the person who was flaming my blog. However, I give trolls the full treatment.
I have a free hosted wordpress blog so when I get a comment from a troll I feed it to the spam filter Akismet. I also have self-hosted wordpress.org installs too. They have Defensio spam filters. So I feed the troll's IP, blog url and email address to both Akismet and Defensio so the troll goes on both blacklists.
There are so many bloggers using these two spam filters that it has a negative effect on the troll's comments because no matter where he leaves them on a wordpress blog that's using either Akismet or Defensio they will filter his comments out as "spam". -
TT is always so wise... dang it!
I usually just delete the really bad comments. My policy is it is my blog and I can do what I want

thatnks for the wonderful comments. I really appreciate especially the helpful tips.
Some visitors are jealous with your site traffic or maybe your ideas, some are pissed off, some felt you offended them indirectly.
Blogging manners means feeling in the same shoes with the blogger. I have made thousands of comments everywhere, and not one degrading or offensive. And I never use anonymous name...its cowardice to speak your mind and hide with a familiar jerk, anony.-
I'm glad you found my tips to be helpful. I believe it's really worthwhile to take the time to develop a comment policy and post it. Mine is on this Page onecoolsite.wordpress.com/about/

I do not accept anonymous comments. I also moderate all comments. Lastly, the username of those who comment on my blog has a do-follow link to their blog. I check out all first time commenter's blogs to be sure about who I am dealing with.

I am big on civility. You can disagree all you want on my blog, but if you do it rudely, your comment won't be published. My blog--my rules.
I like it when people leave a link to their blogs with their comments, but I don't fall for the spam that is introduced with "Nice blog entry. Maybe you'd like to see my site at..." Nope...this person never read the blog or s/he'd say something about the content. But those who have actually read and commented upon an entry, I like to receive their URLs so I may reciprocate. A few of those commenters have become regular reads for me.
