What is going on with Blogger?

Topics: blogger, html
For nearly five years I have written my blog (sweetvioletsa.blogspot.com/ ) in Word, then copied and pasted it to the Blogger text window.
When I did that today, it would not publish my post.
Instead, I got this message: Your HTML cannot be accepted: Tag is not allowed: < meta equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8">
WTF?
So I wrote a little post (no copy and paste) about it and it published fine, but when I went back to add the error message to the post, it wouldn't accept the change and gave me the same error.
What is going on here and how do I fix it??

Hi, Violet-- You'll want to paste your content first into a simple text editor and make the text be "plain text" before pasting it into Blogger.
That works well for me. I've never had good luck pasting it right from Word into blogger. I hope this helps!-
Use NotePad. WordPad will just insert the same crap as Word does, but NotePad is a plain-text program that comes with Windows and doesn't mess around with formatting or curly quotes or any of that stuff - what you type is what you get. It's hard (for me) to compose in it because you only get a line break when you insert one, but it's fantastic for cleaning up the garbage that Word adds.

I've not had this problem but keep getting errors when attempting to play around with the html.
I write all my posts on notepad first, in raw html. -
Every now and again blogger gets a sick up it's rear end and won't accept your HTML or command or download etc...
If it keeps happening, I'd go to the blogger help forum or e mail them. But it was more likely than not a glitch.
By the way - good to see you SV : )-
Some boys and girls are gone and others appear to be on vacation. No divisive and vain fan club or popularity threads, no comments dripping with insinuations and innuendo, and no drama are expected, nor will they be tolerated. Good clean fun threads and blogging threads are expected from here on out - yay!

RESOLVED!!
We had a robbery Valentine's evening (see my blog for details: sweetvioletsa.blogspot.com/) and my laptop was one of the casualties. I am using one of Hubby's old laptops, which has Firefox for the main browser...I hate Firefox, but since I'll be getting another laptop when the insurance settles, I figured I'd tough it out rather than fiddle around with browsers.
Well, that is the only thing different...so I fired up IE7, launched the blog, copied and pasted the Word doc, and, voila! Published!
One more reason to hate Firefox...-
You will love firefox. I have been using Opera, Safari, Chrome. I never use IE and i vote for Firefox. I dont know why you hate it. A majority of the net users use Firefox. I track my visitors in statcounter.com and my finding is that a majority of them use Firefox. Even in analytics i have found that a majority of my visitors use Firefox. Thanks

I'm guessing that what has happened is that Blogger staff have upgraded the blogging software. Has anyone actually contact Blogger staff?

I have been getting this error for the last three months or so but i have no problem in publishing. I think blogger is yet to be integrated with the xml features of the MS Word 2007. Earlier i was using Word 2003 and everything was fine. Now i am trying to post from Scribefire. It is a very good addon of firefox. I am exploring various options of the add on. Today i posted my first blog post from scribefire and it is working fine. But i am yet to be conversant with various options of the add on. Let's see when bloggers update and integrate with the feature of the Ms word 2007.
thanks-
I'm using Word 2003. As soon as I opened my blog in IE7, the copy and paste went smoothly, as usual.
Why do I hate Firefox? It is klugy...it takes three actions to accomplish what takes only one in IE. It regularly locked up my last computer. It is too complicated and not sufficiently intuitive. And now, it doesn't work with Blogger properly.
My husband says "give it a chance." I've been using it since Valentine's Day. I still don't like it and now the requirement to click all over the page half a dozen times in order to open and view a site is just getting downright irritating!!

it might be worth taking a look at some free HTML tutorials. I know you said you don't do html but neither did I until I started my website and found this www.w3schools.com/html/default.asp
It's just that I remember saying in the nineties that I'd never get a mobile phone and now I can't go anywhere without it; you have to move with the times! -
