Happiness is not having stuff. It's not originating from someone outside ourselves. We generate our own happiness. How do you guys do it? What is your definition of happiness?

"The wise man does nothing; the fool ties himself up." Happiness is not tying yourself up.

Was it the Beatles that sang, "Happiness is a warm gun?"

Happiness is one of the themes I blog on in this time ~ this space. Everybody's definition is different. Whether it is staying healthy, ivercoming a challenge, mastering an activity, finding a partner -- happiness is a state of mind we create between our ears. No other person can gift us with happiness or take it away from us. We are responsible for our own happiness, and we are capable of creating it regardless of the circumstances we may be in.

"I define happiness as being at peace with oneself and the world. It happens when your mind (intent), body (action) and spirit vibrate in unison. A rare spontaneous occurrence when you leave it to chance but can happen all of the time if you consciously create it." -- Ali Said Husain, India

When you have no one to blame and nothing to complain about, this is what happiness is.

The way to happiness is filled with many moral choices. This means we are offered many chances to choose how we will act and live our life.

Happiness is being able to stay the course, not blame anyone outside ourselves, in spite of obstacles on the way to our goals. Being able to be compassionate and see the potential in all around us and disseminate hope.

I think happiness is finding in good moments we have. I don't believe one can be happy all the time. The first step is trying to know ourselves better and it's not an easy task. I'm still working on that and therapy helps a lot. For example, I'm happy now typing with my dog on my lap. We can't have Paris or Venice everyday. Happiness means simple things. I have to learn those things since I found out I have fibromyalgia. Pain teachs a lot.

Very good point. We cannot be happy all the time and getting to know oneself is a long and arduous task.

For me happiness is reading, writing, smiling, laughing, and helping people.

I came in to see if I can lamblast this post if possible ;-), but found I pretty much agree with him.. Happiness comes from inside you.

If circumstances had their way, you would never be happy. Just be still and smug within yourself. Enjoy the truth within. And dwell in truth in your every action and word. There will be little left to make you unhappy

Happiness is what you make it

Happiness is ultimately your choice. Our circumstances do not define us, our attitude and responses to our circustances tell the story. We are the narrator to our life. I love the serenity prayer, to accept what we cannot change, have the courage to change the things we can and the wisdom to know the difference.

We can choose the people we let into our lives and we own the choices we make. These choices define if we have happiness in our life.

We can experience extraordinary stressful circumstances and forge through with bravery and come through with wisdom and growth. Happiness means we make the choice to grow everyday. Happiness can't be bought, worn or consumed, it is a choice.
